Nucky McPharson Interview

Fighter profile of Nucky McPharson by Callum McGregor

What: Joining us today is Nucky McPharson, one of the 20 men who will fight at Highland Challengers 2.

Before we start, you may not be aware but Highland Games had an early competitor named Eddie Kilpatrick, an Irishman who liked to fight and have a drink. You're coming to us from his homeland and with a nickname like "The Bartender", should we expect a similar personality?

McPharson: Nah man... You can search the whole world and you'll never find anyone like me! Yes, I am an Irishman who has a love for good ale and a good fight, but I'll have you know I am cocky, wild and always hungry for a fight! I knew Eddie quite well and he was a good boy who stayed in the gym, I on the other hand learnt from the hundreds of bar fights I've been in. See, I got my nickname "The Bartender" because I actually was one... until I ended up knocking more people out than actually serving beer. I always knew I was a fighter and that fighting was in my blood!

What: So I'm going to assume that your former employer was none too happy about your interactions with the customers then?

McPharson: Employer? Oh, you mean 'that' guy? I finished him off too. Thing was he wanted to sack me, so I booked him a bed at Intensive Care... Funny, he and I never got along well, but he always saw me as a 'responsible' man... whenever anything went wrong, I was 'responsible'...

What: So when Nucky McPharson enters the cage on Sunday night, what should the fans look out for?

McPharson: When I walk into the cage and looked Cale Downes in the eyes, I want the fans to expect either a knockout or a submission victory hopefully in my favor. See, I've had many amateur bouts before and as my records show, I've never failed to please a crowd. I will fight as hard as I can, with as much heart as I can. I want Cale's fans to start chanting

The judges were busy, 7 out of 10 fights needing their input which pushed the action to 2+ hours. In all it wasn’t May’s best card, but it also wasn’t the worst, hitting #9 on UNFC’s top 10 ratings list.

Featherweights made up half the event, with 10 145 lbs fighters on show. Overall it was a solid night of UNFC fights to end May and setup a strong run in June for one of Japan’s premier fighting promotions.

Highland Games 79 Review

Event Review: Highland Games 79
Highland Games
2015-05-29, London, Hard Knocks - London
Attendance:2,430, Event Rating:248
Author:Callum McGregor

What a mixed bag we got at Highland Games 79. We had fighters scoring upsets, controversial decisions, bad gameplans and comebacks all throughout. Some fights ended in knockout, one in submission and plenty of judges got involved in the action also. Let’s take a look.

Middleweight
Ruslan Volkov (2-2) def. Wanderson Dos Pintos (3-0) by KO (Punch) at 2:47 of Round 3
With Dos Pintos being a BJJ Purple Belt with three straight decisions, it was expected that he would win this fight as long as it went to the floor. This wasn’t the case. Surprisingly, it was Volkov who was more successful with taking the fight to the ground and was more active with ground strikes and submissions. The end came late in the first when a punch from Volkov sent Dos Pintos to the mat, which was the icing on the cake for the underdog.

Middleweight
Terakado Tessai (5-2) def. Lapu Gatmaitan (4-2) by KO (Knee) at 0:27 of Round 1
What a finish it was from Terakado Tessai. He was not only clinical and accurate with his strikes, but after rocking his opponent, Tessai landed a perfectly timed knee to score the knockout. After his disappointing debut, this was just the win he needed and it also earned him a $5000 bonus.

Heavyweight
Anderson Natanael (8-1) def. Bratt Narde

The MC is now announcing the 1st match. It’s Anthony Placencia (3-5-0) vs Aegor Rivers (0-0-0) in the featherweight division.

An inexperienced Rivers had cut Plancencia when the 1st bell rung  . What a good start. Then Rivers landed his jab and Plancencia responded with a nice takedown. Rivers was in t
