Highland Games 124 Preview

Event Preview: Highland Games 124
Highland Games
2015-11-03, London, Camden Conference Centre
Author:Callum McGregor

Lucas Silva Jr (5-2) Vs Walter Mattos (8-6) - Middleweight

Two guys struggling a bit at the bottom of the table. Lucas lost his debut last time out, while Mattos has a lot of experience in HG but hasn't won a fight at Middleweight. Neither man is expected to be cut if they lose, but really they will be very close to the chopping block if it happens.

Yoshi Twister (6-7) Vs Eduardo Sanchez (7-2) - Bantamweight

Twister fought in Choke and World Combat so he's obviously a guy we'd like to see do well. On a 3 fight losing streak however, this is probably his last chance to bag a win in Highland Games for the time being. Under new management, Sanchez is gonna have to break this 2 fight skid after going 2 straight in HG. He's expected to win this, but there's a chance he'll be released if he can't get past Twister.

KOTB Interview with Ezekiel Puchowski

Fighter profile of Ezekiel Puchowski by

Hey Ezekiel, thanks for joining us between sessions at A Hero’s Journey here in Rio. Your manager runs that gym, if I’m not mistaken. How’s everything going over there?

AH! My pal Dr. Jones, I'm doing well and blessed to be here in Rio! As far as the gym goes it’s going swell! Getting new guys all the time. I'm actually the assistant manager for the gym so getting paid to be involved with what I love is awesome.

You’ve avenged your only career loss in your last bout, does it feel good to get that off your shoulders? Are things cool between you two now?

Definitely, especially with the circumstances surrounding the fight, which I won't bring up. Also, while I have you, I'd like to address an issue people have brought up about the fight. It was 100% not fixed. My manager took Thiagus under his wing when it seemed like the whole MMA world

KOTB Interview with James La Grande

Fighter profile of James La Grande by

Hey James, thanks for finally sitting down with us. You’ve been very vocal since you signed with KOTB, are you happy to finally be stepping in the ring?

Yes, I really am. I tried to get fights with other 270k orgs and no one wanted to fight me but here at KOTB there are some great fighters and I am excited to test myself.

You’ve had a ton of success in other orgs, but have never been offered a title shot. Is it satisfying to finally compete for one in your first fight with us?

It really is satisfying. Honestly, I have been offered a title shot but no opponents in the division accepted to fight me, so that was a bummer. But, I am very excited to go the 5 rounds for the first time. I know my cardio level is where it needs to be.

Two weeks after setting a promotional high ‘event rating’ of 117.81 at KOTB 13, the King of the Beach promotion would go on to shatter it with a rating 142.90 at KOTB 15. Carried by an incredible main and co-main event pairing, KOTB 15 saw a packed crowd of Brazilian and non-Brazilian fans celebrating Dia dos Fiéis Defunto, which created an electric atmosphere throughout the night - something felt by the athletes in the cage and the fans outside of it.

GAMMA Gosspip #49

Global Association of MMA, Fight Organization, London
Company profile by Mentor Guru Corleone

GAMMA's epic rise to greatness continues, we are now ranked #1 in the game in total fighters ranked inside the top 1000 p4p with 79 (an increase of 7 since last month). Here are some of the other major news which took place over the past month.

Fernando Prado move to 145lbs proved successful

Fernardo moved down to his natural weight class after losing the title to Nyler and it proved to be very successful, beating 2 ex-145lbs champs Meat Beater and Timofey Boyko since moving down.

Boyko moving to 155lbs

Timofey has show an interest in moving up to 155lbs to end his career and challenge for one last title. He was very unhappy after what he called the "bullshit split decision" in his fight with Prado. Lets see how the 35y old ends his career in GAMMA.
Hall of Famer returns.

Renan holds firm

Things did not go according to plan for Renan in his super fight with Rocker last month, but he defended his title with a late KO of Jimmy Snuka. He will be defending his title against up and coming star Arthur Pinto, which is 14-0 at the moment.

3rd time lucky for Virgil

Virgil Keller was getting the feeling that a title will never come his way, after losing to Cuenca and Curry in 2 previous outings, losing both in decision fights. 3rd time against Hektor Troy he ended any doubt though with a TKO in the 3rd round. This is his 3rd title in his career after holding onto minor titles in CCF and SFC.

EVENT REVIEW

With many of Rehabs top fighters on the card, and several of the nights fights having title implications, RFC 4 – Heating Up produced Rehabs most successful event to date. Egos were bruised, statements were made and a clear picture of RFCs title challengers began to emerge. With the MMA community still raving about RFC 3, RFC 4 had a lot to live up to, and it didn’t fail.

Fight 1 - Diesel Armstrong Simon Simonsen – 185lb

Exactly as predicted, Diesel Armstrongs early pressure proved too much for Simon Simonsen who was flattened in just over a minute of the very first round. From the opening bell, Armstrong stood in front of Simonsen, flicking out his jab, waiting for an opening to land something big.

He didn’t have to wait long. Just on the minute mark, Armstrong caught Simonsen with a beautifully timed 1-1-2 combination which dropped him to the floor. Sensing a knockout, Armstrong waved him back to his feet. With his nose bloodied, ducking under a left jab, Simonsen ducked right into a vicious right uppercut from Armstrong which knocked him out before he hit the floor. An ecstatic Armstrong jumped onto the cage yelling “I’m Back, before going back to check Simonsen was OK. After being KO’d in his RFC debut, Armstrong got back on track in impressive fashion. Simonsen meanwhile moves onto 0-3-0 in his first three fights, losing all by (T)KO.
