Cage Wars 200th Show

Event Preview: CWFL 200
Cage Wars
2012-12-07, Los Angeles, LA Memorial Colossuseum
Author:Cliff Biff

Cage Wars brings to you a fantastic line-up of fights for it's celebratory 200th event. Held at the famous LA Memorial Colossuseum in Los Angeles which has a capacity of 93,607 it's sure to be a record breaking night and the biggest event in Cage Wars' already long and illustrious history.

There are 10 action packed fights to look forward to including three superbly matched title fights and some huge superfights to top the bill. Here's an in depth look at the card and in particular the main event and title fights.

An intriguing LW bout between Franky Finger (11-2) vs Kenny Floor Jan (18-5) is definitely a fight that could go either way between 2 very evenly matched opponents. Fingers has a slight edge in MT with Floor Jan having a marginal advantage in wrestling. The edge could be in durability and toughness though as Fingers has been finished in both his loses and Floor Jan is yet to be stopped in 23 fights. Prediction: Floor Jan by unanimous dec.

Another interesting bout is the HW fight between Kazaki Fujita (24-9) and Stuart Redman (31-21). This one looks pretty cut and dry, Redman has KO power as does Fujita. Redman however, has 17tko defeats to his name so to say he has a suspect chin would be an understatement. Redman could land a KO early but it looks unlikely. Prediction: Fujita by (T)KO rnd 2.

A WW tussle between Heimo Hulahula (26-12-1) and Pluto Palhares (10-1) comes next. Does MMA maths hold the key to the outcome of this fight? Palhares has a single loss in his relatively short MMA career to date, that came at the hands of none other than the mighty Kane Yamada, and that was by decision. Hulahula has also faced Yamada twice before, both fights resulted in (T)KO losses for Hulahula. Prediction: Palhares by unanimous decision.

The first of the nights title fights sees the vacant CW lightweight title up for grabs as Aoki Funkyama (19-6-0) takes on Justin Gimmick (25-8-1). 596 p4p takes on 385 p4p respectively. Aoki Funkyama is a durable fighter having never been stopped in a 25 fight career. He also has a black belt to go with his sensational wrestling. Should this fight go to the ground it would be playing into Funkyamas strength. Gimmick could prove a tough nut to crack on the floor though. He has a decent purple belt with the proud accolade of having never been subbed in 34 career fights. Another big factor in this fight could be the fact that these 2 warriors have fought before with Gimmick taking a decision win. Prediction: Funkyama to even the score with a submission win rnd 3.

Another title fight comes next with Tony Soprano (23-8-1) defending his LHW belt for the 2nd time against Percival Butcher (22-13-0). Soprano who holds a p4p ranking of 669 hopes his experience fighting a higher calibre of opponent can see him through this extremely tough match. Butcher who has a slight boxing, wrestling and bjj advantage holds a p4p ranking of 588 and is the current champ in Cage Wars feeder organisation Cage Wars Challengers. He comes into this fight on a 4 fight win streak and will be full of confidence. Hopefully he won't come in over confident as he does look to have the weaker chin of the two fighters. Prediction: Butcher to win via KO rnd 2 and claim the CW belt to sit alongside his CWC strap.

The third and final title fight of the night pits current 135lbs champ Frankie Pep (28-13-0) against arguable the greatest BW in the history of MMA Tycoon let alone Cage Wars, the legendary Clint Lomax. Lomax is a Cage Wars H.O.F fighter and former 135, 155 and current 145 Cage Wars Champion. As of late he's being flying around the globe from show to show fighting some of the toughest lighter weight fighters the game has to offer, often giving up a weight advantage in his quest to fight the top fighters in the game. Lomax has never been subbed and has an excellent all round mma game. So, Pep the champ definitely has his work cut out but being no slouch in his own right he'll surely be confident of walking away with a huge scalp and name to have on his resume and more importantly walk away retaining his coveted CW BW title. He's got a 5 fight win streak, and having never been (T)KO'd will be full of confidence. Prediction: Lomax to get back to winning ways and reclaim the 135lbs title by unanimous decision.

A heavy weight contender fight takes centre stage now as John Esposito (21-9-0) takes on another CW H.O.F fighter in Gaisafa Masoe (23-7-1). Esposito has huge KO power as his 20 wins by (T)KO and elite boxing suggests. He also likes to stand and bang and if he does lose he prefers to go out swinsing with 8/9 career loses coming by (T)KO. Masoe is a fighter cut from the same cloth. All his career fights have been with the CW organisation and he is the current SHW champ and former HW champ of the org. This one will almost certainly play out on the feet and end with a brutal KO. Question is who will land first? Prediction: Masoe to set up a possible rematch with Kuntz with a KO win rnd 1.

Another superfight occupies the Co-main event slot of this spectacular fight card. Matthieu Benoit (29-12-2) takes on CWs highest ranked fighter, 30 p4p Kane Yamada (27-6-0). This bout takes place in the SHW division although Benoit holds the VFC 205lbs belt and Yamada holds both CW 170 and 185 straps. Benoit will almost certainly be looking to get this fight to the mat and become the first person ever to stop Yamada. He will surely look to utilise his elite wrestling and bjj black belt to get a submission win. Yamada though will have other ideas having never been stopped in his entire 23 fight career. Yamada will most likely look to use his MT advantage and work Benoit over in the clinch. Prediction: Benoit to score a huge submission win in rnd 3 and send his stock through the roof.

And finally, the Main event of this extraordinary evening will see a huge superfight with enormous hype as CWs very own HW champ Rusty Kuntz (25-6) take on Alfie Norks (21-6). Norks has come over from Rio's top organisation NO Exit Fc to take an oppurtunity he simply couldn't refuse. The chance to take on 3x CW HW champ and current top 50 p4p fighter Kuntz. A win for Norks would catapult his hype and cement his reputation as one of the top HW fighters in the world. Both fighters are pretty well matched with each having slight advantages in different disciplines. Norks has a definite advantage in MT with Kuntz having small advantages in boxing and bjj. Norks has yet to be subbed so that small advantage in bjj may not be the deciding factor in the fight. I think this fight is won and lost on the feet. Whichever fighter can dictate the pace of the fight and where the fight is fought. If Norks can work his MT and clinch Kuntz has undoubtedly has the power to end the fight at anytime. Kuntz could look to keep his distance and try to outbox Norks on his way to a decision win. If he hurts Norks he should have no trouble finishing the fight as his 24 wins by (T)KO tells us. Prediction: Kuntz to win by (T)KO in rnd 4.
