BFT 164 Review
Middleweight - Jason "Red Eye" Craft and Lucas Rodriguez fought to a Unanimous Draw.
An interesting turn of events that unfolded here. In the first round, Craft EXPLODED with power. He was hell bent on keeping the fight at the distance and was successful at it. An onslaught of kicks came forth and made Rodrigues hurt with every one. Craft certainly deserved that round. The second round saw a change in pace, with Rodriguez geting a duo of takedowns. On the ground, Rodriguez wasn't terribly active, but he sure was able to keep himself from taking any more kicks. The final round saw more of the second round. Rodriguez was able to take things down to the ground once more and hold him there until the fight had finished. It would have been nice to see a little more of Rodriguez's ground game, but begger's can't be choosers I suppose. The judges gave the first round a 10:8, making the fight a unanimous draw! Rematch anyone?
Middleweight - "The Tiger" Brick Taylor Unanimous Decisioned Miau Subsi
This fight started with an excellent display of Muay Thai skills. Brick was able to get Subsi up on the cage and land elbows and knees at will. It was a great showing by Taylor in the first. The second round saw more clinch striking action. Taylor was going crazy with his strikes, even getting a nice cut with a strong elbow. Subsi knew that he was behind on the cards, and went for the finish. He dove in for the takedown and was able to bring things down. He was doing alright, until a sweep occurred and he ended up on bottom. He worked hard on submissions and was able to work his way back to the top. He tried a few more submissions before the round ended. Taylor was able to walk away with his head held high.
Heavyweight - Steve "The Tank" Tompkins KO'ed "Overeem" Jason Hannibal with punches at 1:52 of round 1.
The fight opened up and Hannibal was able to land a head kick that opened up a cut. Tompkins then took things to the ground. He was able to land a strike before Hanibal got back up to his feet. From there Tompkins rushed forward. Kicks, punches, combos! He was on a roll, when a great combination sent Hannibal to the canvas. Nice work.
Co-Main - Heavyweight - "Broomstick" Dingo Monster KO'd "Demolition Man" Alistair Overeem with a punch at 12 seconds of round 2.
The fight opened up and was a bloody mess. Monster cut Overeem with an overhand right. The fight moved to the clinch, and an elbow cut open Monster. The fight breifly went to the floor, before back up to the clinch where another elbow opened up Monster's cut. But then Monster landed a knee that opened Overeem's cut more! Overeem took a head kick that sent him flying, with his cut opening up even more, but he refuses to give up and stand's back up. He made it to the end of that round, but on shaky legs. Monster landed some great combinations making sure Overeem had no time to recover at the beginning of the second, until a right hand ends things for Overeem. What a fight!
Main Event - Welterweight - "The Kracken" Jermaine Choake Knocked out Jake Shields with a cut at 3:55 in round 2.
The battle of former champs. Choake clinched things up, cut open shields, then brought things down to the ground. There shields was looking for submissions, but it was to no avail. Choake was able to use his wrestling to stay on top and land some ground and pound. The second round saw more of the same ground and pound from the first. A few more bad strikes opened up Shield's cut too much and the doctors had to stop things before it got out of control. Shields tried hard, but it wasn't enough. Choake did a great job.
