HERO Warfare 9 Preview

Event Preview: HERO Warfare 9
HERO FC
2013-02-20, Helsinki, Kamppi Arena
Author:Bel Ciganin

What’s up? I know you’re all waiting for the next HERO FC event – HERO Warfare 9. To be honest, I’m loosing sleep because of this fight card. There will be tons of great action and we will see the greatest fighter that competed in the HERO cage, Aleksi Vihtala get back to work against a very promising new comer – Mitsuomi Sakata. This is a fine headline for a card filled with some of the best fighters in the business. For the delight of those, lucky enough to have a seat in the Kamppi Arena, they will see the return of the Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao.

Prelims

Lewis “Lights Out” Lee (1-1-0) v “The Demon Child” Natalie Renee (3-3-0)

Lightweight

Lee and Renee are both really dynamic strikers who, I’m sure we will hear a lot from in the future. Don’t blink on this one, because this will most likely end up with someone laid out unconscious on the mat.

Greg “Ollie” Oliver (2-1-0) v “The Prodigy” Thiraphon Jr Phuttaraksa (6-10-0)

Bantamweight

“The Prodigy” and Oliver have purple belts in BJJ and are really confident in their grappling abilities. Greg is young and hungry, while Thiraphon is the more experienced of the two. Let’s see what would play out to be more important.

“Kruel” Kale Kummola (4-0-0) v Zander “Fury” Murie (0-1-0)

Lightweight

Kale Kummola will soon make it to the main card if he continues to string wins, but he has to get past Zander Murie, who is really motivated to get his first pro win and show what he is really capable of.

Artie Lange (7-6-0) v Brian “Scrawny” Tombo (2-5-0)

Bantamweight

Lange is a lot more experienced then his opponent and has been in a lot of wars throughout his career. His opponent tonight, Brian Tombo, can be a threat to anyone who decides to stand with him, because he possesses some solid boxing skills, but Lange is a confident grappler, who knows how to take a guy down and tap him out.

“bk” Bk bk (8-2-0) v Manny Pacquiao (10-3-0)

Bantamweight

The bantamweight division has evolved a lot since Pacquiao was in charge, so he might be surprised how good the new guys are. Bk bk is undefeated in his last 6 and he is ranked higher in BJJ than Pacquiao with 1 belt level, so the Hall of Famer won’t be having a fun welcoming for sure.

Main Card

Vasara Hai (8-3-0) v “Slam Man” Abdul Mohammed (6-1-1)

Lightweight

Vasra Hai has picked up a lot of momentum after his TKO stoppage just 4 seconds before the final bell against Jorge Grugel, but ”Slam Man” is very good in breaking his opponents’ will and his wrestling will definitely come in handy. Hai has a very good submission offence, so if Mohammed decides to go to the ground with him, he should be extra careful.

Jyrki Jyytti (8-3-0) v Guy “Skull Pirate” McKain (3-1-0)

Heavyweight

Guy McKain had a really tough debut in HERO FC, in which he proved he can hang with the division’s best despite losing in the second round. He is taking on another promising new comer Jyrki Jyytti, who is very well rounded and has never been the distance.

Alan Fei Hong (8-4-0) v Pyry Perkele (8-3-0)

Heavyweight

Pyry Perkele is really setting the heavyweight division on fire winning 6 of his last 7 fights. His next opponent, Alan Fei Hong, is a test that will show us where he is at. Hong, a former champion, has won his last two outings as well and will look to use Pyry’s hype in order to raise his stock with a dominant victory tonight.

Jango Fett (8-1-0) v Georgi “Sasha Belov” Todorov (10-4-0)

Lightweight. Co main event

Jango Fett and Georgi Todorov have very similar styles and skill sets. Many people think this fight will be a symbolic passing of the torch, as the veteran Todorov will make way for the next generation and will be victimized by Fett’s athleticism. I think that Georgi is not ready to leave the spotlight just yey and he will do everything in his power to show the youngster that he has a lot more to learn, before he can mess with him. The winner of this fight might be next in line for a shot at the title so that will be an extra motivation for the two.

Aleksi “Kaarlon Toinen Veli” Vihtala (13-0-0) v Mitsuomi Sakata (4-0-0)

Light heavyweight. Title fight. Main event.

Aleksi Vihtala has cleared the division a long time ago… in fact, he did it twice, so it was inevitable that there will be some new comers that will come to the org in order to challenge the Hall of Famer. Mitsuomi Sakata is relatively unknown to the fight fans in Helsinki, but he is one tough S.O.B. He is a sensational striker, who has never tasted defeat and has finished all of his opponents in about 5 minutes in total. I think that he would’ve done better if he took one fight before going for the title, as he has 3 times less fights then Vihtala and the more time he gets, the better for him. That said, Aleksi can’t allow himself to look past Sakata as he is capable to give him a really tough time in the cage and who knows, he might be able to shock the world.
