HMMA 68 preview

Event Preview: HMMA 68 Helgi v Jarkko
HEROIC
2013-03-10, London, Camden Conference Centre
Author:

Hello again everyone I am “Sunshine” Weston Markson, and unfortunately im joined by this tool to my left Rudy “The Box” Knife, we are here to discuss HMMA 68 which takes place this Sunday in London’s Camden conference center.  We expect near 7000 screaming fans to watch as some of HMMA’s best take to the cage to do battle.

Rudy:  Wow really? Ok then I understand your mad because my bro Kimura won! Screw you “Sunshine”.   HMMA 68 is a wonderful card it has fights that are being built up as title eliminator’s and it has the former LHW champion and HoF member Takeo Okamoto fighting.

MAIN EVENT

6th Bjorn Helgi (13-2) v  3rd Naru "Käsi" Jarkko (19-8)

Weston:  The main event of HMMA 68 is a Lightweight fight between two guys who are very close to a title shot, this is a title eliminator fight and I have been told by Wilson that the winner of this fight will most likely take on Frank Reynolds for the next opportunity at the championship, so a lot is on the line here!  Last time we saw Bjorn Helgi in the HMMA cage he was picking up a hard earned decision win in his HMMA debut.  His debut win skyrocketed him in the rankings and allowed him to step up and get a big fight against Naru Jarrko.  Jarkko had a rough start to his HMMA career dropping his first two fights, but the two men he lost too were not ordinary and the fights were very close the case could have been made for him winning those fights as well.  The first of his losses was too what was at the time the undefeated champion of 3 weight classes, the second loss came to the first and only man to ever beat that champion.  Now with three straight wins and getting his career back on track he looks to prove he is one of the elite fighters in this division.

Rudy:  Well Weston this is going to be a great fight I don’t see it going to decision both of these guys are finishers and both of them have well rounded skills, but they both also have a primary fighting style.  This is a classic matchup between striker and grappler.  Jarkko being the elite wrestler and BJJ fighter who will look to ground the world class boxer and muy thai striker Helgi at all costs.  If Helgi can keep this fight standing he has great power to go along with the skill and will most likely be able to finish Jarkko standing….but the same can be said for Jarkko on the ground.   So Who takes it?

Prediction:  It depends on who implements their gameplan the best, I think Jarkko will score a late TKO victory on the ground.

CO-MAIN EVENT

5th “The Great” Nate Barnes (23-12) v 7th  Mike Hunt (13-11)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN event of the night brings a Light-Heavyweight fight between top contender Nate Barnes and Mike Hunt the former  O.R.G multi time champion making his HMMA debut.   Barnes has been campaigning for a title shot  ever since he beat Billy Skank in his first win under HMMA, now at 4-1 in HMMA and riding a 4 fight win streak its been made official If Nate Barnes wins this fight he will get the next shot at the championship, this ought to have Barnes licking his chops salivating at the opportunity to hold such a prestigious title around his waist, but will it cause him to overlook Mike Hunt? Hunt is no joke and should not be looked past by Barnes, Hunt is a former champion in his own right and has a very good resume beating some of the best the fight game has to offer.   I know he is ready to come into the division and make a huge splash right away, possibly stealing a title shot for himself.

Rudy:  With the announcement that the winner gets a title shot the tension leading up to this fight has escalated, I can not wait to see who comes out on top here and who the next challenger will be.   By now everyone should know Nate Barnes finishes fights and he does it in unequivocal fashion by KOing his opposition.  20 out of his 23 wins have been by (T)KO and Sunday if Mike Hunt stands with him he could become number 21.  Hunt is no stranger to (t)KO finishes himself having 9 of his 13 wins by (t)KO, however Hunt does it in a different way, he is an elite wrestler who looks to put fighters on their back tire them out and finish them with vicious GNP.  This fight is another classic battle between striker and grappler and whoever wins will be the one who keeps the fight in their world the longest.

Prediction:  You ready?  Ok I think Hunt will take the first two rounds of this fight with wrestling and GNP, but Barnes will storm out in the third round swinging for the fences looking for a finish and I think he will get it.  Barnes round 3 TKO

MAIN CARD

3rd "The Golden Saint" Takeo Okamoto (11-1) v 9th   Kingston Bartholemeaux (20-10)

Weston:  The last fight on the main card is one of the biggest fights in a long time, Takeo Okamoto the former long time light-heavyweight champion takes on Kingston Bartholemeaux.   This fight is very important for so many reasons, one The HoF Okamoto recently had his first career loss and I know he is looking to rebound with a huge win and get his career back on track.  Another reason this could be Okamoto’s last appearance inside the HMMA cage for a while although uncertain Okamoto could be taking some time away from the HMMA cage after this fight so all of his fans better come out in full and watch this warrior as it could be the last time for a while.   Another  reason this is a great fight, Kingston has been gaining steam again, and a win over Okamoto could push him to the front of the division and in line for a title shot with another couple wins.  Bartholemeaux has won two straight fights going into this fight, but Okamoto is the toughest fighter he has yet to face.  If he can pull this win off against the former champion his stock will skyrocket!

Rudy:  This is my pick for FOTN 31 wins between these two men and only 6 have been by decision, not only that but both men have shown an propensity for knockouts, and they have even been able to submit their opponents as both men have one submission win a piece.  This fight is so even you could toss a coin and pick a winner and be right.  I can imagine either guy having their hand raised at the end of the night.  This fight will not result in a decision, im willing to bet everything I own on that.  At the end of the night either Bartholemeaux will get the biggest win of his career, or Okamoto will re find his mojo and start what could be another long win streak.

Prediction:  I think Okamoto gets his mojo back.
