Still a Champion. Q&A with Tony Brown

Fighter profile of Tony Brown by

Q:How’s your training going? Heard you have been training at Hilo Training center

Tony: Yeah, I changed my gym, because I wanted to train my secondary skills in gym where the classes are not packed full.
Currently I´m working on my takedowns and my wrestling, so I can get the fight to the ground. I have also started lifting more
Weights after I got laughed at when I went to the beach. Those girls laughing at me, are still hounding in my dreams.

I would like to train in a private gym, so I could get just me and 1-3 other guys per a coach in one session.
Since I'm the Champion, money isn't a problem.

Q: How about your last fight against Stefan Pruvhe ? You finished him pretty quickly.

Tony: Yeah, I think he tried to ground and pound me, which has been working for him previosly. I didn't mind the takedown,
I didn't even bother to defend it, since my manager told me to let him take me down. After we were on the ground it was all over.
I went for some halfhearted subs to get him make a mistake and it worked. He tried to kimura me, but that's just nonsense. I locked up a triangle
and I knew it was over. He tried to defend, so I pulled the head to get the tap. End of story.

Q: You've got a big fight coming up this weekend against Scott "Scotty-B" Banks (185891), how do you see this fight going?

Tony: Well, he's a standup-type of fighter who likes to knock you out and I like to go with submissions, so it'll be interesting.
He can knock me out, if I can't wrestle him to the ground. If we end up on the ground, well he's a white belt with wrestling as good as mine,
but I have been really working on my submissions.

Q:What's your favorite submission?

Tony: Arm triangle, although I haven't hit it in my fights. I really like to set it up from the mount and it's a great technique
since you don't have to give up the position. I have choked guys cold from the mount, you don't have to always move to side control to get the tap.
I first try it from the mount and if it's not working, I move to side control. Sometimes guys manage to answer the telephone and get their hand in between.
If that happens, I move to knee-on-belly and turn it to half-neckcrank / half-choke.

Q: Who would you say is P4P the best fighter in MMA?

Tony: Man, that’s hard to answer. There are so many right now...you have Georges, and Anderson…and Jones
There’s just too many to pick one.

Q: Last question, If they made a movie about your life what would the title be, and who would play Tony Brown?

Tony: Damm, I've never really thought of that before. No idea, Tom Hanks ? Hahahaha.
