Inside The UPF: Hank Patterson

Fighter profile of Hank Patterson by Dale Saw

Welcome to the second episode of Inside The UPF. As always, I am your host Fred Meyer. Today I have on the show, a UPF new comer. He is the former welterweight champion of Team Thomas Fight Club in New York. Ladies and gentlemen please put your hands together for the heavy handed Hank Patterson.

Freddy: Welcome to the show Mr. Patterson.   Hank: Thank you. Pleasure to be here. But, I gotta know; is this going to be on TV? Hi mom!   Freddy: You're welcome. And, yes this is on TV. See those camera men over there? We don't pay 'em for nothing. Ya know. Haha.    Hank: Cool, I always wanted to be on TV. But, my dad told me I wasn't smart enough.    Freddy: Who says you need brains to be on TV? Look at me. Haha. Anyways, why don't you tell us a little about your background. Like; why did you get into mma? What led you into cage fighting?   Hank: Well I was born and raised in Boston. When I was in 9th grade I got kicked out of school for fighting. And, the part of Boston I'm from you have to fight just to survive. So I discovered early that I'm pretty good at it. One day, by chance, Lynn Holder happened to witness one of my street fights and he talked to me about mma and ended up becoming my manager. And, the rest is history.    Freddy: I hear Boston can be a dangerous place. I've never actually been there myself. Now you say you were kicked out of school? Surely, you must have gone back at some point, no?   Hank: Well, actually I didn't. I was gonna get my j.e.d. But, Lynn told me I didn't need one and to spend my time training. And back then I thought he was a pretty smart guy.   Freddy: Back then? You're saying you no longer think he's a smart guy?   Hank: Exactly. As soon as he said he wasn't going to manage me anymore, I knew he was stupid.   Freddy: Well I'm sure if you win this tournament he'll feel pretty stupid. And now that I've mentioned it. I wanted to ask you about the welterweight championship tournament. You're scheduled to face dangerous maui thai fighter Declan McCready. Are you ready for this fight? What kind of preparing have you done for this fight?   Hank: Dangerous? Yeah right! I'm pretty sure I can beat this guy, what's his name? McCready? while doing a handstand. And perperation? Who needs preperation? I just do a couple hours training everyday and... Aww hell, I'm gonna tell you my seceret. I guess I can now that it's legal in Hawaii. The seceret to my success is to find the best weed I can and smoke a whole eighth just before the fight.    Freddy: Eh... You do realize that marijuana is NOT legal in Hawaii, right?    Hank: What? What are you talking about? It was legalized in the last election. Mike told me so. That's how he talked me into moving to Hawaii to sign with the UPF.   Freddy: Um.. Who's this Mike?   Hank: Michael Sanders, my new manager.   Freddy: Aww. I should have put two and two together. Anyway, we are running out of time. Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans before we go?   Hank: Um, I'd just like to let everybody know that after I win this tournament and wearing my new belt, I will have a special session at the Hilo Training Center where all my fans can come and visit with me... You know, shake hands, take pictures, sign autographs that sort of thing.   Freddy: That sounds great. Thank you for coming on the show. Ladies and gentlemen Hank Patterson. Next week on Inside The UPF we have bantamweight champion Hype Williams. So, don't forget to tune in. Until next time, I'm fred Meyer signing off.   Hank: Are you sure weeds not legal in Hawaii... There aren't any cops outside, are there?   Authers Fred Meyer: Dale Saw Hank Patterson: Michael Sanders
