London's Brawling

Editorial by Bricktop McKenzie

London’s Brawling

The eagle eyed amongst you will no doubt have notice that no matter how hard you searched there was no London’s Brawling in last week Tycoon Times. This was down to two things, Christmas and the release of The Old Republic. I know poor excuses both. Still I have ditched my family and my level 21 Bounty Hunter and I am back to update you on all the goings on in the MMA scene of the worlds greatest city.

And what goings on there have been. Last time out I profiled Troid, the undisputed number 1 org in London. Troid have responded by tumbling to 6th in the rankings due to an extended Christmas break. They appear to be up and running again and have 3 events lined up for the future. Can they regain their number one spot is the giant on wane?

Of course when a great tree falls in the forest a gap opens in the canopy and there is an opportunity for all the saplings to become that great tree. Leading the charge is Invidious Combat who, at the time of writing, are the new UK number 1. Congratulations to Org owner John McGuirk. I profiled Invidious back in the first edition of London’s Brawling so I’m not going to repeat myself. However this is a strong org, with two fighters in the P4P top 100 and a number of exciting upcoming events. Invidious look like they are determined to make the number 1 spot their own.

As I’ve already done several Org profiles I thought I would change it up a bit and profile some of the big name fighters on the London scene. These are the top dogs in the city right now and help define the Orgs they fight in. The signing of any of these fighters is a major coup for an Org and with the battle for top spot intensifying their value is greater than ever.

Sunny Supernova (11957)
With a record of 21-3 Sunny Supernova is the number 1 P4P fighter in London. He fights at Welterweight and is ranked 30 in the world. An Elite level Boxer with Sensational Muay Thai Supernova is a stand up machine. 7 Decisions wins show that he is able to go the distance if he can’t knock his opponent out. However despite being based in London he currently fights in St Petersburg and as such is disqualified from the list (hey my rankings my rules). Come on Org owners of London, do the patriotic thing and bring this boy home. So if Supernova isn’t number 1 then the honour must go to…….

Daniel Ruanti (42356)
It is fitting that London’s number 1 Org should have London’s number 1 fighter. Although born in Rio, Brazil, Runati’s entire career has been spent in London. He has fought for a number of Orgs but finally seems to have settled in Invidious where he is their Light Heavyweight Champion. A well rounded fighter, Ruanti has picked up wins by TKO, by decision and by submission. He is extremely confident and has a good chin making him extremely hard to stop. Runati is a legend in London and is rightly crowned number 1 P4P fighter.

Alex Cordoba (50666)
If the Heavyweights are the top dogs in the fight game then the top Heavyweight must be the best fighter in London? Forget this P4P nonsense, size matters. Sadly the top couple of Heavyweights who call London home fight abroad and we have to look to number 3 on the list to find our champion. Alex Cordoba is the newly crowned Invidious Heavyweight Champion having beaten Knocko Blocko on New Years Day. Whilst Cordoba’s record of 15-6 isn’t stellar his record of 15 TKO’s in 15 wins is very impressive and points to a man with dynamite in his fists. He also has an uncanny ability to bust his opponents open with 5 of those victories coming by way of ref stoppage for cuts. Make sure you bring a needle and thread if you’re facing Cordoba and there is a good chance you’ll wind up needing stitches.

Lewis Worsley (164733)
Ok so a record of 2-0 doesn’t mean much but Lewis Worsley is the top ranked rookie fighter in London. He is a wrestler with a granite chin and the ability to do damage with both his wins coming in the first round. After testing the waters with QFC’s he has signed with Bloodsport Fighting Championships. It’s early days for Worsley, and his manager is equally inexperienced, but we could be seeing the start of a promising career.

Upcoming

As per usual I’m writing this on a Saturday morning, however it won’t be published until next Thursday so I’m looking far into the future. Here are some of the cards you might want to pay attention to.

London Fight Night Club - LFNC 96 - Friday the 13th

Another double title event from LFNC, this should be a good one. The Co-Main event sees Tommy Kane challenge Hades Underworld for the Middleweight Belt. Kane, a recent signing from HBCC in Amsterdam, has a big ID advantage but Underworld has the advantage when it comes to primaries. Underworld is a LFNC hall of famer and I predict him to cement that status with a comfortable win against the new comer.

The main event sees Sean Quinn defend his Welterweight Title against Msgt Ernest G Bilko. The last time they met Quinn dominated and finished Bilko in the 2nd round. However Bilko has improved drastically since that time and is now looking to take the title and avenge the only blemish on his record. Quinn won’t make it easy for him though, he has a solid jaw and a devastating punch. I’m going to predict a win for Bilko, although given that Quinn is my fighter perhaps that’s just a bit of reverse psychology to put pressure on the other man.

Bloodsport Fighting Championship - Bloody Hell XXXIV

Bloodsport continue to hold events at a frenetic pace, the pick of the bunch however is this one. Featuring two title fights, this should be a corker.

The Co-Main event sees Owen Schmitt defend the Middleweight Title against Marcus Miller. Miller is an Elite Level boxer and has 19 wins in his career. However he also has 20 losses and despite coming off a decent couple of wins you have to ask if he really deserves a title shot. He has the striking ability to trouble the champ but I don’t see this being anything other than a win for Schmitt.

The main event sees Unto CB Torture defend the Light Heavyweight belt against Thomas Power. Again the challenger has a less than stellar record at 17-16 but he does have the skills to cause the champion problems. Again however I don’t see the title changing hands here and this should be a comfortable win for Torture.

Elite Fighting Championship - TBA 2

This as yet unnamed event from the relatively new Org is already shaping up to be a good one. The main event sees Lightweight Champion Dmitriy Levitan defend his title against Kyle Bradley. Levitan will be looking to get back on track after a loss against Renato Sobral. Sobral was brought in on a one shot deal and the title wasn’t on the line when they met. Levitan has the edge in Muay Thai but I see this as a win for Bradley.

The Co-main event sees another title on the line as Johnny Stryker takes on Aewult Byrne for the Welterweight Title. Whilst Stryker only has one fight under his belt is was an impressive 23 second KO win. So we know Stryker has power but what else does he have? This is a tough one to call as so little is known about the challenger. However he is better on his feet than his opponent and is a good enough wrestler to keep it standing. My call, the title changes hands with a win for Stryker.

Troid - An Troid -86

Troid’s first event after a length hiatus is headlined by the rematch between Ding Dong and Harry Hutton. Two time champion Dong is a Troid legend in the Heavyweight Division. Hutton came into Troid in August last year and went on an impressive 5 match winning streak, showing off his devastating kicks. The result was a draw when they last met with one judge picking each of the fighters and the other calling it a draw. When 3 rounds of action can’t separate two warriors there is only one thing to do, put them back in the ring for another 3. My call, Hutton to make sure this one doesn’t go to the judges with a lethal head kick.

And Finally

I’d like to give a shout out to Heroic Warrior Championship, London’s newest Org. While they only have one event under their belts at the time of writing they have plenty more lined up and seem to be going all out to establish themselves. They are currently concentrating on High ID fighters, especially in the 185 lb division which already looks strong. So if you’ve got a new fighter in London who needs a home why not check them out?
