 BFT 204 Review

Lightweight - Two time Bonus Winner Spar Bjj submit Manny "Steel" Skelton with a triangle armbar at 1:49 in the first round.

At the distance, Skelton had Bjj's number. He had him rocked and knocked... down, but his tenacity kept him standing. Skelton was wise not to jump on top of Spar then. He was not wise when he took Spar down soon after. Even though Bjj was fairly rocked when he got taken down, he was able to regain his senses and got a sub on to end it quickly.

What's next for Spar? Bjj is in an interesting position. He's not the best at the stand up, but once he hits the ground he's seemed unstoppable. Some good fights that could play right into his hands are Malaipet Sasiprapa and Janek Kochanowski. A rematch with Carlos Silva would be a close contest. Elijah Cao has pretty good credentials and an identical record. Or if he's in the mood for a BFT legend, "Fishbowl" is left opponentless.

Welterweight - Former Champ and 11 time bonus winner Jake Shields submit twenty time BFT vet "Clap" Igor Wietrzny  with a triangle choke at 1:38 in round 2.

Things looked dangerous for Shields early, he was getting out struck and had a cut early on his face. Although action seemed limited at times, Wietrzny was in control. He was the much more agressive of the two. Shields got a takedown in the last second, but it didn't help him out too much. The second round was much like the first... fight on the main card. Wietrzny looked good on the feet, took things to the ground, got submitted soon after. Shields' Bjj is nothing to test the water with. Nice job Jake!

What's next for the former champ? A fight with Georges St Pierre or Diego Del Santos seem like reasonable steps forward.

Co-Main - Heavyweight - Former Champ and long time BFT staple Steve "The Tank" Tompkins knocked out two time bonus winner Nathan "The Rage" Cadge with punches at 1:46 in the first round.

This one started with a quick takdedown from Tompkins. Neither did much there for what seemed like forever, so the ref stood things up. Tompkins used the power that he generated to take things down in his punches and was able to put Cadge down.

What's next for "The Tank"? The names Josh Barnett, Dingo Monster, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira sound come to mind.

Main Event - Lightweight - Two time BFT former title challenger "Stoneface" Samuel Vimes Unanimous Decisoned long time fight vet (with fourty six fights to his name) "Mini" Fenton Meeks.

This fight was held at the distance and in the clinch. If you are a fan of Samuel Vimes, then this is your kind of fight. He was able to control the fight for just about of every second. I was cringing every time Meeks got hit. I mean Samuel Vimes really packs a punch and Meeks took it all. Meeks impressed the hell out of me though; He was never knocked down, never cut by a hard shot, and he stayed in there until the very end fighting it out. But at the end of the day, Samuel Vimes is a tough opponent for any of BFT's top lightweights, and Meeks was no exception.

What's next for "Stoneface"? I honestly think that Sam Vimes will be champ at BFT. If not now, soon, but I do believe he can take the belt. I would say the winner of the next Atsushi-Bonifacio fight would make sense. Of course, he did lose to Atsushi recently so maybe some more fights wouldn't hurt. A run in with BFT Hall of Famer Guilherme Alves would be awesome. Sergei Cosixen is a great test to see if he's up-to-par for the title challenge. And then Spar Bjj has been making a name for himself recently; it never hurts to stop a rising star, if he can.

265 - Frank "The Punisher" Castle SUB1 "Cobra" Danico Conde
