Scrapyard – Paterson vs Zeman is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by Scrapyard: New York on May 29, 2013 at The Underground arena in New York City, New York, USA.

Background

The welterweight championship is up for grabs! Anthony “Predator” Patterson will square off with hot prospect Anton Zeman to decide the fate of the division.

All of Anthony Patterson's victories have come via first round submission in the regional QFC shows. He is a purple belt in Brazilian Jujitsu and says that he is ready to prove himself the true welterweight champion.

Anton Zeman is a knockout artist. He loves to stand trade with opponents and he throws flurries of punches and kicks in each fight. Anton is also equally talented in the clinch.

Official Fight Card

-[Middleweight bout]: Tony Crain (0-2) versus Fraz Dexter (0-0)

-[Preview]: The boxer Tony Crain makes his Scrapyard debut against fellow newcomer Fraz Dexter. Crain is a boxer who has struggled on the regional circuit but hopes to turn it around here. Fraz Dexter is a Brazilian Jujitsu fighter. Neither fighter is particularly excellent at pure wrestling so it will be interesting to see who can keep the fight in their world to dominate.

-[Welterweight bout]: Duke Nukem (0-1) versus Dylan Todd (2-4)

-[Preview]: Duke Nukem returns after his disappointing defeat at the premiere Scrapyard event. Nukem is a grappler with a blue belt in Jujitsu. Dylan Todd is also a blue belted Jujitsu fighter that has a wealth of experience but many of his fights ended in a submission defeat. This fight could go either way, folks.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Artur Hawkwing (4-2) versus Lews Therin Telamon (5-1)

-[Preview]: In the light-heavyweight division, two purple belts meet to see who has the stronger ground game. Both of these guys have won all of their fights exclusively by submission.

-[Welterweight bout]: Sergei Kruzov (2-2) versus Josh Edwards (4-2)

-[Preview]: These guys are both very well rounded fighters with equal experience standing or on the ground. Edwards is more of a pure wrestler should the fight hit the ground whereas Kruzov has a blue belt in Brazilian Jujitsu. Despite having some striking in their respective arsenals, both guys are equally likely to hunt for a submission in this fight.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Dawn Keebals (1-1) versus Eddie Kingston (3-1)

-[Preview]: These two boxers will slug it out as soon as the opening bell tolls. Both guys throw a nearly obscene amount of combinations and let it all go the second the fight starts. Keebals is the superior boxer on paper but Kingston has a wealth of experience behind him.

-[Middleweight bout]: Alexander Khrepchenko (2-1) versus Marty Michaels (5-5)

-[Preview]: Khrepchenko is a Muay Thai style kickboxer that wants to keep this fight standing or against the cage at all costs. He has found success in two consecutive Scrapyard fights with this style and will very likely employ the same game plan against Michaels here. Marty Michaels is more of a pure wrestler in his approach to the fight game. He utilizes his clinchwork to try to snag a takedown and work towards a submission. He has never won via submission but he often threatens with them. Despite his wrestling based attack, Michaels has displayed a great deal of knockout power – in his fight with the now defunct Prototype MMA Fighting Championships league, he knocked his sole opponent out in just five seconds with a vicious combination of strikes.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Apollo Creed (4-2) versus Doctor Mundo (1-1)

-[Preview]: Doctor Mundo is a big, strong, hard-nosed Goliath of a fighter. He displayed a great deal of knockout power in his Scrapyard debut where he dropped Ron Collin immediately and then hammered him with takedown after takedown. The second takedown was more of a slam which rocked Collin setting up the stoppage.

Apollo Creed made his name in the now defunct Blackout fight organization. While there he claimed the heavyweight crown and defended it twice. With all of that hype following him to the Scrapyard fights, he found himself overwhelmed by Gegard Moose. Moose wanted none of the standup game against the heavy-handed slugger so he took Creed down immediately and pounded on him until the doctors halted the bout. Creed rebounded with a vicious beat down of fellow boxer Glenn Schmitz.

If Mundo can get this fight down, he will likely finish it in dramatic fashion.

-[Welterweight bout]: Lincoln McLeod (2-0) versus Brandon Hale (2-0)

-[Preview]: These two undefeated strikers are going to give us some fireworks when they meet. Lincoln McCleod has probably one of the biggest hearts in his division if not in the organization. In both of his pro fights we saw him get rocked by the strikes of his opponent only to come back and knock his opponent out shortly after in retaliation. Brandon Hale is a pure bruiser. He comes out quickly and applies pressure to his opponent and tries to break them with every shot.

I do believe that Brandon Hale will hurt Lincoln McLeod early in their fight but the real fireworks will begin as McLeod starts firing back with shots of his own. This is the fight I'm most pumped for personally.

-[Welterweight bout]: Jerome Johnson (3-4) versus Troy Lancaster (3-0)

-[Preview]: In the Co-Main event, Jujitsu fighter Jerome Johnson meets undefeated wrestler Troy Lancaster. Both fighters have glaring weaknesses in their games and both could very feasibly finish the other quickly in this fight.

-[Welterweight Championship bout]: Anthony Patterson (5-2) versus Anton Zeman (5-1)

-[Preview]: Anthony Patterson would like nothing more than to take this fight to the ground immediately and attempt to work his wicked submission game. In all five of his victories, Patterson has submitted his opponent within the first round.

Anton Zeman is the more well rounded of the two fighters clearly. He also has a purple belt in Brazilian Jujitsu although it appears to be strictly for defensive purposes rather than finding a submission of his own. Zeman prefers a more Muay Thai based style of attack with brutal punches and kicks as well as deadly accurate punches in the clinch.

We really haven't seen Patterson's clinch game but we have seen him eat some nasty punches to the head and stomach against the cage.
