Event Preview: hmma 86 Lawson v Tatov

Author:

Hello everyone “Sunshine” Weston Markson here with Rudy “The Box” Knife ready to take a look at HMMA 86, which takes place live on PPV this Friday in London!  The night is full of great fighters, contenders, former champions, and possibly future champions.  Headlined by Former heavyweight champion Julius “Lights out” Lawson as he looks to get back into contender status against Igor Tatov.

Rudy:  That’s right playas HMMA 86 is gonna bring the action, of course its not the card im really looking forward to but that’s another story for another time.  This is a great card, with some of the best fighters, its full of HMMA veterans and some newcomers who could mix up the divisions rankings in the near future.

MAIN EVENT

#7 Julius “Lights out” Lawson (25-13-1)  v  #8 Igor “Rat-a-tat” Tatov (26-15)

Weston:  The Main event of the evening is a Heavyweight fight between Igor Tatov, and the former champion Julius Lawson.   Lawson is one of those guys who just show up fight night, one of those guys who just turns it up a level and becomes an absolute monster fight time.  He comes into this fight having 1-1 after losing his title.  Getting a win here could allow him back into contention.   Igor Tatov came into HMMA claiming he would be a huge star, and he has lived up to his proclamation.  3-1 since joining HMMA after picking up two wins straight Tatov was looking like a title contender but then suffered a setback now back on the winning track and a chance once again for two straight could put him in a great spot for title considerations.   An interesting fact about these two is the last man to beat both was the current #1 contender Freeman Blackford.  A rematch could be in both fighters future and next time its possible it could be for a title.

Rudy:  Well I have said it before and I can say it a million times because Julius Lawson lives up to the “Lights Out” moniker.  24 out of his 25 wins have come by devastating (T)KO’s.   It’s no secret what Julius will want to do when the ref says fight, he will take the center of the cage and swing until either his opponent or himself falls.  Igor Tatov isn’t much different although he has a better ground game then Lawson and may try to pick up a win on the ground the majority of his wins have been by (T)KO 18 of his 26 wins have ended this way.  I think this is going to be a great brawl but who knows this is MMA.

Prediction:  Lawson to get back on track.

CO-MAIN EVENT

#4 Nate Barnes (25-13) v  #3 Kung Lao (14-5)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN EVENT is a Light-heavyweight battle as Nate Barnes, and Kung Lao lock horns in a bout that could determine the next #1 contender.  Lao comes into this fight a perfect 3-0 in HMMA and on the brink of earning a title shot, Nate Barnes is a former contender for the title, and would like nothing more then to get another chance at the title.  Sitting at 6-2, Barnes has been a surprise to many as most thought he was good but didn’t expect him to be a consistent top 5 ranked fighter in the division, having proven the doubter wrong up to this point he could once again prove the doubters wrong and derail the favored Lao.

Rudy:  21 out of 25 of Nate Barnes wins have come by (T)KO.   He has shown insane KO power and the ability to end a fight with just one strike at any moment.  He has a descent ground game that has been capable of not letting him lose by submission.  Hard to submit and hard to keep on his back Barnes has shown a knack for spar and brawl tactics.  Lao however may very well try to test the ground game of Barnes, Lao is a jack of all trades he is excellent at everything,  but not world class anywhere….other then the ground, a black belt in BJJ is what could lead to his biggest advantage coming into this fight,  if the fight gets to the ground Lao will have an advantage, but will he actually accomplish what no one else ever has and submit Barnes?

Prediction:  I think Lao takes this by TKO.
