HMMA 93 Preview

Event Preview: HMMA 93 Alexandrov v Uzannava.
HEROIC
2013-07-13, London, Wombley Arena
Author:

Hello everyone im sure most of you know me by know “Sunshine” Weston Markson along with my ultra moronic cohost Rudy “The Box” Knife.  You know this weekend HMMA takes London by storm putting on two events both of which could potentially break HMMA records.  The first event HMMA 93 is on Saturday and takes place in Wombley arena where over 12000 fans are expected to scream, dance, and make sweet passionate pleas to their deities as they urge on their favorites. This event also expects to garner worldwide interest as it goes live on PPV for three hours.  Its going to be a hell of a night and I cant wait.

Rudy:  As dumb as you are Rudy, for once you got it right man! This is going to be a sweet weekend and a fantastic card.  HMMA 93 is headlined by a huge Light-heavyweight fight that could determine the next challenger for the champion.  Speaking of possible #1 contender bouts, we could also see the Jarkko/Floor Jan fight at lightweight having a huge impact on the title picture.  It also has two awesome title fights when the Welterweight and Light-Heavyweight champions put their titles on the line.

MAIN EVENT

#2 Fedor “Sambist” Alexandrov (19-6) v  #4  “Go” Phukyorselvf Uzannavabizch (23-5-1)

Weston:  The main event of HMMA 93 is a light-heavyweight battle which will most likely determine the next number one contender in the division.  Fedor Alexandrov is fresh off his first title loss, HMMA brass had announced last time out Fedor was on the brink of becoming Heroic stepping into the HMMA HoF.  When the fight started it was business as usual “Sambist” used his Sambo got a takedown and started to employ his GNP, what happened next shocked the world as the black belt found himself entangled in a triangle armbar by the brown belt KPP, after fighting it Fedor was forced to submit a new champion was crowned and Fedor was left with a huge void where the title formally went in his heart.  Now Fedor feels he has something to prove and is hellbent on getting his title back his first step is to earn a victory over Phukyorselvf Uzannavabizch to keep things short im going to call him PU.  PU has had a long and storied MMA career and in his last fight he made his HMMA debut a victorious one against one of the best fighters in the division.  Now the 4th ranked fighter has a tall task of defeating the former champion but it is a task necessary for his own title aspirations.  Which one of these two warriors comes out on top?

Rudy:  This is going to be an intense fight, anytime something so big is on the line it always is, with the winner most likely getting a title shot it will be interesting to see how these fighters approach this fight will they do so with caution or try to pull out all the stops to make it a quick night.  This is a classic matchup against of the grappler vs the striker.  PU is a really good striker with outstanding KO power.  65% of his wins have come by (T)KO, he has also never been knocked out so if this fight stays standing watch closely.  The grappler in this matchup is Fedor he has Olympic level wrestling and world class BJJ.  He normally uses his Sambo to get guys to the ground and pound on them until they go unconscious or leave themselves open to a submission.  Fedor has finished every single win he has 100%!  He has never won a decision but has lost 4 of them so if this fight goes into the latter rounds it could swing in PU’s favor.

Prediction:  I think this one is a very close decision war.  The winner is whoever does more damage in their world I think both guys will have moments where they dominate.

CO-MAIN EVENT

#1/C "Peltosaaren Teurastaja" Brutaali Keijo  (17-10-1) v  Richard ”The Lion” Nixon (25-7) 170 lbs title

Weston:  Ladies and Gentlemen the CO-MAIN EVENT is a welterweight title fight current kingpin Brutaali Keijo defends his title against Richard Nixon.  Keijo is making a name for himself as one of the most preeminent welterweight champions.  Since the run of John Saunders that lasted over a year the title was looking for a home.  With three straight title wins it seems Keijo may have given the title a home, but not for long if challenger Richard Nixon has anything to say about it.  Nixon may be the biggest test for Keijo yet having won 9 title fights in other orgs Nixon is no stranger to the big fight.  This is his third fight in HMMA and in his previous two fights he showed he has all the tools to become champion so will Brutaali fall at the hands of “The Lion”? Or will Brutaali continue his reign and one day become the best welterweight champion of all time?

Rudy:  These two guys are similar and not at the same time.  Nixon has been a knockout artist in the past but since coming to HMMA he has so far only had close decision battles which have come out in his favor.   Keijo has often been scrutinized by his critics and haters saying he doesn’t finish fights, but before his time in HMMA he had finished all but three of his wins.  His naysayers are absolutely idiots as he has been one of the most entertaining fighters in HMMA despite having not won by finish in nearly a year.  With these two fighters being so similar I imagine they will come out with some great striking exchanges leading to one of the most entertaining wars yet.  If this fight does end up hitting the ground I give the champion the edge there, but neither fighter normally goes that route so I doubt we will see much if any time on the ground.

Prediction:  The Champion retains by decision.

MAIN CARD

#3 Naru "Käsi" Jarkko (22-10) v #8  Kenny Floor Jan (23-7)

Weston:  The last fight on the main card or as I like to call it the main event of the main card is what could turn out to be a #1 contenders bout for the lightweight championship.  Although this has not been confirmed yet I expect both fighters will treat this fight as if that is the case.  For Jarkko it would be a long awaited second opportunity at a HMMA title, the first was a loss to what was the greatest champion in HMMA at the time.  In Jarkko’s last fight he beat the first fighter to ever beat the very man he couldn’t take the title from back then.  This I expect will give him the confidence he needs to come out on top over Kenny Floor Jan.   Floor Jan is making his HMMA highly anticipated HMMA debut.   The internet forums have been buzzing about this guy as a possible contender since he signed the dotted line with HMMA.  With 7 title victories in other orginzations its not hard to see why there is so much expectations out of Kenny.

Rudy:  Im telling you right now this is the fight I most looking forward too Saturday, I just cant wait to see how this one turns out.  Both of these guys are well-rounded and evenly matched neither is afraid to fight and will do so wherever the fight takes place.  Floor Jan is the better striker but the advantage is small and the same can be said for Jarkko on the ground.  Floor Jan is the better finisher having finished over 70% of his fights but Jarkko is dangerous and capable of finishing a fight at any moment having done so 54% of the time.  I honestly have no clue what to expect in this fight and it’s the unknown that makes it so interesting to me.

Prediction:  I think Jarkko wins by decision.

#1/C Kaka Pheu Pheu (11-1-1) v  #3 “The Great” Nate Barnes      (26-13)                  205 lbs title

Weston:  The third fight on the main card is a light-heavyweight title fight between newly crowned champion KPP and long time contender Nate Barnes.  In his last fight KPP shocked the world ending the long reign of then champion Fedor Alexandrov.  Undefeated in HMMA and sitting at 5-0-1 KPP has the potential to become a longtime champion in the light-heavyweight division, but to start the storybook run first he must dispose of challenger Nate Barnes in his first ever title defense, will the newly crowned champion find the fame and bright lights to much faltering under the pressure?  Nate Barnes hopes so, Barnes has been one of the light-heavyweight division’s stars for some time now 7-2 in HMMA he has often surprised many and surpassed the expectations of most.  This is his second opportunity at HMMA gold just two wins removed from his last.  Will he be able to come out on top this time?

Rudy:  O yeah! You know I recently found KPP saying some things about this fight online.  He said”  I am going to kill this guy, he has been knocked out 10 times!”  Although Barnes has lost 10 times by (T)KO he almost half of those were by cut Barnes has proven to be prone to emo cutting but despite these truths here is the most important truth about Barnes.  He has Killer instinct and nuclear missiles for arms.  No seriously I have seen them and I have always wondered what It would be like to see a head explode.  Barnes has attempted this 21 times as 21 of his 26 wins have been by (T)KO.  Don’t expect Barnes to take his fight to the ground he wants to keep it standing and hope he lands one of his big shots, KPP on the other hand wont care where the fight is at all.  With 4 wins by (T)KO, 4 by submission, he has proven to be an all-around threat and one of the most interesting and entertaining fighters.  You just never know what he will do will he attack standing or take the fight to the ground, I think in this fight against Barnes he will try to exploit the weakness of Barnes ground game the  question is will Barnes be able to survive on the ground history has shown he can having never been submitted but has he faced anyone as dangerous as KPP on the ground we are going to find out soon!

Prediction:  I like this fight a lot, both fighters could win but I think KPP wins by decision in this one.

#5 Roy “The Wardog” Pittbul (19-8-1)  v  #9 Malcolm Marshall (9-0)

Weston:  The second fight on the main card is a lightweight fight between two ranked fighters, #5  Roy Pittbul, and the debuting 9th ranked Malcolm Marshall.   Since joining HMMA Roy Pittbul has been a stud, going 3-3-1 and getting 3 chances at the title.  He is always in the hunt and has shown true warrior spirit having never been finished and coming very close to winning the title on several occasions his ability to keep every fight close is what keeps him near the top and always dangerous in any fight, I cant say enough about how great Pittbul is, after his last fight a loss to the champion he was assigned the task of welcoming Malcolm Marshall to HMMA.  Marshall comes in having never lost a perfect 9-0.  This is however a huge step up for Marshall and could tell us whether he is ready for the highest level of competition against the elite fighters in HMMA’s lightweight division.  Will Pittbul derail the hype train of Malcolm Marshall or will Marshall defeat one of HMMA’s best Lightweights and start a path towards the title?

Rudy:  Ok so M&M in the building,  the debut of Marshall is going to be interesting because there is a lot of hype behind him a lot of people have him billed as one of the best up and comers in MMA but Pittbul is the most dangerous and best fighter he has faced yet.  Pittbul is the toughest person I have ever met this guy can take a beating and continue on like nothing happened.  Although Pittbul loves striking and normally throws a lot of punches with his boxing technique I think he maybe at a small advantage standing skill wise.  He has an advantage if this fight hits the ground so he should look for an opportune time for a takedown and go for it.  If he mixes it up well and gets a takedown or two  I think he wins the fight.  Marshall’s game is striking, he uses his Olympic wrestling skils to avoid takedowns like the plague he has never been taken down and has never taken anyone down,  if he keeps the fight standing I think he can earn a victory.  Both guys have power, and both can finish at any moment so this fight is going to be awesome either Pittbul shows once again why he is the best or the new kid comes in and proves he could be a standout in the division.

Prediction:  I think Pittbul gets a decision here.

Vlad Impaler (23-13)  v #10  "Baddest man on the planet"  Mike Tyson    (19-10-1)

Weston:  The first fight on the main card is a lightweight matchup when the 10th ranked Mike Tyson takes on HMMA debutant Vlad Impaler.  Impaler comes into this fight riding a 6 fight win streak and into HMMA with some hype and expectations from his fans as a possible contender in the division, with seven title victories on other organizations many think Impaler could jump to the front of the pack of contenders in a short time.  His first fight will put him to the test right away as he faces 10th ranked and former HMMA lightweight champion Mike Tyson.  Tyson recently underwent a nickname change after going 5-0-1 in his first 6 fights in HMMA and looking like a sure fire long term champion Tyson has recently found times a little more of a struggle having gone 1-2 in his last three, maybe this is the reason for his nickname change or maybe just maybe there are more nicknames awaiting from “The baddest man on the planet” Aside from the nickname I know Tyson wants desperately to get back into title contention so he can once again where that beautiful HMMA title around his waist.

Rudy:  Weston you took a shot at me earlier in the broadcast and now I wanted to return the favor again, I swear every time you talk about Mike Tyson your pants start to rise, not that there is anything wrong with that but its just something I have noticed over the years.  Speaking of Tyson he is truly a great fighter and always a threat to go on a run towards the title.  He nearly has world-class skills across the board, his wrestling and BJJ are highly underestimated and the secret to his success he mixes up takedowns very well into his striking game to steal and win rounds from opponents.  He also has an 82% success rate in defending takedowns which allows him to dictate where the fight takes place the majority of the time.  Impaler is a solid fighter all around but really excels on the ground.  His ability to ground opponents and work his GNP and BJJ have led him to 11 finishes by submission and 5 by TKO.  I expect this fight to be a great one and it could turn out to be a surprising ground battle.

Prediction:  I think Tyson gets back on track here winner by decision.
