 BFT 222 Review

Heavyweight - The former DUFF Heavyweight contender Hesher Gordon Levitt KO'ed the two time BFT Knockout of the Night Bonus Winner "Lapper" Kim Boshesh with a punch at 20 seconds in the first round.

Holy Moley! The first combo out of Levitt cut open Boshesh. Boshesh had fear in his heart after that and was back pedaling quite a bit. Meanwhile, Gordon Levitt was landing his shots with perfect precision (landing 6 of 6 shots) and sending Kim out with a single left hook. YOWZA!

What's next for the BFT newcomer? Looking at the current Heavyweight roster, it seems to be pretty filled up. Unless a newcomer comes in, the two that are best fit for the situation currently are Gilles Gerard, contesting most of his victories with knockouts as well, and the loooong time BFT and fight vet Peter Tyzzkling.

Light Heavyweight - Finisher in 6 of his 7 career victories Jose "Polvo" Gusmero knocked out submission specialist and 5 time BFT Bonus Winner "Vain" John Wain with strikes with 5 seconds left in the first round.

The fight got started and Gusmero was ready to kill. He was landing his shots at will while Wain kept trying for the takedown. After wearing him down a bit, Gusmero took the fight to the mats right into gaurd. Although Wain certainly seemed more game on the ground, Gusmero proved his grappling might, both maintaining top postion (while making his way to full mount) and landing the ground and pound with great precision. He was even able to cut Wain open while he was bucking around. A few more shots after that and Wain had enough.

What's next for "Polvo"? He's really picked up his game as of recently, going on his second three fight winning streak and redeeming himself for his prior first round loss to Wain. He already has a fight in the works against an unnamed opponent; I believe it will either be Mukassa Jones, Bulgelene Gossables, Mauricio Rua, or, dare I say it, Shananigan Lurendrejer.

Middleweight - The former AFL Middleweight title challenger Legoinarivs "Apocolyptic" Sakara Unanimous Decisioned the former Boomerang! Middleweight title challenger "The Bed Intruder" Antoine Dodson.

Things got started and Dodson was throwing hard. Sakara was no slug himself, finding opportunities to land some solid shots himself. Sakara showed his power rocking Dodson with a shot that just barely clipped the top of his head about a minute and a half into the first round. Dodson was able to recover from it... kinda. He wasn't fighting as well after that, but he kept going. Sakara kept coming forward trying to land with everything he had. Dodson was able to time a fine counter takedown, but didn't have too much time to work. Neither fighter was able to do much down there and the round ran its course. After the breif break, the two men went right back to striking. Sakara worked forward, slowly making his march forward and showing the crowd that he had more than what it took to bring the fight. Hell, he even turned around with a spinning back fist. The crowd seemed to love that and was the most significant thing to happen in the second. The final round got started and Dodson was down on the cards. He tried to take the fight to Sakara, but Sakara was really on the ball that night. A wound-up right hand sent Dodson down to the mat, but he stayed in the fight. Sakara seemed almost too reserved, like he didn't want the finish that badly. Maybe he really wanted to inflict some pain onto Dodson. Regaurdless, Dodson managed to bring the fight to the clinch for the first time, but Sakara was the agressor there as well. Dodson's corner called for a break, and he was happy to oblige. Sakara stayed on it at the distance and clinched things up himself for a few seconds. Coming into the final stretch, the two fighters traded until the final bell rang out. Sakara walked away with a decision victory, and I don't think there was a single surprised fan in the audience.

What's next for Legoinarivs? Looks like his contract had recently ended, so hopefully he'll sign with BFT again. If so, there's a welcoming basket of fighters in 3X BFT Bonus Winner Richie Yang and former champ Damian Nitschke.

Co-Main - Heavyweight - The 53 fight vet making his BFT debut "The Great Bear" Aleksander Ivanov knocked out the former TCA and TFC Light Heavyweight Champ and former BFT Heavyweight title challenger "Leonidas" Diziz Sparta with strikes at the last second in the second round.

This one started as an on-and-off clinch fight. In both cases, Sparta was able to get the better of the situation. Ivanov was able to land one decent shot in the onslaught Sparta brought on the feet. Sparta was even able to control the fight as he took it to the ground for a few moments before changing his mind and standing back up. Sparta was able to keep on it and handedly took the round. The second round was started in the clinch right out of the gates; Ivanov looked he had a fire lit under him inbetween rounds. From there, Ivanov was able to use submission attempts to distract his opponent and make his way into full mount. He landed shots and took a look at the clock. He saw time was short and cracked down some more ground and pound. The ref jumped in there and the horn went off just afterward. Would a third round have ended the fight any differently? There's no way of knowing, but great comeback from Ivanov.

What's nect for Ivanov? "The Great Bear" also has a fight in the works for an upcoming card, but it has yet been determined against who. My thoughts? Frank Mir. Jason Hannibal. Steve Tompkins. All good options.

Main Event - Welterweight - The two time former Valhalla and FCD Welterweight title challenger Curtis "Razor" Sharp Unanimous Decisioned the former BFT Welterweight Champion and owner of an outstanding 14 BFT Bonuses (11 by way of submission) Jake Shields.

At the distance, Curtis Sharp was all over Shields. He had no idea how to overcome the striking disadvantage. Well, until he went and got the takedown. It didn't help him too much. He had a hard time holding Sharp down and couldn't lock up any of the nine submission attempts he went for in the first round. The two of them really seemed to nullify each other on the ground. The first was a hard round to score. The second got started and Sharp really wanted to keep things on the feet. Sharp remained... sharp (I know, I'm a horrible person) and kept his punches crisp. Shields took the punishment in stride. An uppercut had Jake's head snap back and got him bleeding a bit. Sharp stayed on top of shields with his strikes until the end of the round and there was no doubt that he had the round. Shields was desperate going into the third and dragged the fight to the ground. Neither guy really got much going there, so the ref brought things back to the feet, much to Shields disliking. But hey, gotta keep working if you want the fight to contest down there. Sharp continued on his striking dominance leaving Shields to have no response. Although he wasn't able to get the finish, Sharp walked away with his hand raised high. Interesting Caveat, Sharp was able to get a 10-8 round in the second from all the judges. That really shows two things: 1) how much more dominant Sharp really was on the feet and 2) How durable Jake Shields is that he could withstand a 2-point round from Sharp.

What's next for "Razor"? The Las Vegas Native has won his last 4 fights, all of which ended by strikes except this one. Surely he'll get some good competition out of this. He too has a fight comiing up, but is still uncomfirmed. My thoughts are around a winner earlier on the card, Ryan Clarkson. Otherwise... Alejandro Garcia?
