WILLIAMS CAMP SUFFERS CRUSHING DEFEAT AT REVO CAMP WARS!

WILLIAMS CAMP SUFFERS CRUSHING DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF DEAN CAMP AT MOMENTOUS FIRST CAMP WARS EVENT

Fedor Belfort versus Dion Devlin

As Hayashi's Lounge opened up it's doors to a huge roar of approval from it's fans, the opener's entrance music had already started playing, and the fans were immediately treated to the sight of Belfort striding down the aisle with full confidence to the music of Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9. Young Devlin followed soon after with his youthful swagger, and after a brief staredown between these two promising youths, the fight was on. Devlin would waste no time, aiming a wide head kick towards an approaching Belfort, but even as Belfort moved aside to avoid it, Devlin had already planted his feet and bullrushed forward, grabbing Belfort's leg and scoring a single leg takedown before the Dean stable prodigy had even realised what was happening. Unfortunately for Belfort, once the fight hit the ground, he again began to look akin to a fish out of water. Planted firmly on his back with no way out, he quickly gave up a mount position to the sixteen year old youth, and from there, it was pure mathematics. One shot, two shots, three shot, rocked! Fourth shot and that's all on the clock! Just before two minutes into this momentous event, and Devlin was already having his hand raised in glorious victory via pure KO, a glassy eyed Belfort staring up at the ceiling in a hazed stupor.

Owner's Thoughts

Not sure whether to be pleasantly surprised with this outcome, or cursing the fact that we opened with an immediate loss for the Williams' camp! Let's just say it's a bittersweet moment. Devlin pulled out a victory and showed he's got what it takes, despite going against my own advice, and at the end of the day, having Devlin's interests at heart, that's a good thing. But with an immediate loss on our hands, the Williams camp's battle at Camp Wars was off to a terrible start already.

Waturu Yatsubuta versus Albert Dulin

The second fight of the night featuring two welterweights representing their respective camps in a non-title bout, meaning of course, that both men were eager to prove themselves as well as take home the large promised fight purse for the winning camp. Dulin, being the submission specialist, needed the fight to hit the mat, and quickly. Yatsubuta, while no slouch on the mat, didn't want to tangle with Dulin there nonetheless, and aimed to keep the fight standing. Unfortunately for the Slovakian native ... it was Dulin who would get his wish, opening the bout with a quick duck and weave under a combo attempt from Yatsubuta and immediately scoring a double leg takedown into guard. Despite Dulin's superiority on the ground, Yatsubuta would handle himself well on the mat, evading any submission attempt sent his way and even managing to throw in some offense of his own, not quite going toe to toe with the brown belt but certainly making a case for himself. By the end of the first round, there was still no victor, and it was such that the second round commenced. Unfortunately again for Yatsubuta though, he would continue to see no success with any strike attempts, and it wasn't long before his back hit the mat once more. This time, Dulin was more calculating and focused. Immediately switching from guard to side control, and side control to mount, he would maneuver himself into a favourable position from which there was no return for his opponent. Just past the minute mark, he would lock in a vicious armbar as Yatsubuta flailed about, trying to escape his predicament in a none too effective way, and crank on the limbs until Yatsubuta tapped, earning him both the victory, and the submission of the night award, after a fantastic mat display.

Owner's Thoughts

Ah.... just like I thought it would go. Too bad for Yatsubuta, he did pretty well on the ground against a supposedly far superior grappler. End of the day though, Dulin was too much for him to handle. Now at 0 - 2, the Williams camp already had it's back against the wall. Not good. Not good at all.

Greer Leonardson versus Seano Mac

Third fight looking to get underway, and something appears wrong with 21 year old lightweight, Seano Mac. Perhaps he went out drinking the previous night and really is a lightweight in all meanings of the word, but he simply didn't appear all there. Unfortunately for him, his opponent, Greer Leonardson would take full advantage. Avoiding Mac's attempts to take him down, Leonardson would navigate the bout at his own pace, striking at a distance effectively from outside the clinch, before closing in and locking up with his opponent, tripping Mac up and scoring a takedown into guard. Here, he would once again work at his own pace, advancing effectively into full mount before cinching in an armbar upon one of Mac's exposed arms, cranking on it until Mac would succumb, just before the second minute of the first round.

Owner's Thoughts

Oh lord. 0 - 3, right off the bat, and we were quickly approaching the point of no return. Mac didn't seem all there tonight, I was looking forward to seeing his usually energetic performances. I don't know why he chose tonight of all tonights to not come in with his game face, but it cost us terribly. Credit to Leonardson though. He played his strategy out well, Mac was his for the dominating.

Marcus Gronholm versus Suezo Angelo

Despite a loss in his debut showing at REVO, heavyweight Suezo Angelo had impressed his camp owner, Jolon Williams enough to be granted a second chance at a first impression, this time against an MMA veteran in Marcus Gronholm. Taking the opportunity by it's horns, Angelo would literally bullrush his opponent from across the cage, driving in tenaciously for a takedown and, with his highly adept grappling ability, even eventually scoring it despite the initial distance between both fighters. Gronholm, while being a notorious striker, was definitely less intimidating on the mat, so with the fight now taking place there, Angelo had a strong advantage at this stage. Yet, after giving up his position on the ground, Angelo would fail to do anything meaningful on the mat, and once the referee stepped in, that was the beginning of the end for Angelo. After a nasty right would slice him open, Angelo's cardio would start to fail him. Soon after another right would send him crashing to the mat. As he stood, dazed, a third straight right would crash into his jaw, and Angelo the grappler would know no more. Gronholm would have his hand raised in victory, scoring the Dean Camp four consecutive victories, only requiring two more out of six bouts to record the win for their camp at the first ever Camp Wars.

Owner's Thoughts

I can remember myself at this point of the night, just shaking my head, buried in my hands as it were. Four consecutive losses, and we were in a really bad way. Angelo got the fight where he needed it, but couldn't do anything with it once he did. Not aggressive enough, I guess. Gronholm then massacred him on his feet, just like everyone knew he would if the fight got or stayed there. Honestly, I wanted to up and leave then. But I couldn't. The next fight was our first title fight of the night, and I had to show my support for our heavyweight contender in Kasparov.

Shane Winslow versus Oleg Kasparov

With everything to lose now for the Williams camp, Kasparov entered the cage in the first title bout of the night, with the full knowledge that if he lost, his camp would stand no chance of scoring the victory at the first ever Camp Wars as a burden upon his shoulders. Shane Winslow himself, entered this fight following a loss and thusly had everything to prove, to show he truly deserved this shot. A similar fighter to Angelo in his own right, the fighter whom Kasparov defeated in his debut to earn his title contendership, there were quite a few fans of the opinion that Kasparov had this fight well in hand. However, as the fight started up, it soon became clear that Winslow's experience was coming into play quickly, where Angelo's limited knowledge had failed him. Utilising his superior striking rather than relying on his pure forte, Winslow busted Kasparov wide open with a nasty left right combination immediately following the bell. Despite this, Kasparov would continuously seek the takedown, and eventually score one, landing comfortably in Winslow's guard. Yet, despite controlling his opponent effectively, Kasparov would only manage to land limited offense before Winslow would see his opportunity and push the superior grappler off of him, getting back to his feet. Following this, Kasparov simply just did not have a lot to say or do, walking into multiple strikes from the veteran heavyweight as he tried to close the distance, before taking one plum on the noodle that just proved too heavy to withstand. Just before the third minute mark of the fight, and just over fifteen minutes of action total, and the Williams' camp dropped another fight to make it 0-5.

Owner's Thoughts

Both of my heavyweights, both of my grapplers, managed to take the fight where they wanted it but still failed to take full advantage of the fact. It was just all extremely unfortunate really. At this stage, we had no hopes for a win, only a draw to save face, or what remained of it. This just wasn't how I'd envisioned our side faring. With all the title bouts coming up though, I decided that as the camp owner, I had to stick it out regardless. They're all out there fighting for my camp, afterall. Can't just leave them in the lurch, even if things were looking bad for us. I put all my hopes into the next fight. Our middleweight Muay Thai and submission specialist, Mr. Jimmy Pistol.

Wotjek Brudasek versus Jimmy Pistol

Both Jimmy Pistol and Wotjek Brudasek were partial strikers with a more accomplished mat game, so the fight was probably always going to end up on the ground at some point. The only question really, was which one of the two purple belts could outmaneuver the other and score the submission? Both men had scored all their victories via submission in the past, the only difference was that Brudasek had never been submitted before in his career, while Pistol had been submitted twice in the past. Not a particularly hopeful stat for Mr. Williams, nor the Pistol fans. But as they say, numbers are not always reliable ... and there is a first time for everything. Right from the get-go, there was no pretense, the two men both sought to lock up, and Brudasek would manage to gain the favourable position, grabbing double underhooks and dragging Pistol to the ground with him. Pistol would, however, counter Brudasek, moving about aggressively with the clear intent of finding a stray limb to crank on. Not keen on allowing this, Brudasek would stand, if only to regain his composure. Oddly enough, he would then immediately seek the takedown again, once again scoring it, only now searching for openings himself. Yet, none were to be found, and with Pistol favourably maneuvering himself into full guard, Brudasek would suddenly find himself on a disadvantageous defensive, attempting, and failing, to protect himself from the legs suddenly locked around his neck and arm. With nowhere to go, Brudasek would fall victim to Pistol's merciless triangle choke, tapping within the second minute of the fight and surrendering the first defeat of the night for the Dean Camp.

Owner's Thoughts

What can I say? Well, first off, I can say that a lot of my predictions were not coming through! But in this particular scenario, I was glad for it. Pistol proved his worth with his fourth career submission victory, and second here at REVO. Excellent work, he proved that the Williams camp was down, but not quite yet out.

Will Scarlett versus Glenn Justice

One of the most heated rivalries thus far in REVO, also had the quickest finish of the night. Both men launched out of their corners aggressively following the opening bell announcing the beginning of this lightweight title bout, with Justice seeking the takedown whilst Scarlett attempted to keep the fight at a fair distance, enough so that he could utilise his competent striking abilities and take Justice out from afar. Unfortunately for Justice, his over aggressiveness with his takedown attempts did, indeed, serve him up on a silver platter, for Scarlett to pick at as he so chose. Not even fifteen seconds into the fight, and Scarlett, having dodged the third takedown attempt, let loose with a big jab, overhand right combo ... followed by another right, to put Justice to sleep. Will Scarlett sought Justice for the derogatory comments aimed his way, and he found him tonight, as well as the fancy KO of the night bonus cheque that he'll get to cash.

Victor - Dean Camp

Owner's Thoughts

When Justice lost that fight, it became official. We'd lost the Camp Wars. Unfortunately, Justice just wasn't able to get the fight where he needed it. That was the main problem with his offense, as I've stated before. He only has one way of winning. It served him well in the past, but against a well rounded opponent, it just didn't fly. Scarlett was able to avoid his grappling long enough ... or, well, short enough, to score the victory. Can't fault him. Justice is a good fighter though, I've no doubts he'll bounce back, maybe put some effort into his striking game following this, but he'll bounce back.

Zlatko Horvat versus George Wilson

The second controversial title contender of the night, Horvat made his way to the cage with a loss following his REVO debut against Daarknasset Oystenteller. Oystenteller had declined this fight for personal reasons, and thusly, the Dean camp had decided on Horvat to challenge instead for the title, but regardless of who it was, the Gentleman, George Wilson, showed no mercy. Horvat never stood a chance, throwing a total of one head kick before being knocked on his rear end. He managed to throw another one, equally swishing the air, before the end of the fight, but mainly it was a barrage of Wilson's fists that dominated this fight, including the uppercut during the third minute, which sent Horvat practically off his feet, backwards into the cage, before sliding down the mesh, his vacant expression already an indicator of the lack of any conscious thought within him, the resulting display earning George Wilson and Horvat the Fight of the Night award.

Owner's Thoughts

Don't think anyone expected any other result, to be honest with you. This one was always going to be Wilson. We do wish Horvat luck in his future here at REVO though, and we will strive to ensure he faces fair competition following this.

Ryo Narushima versus Jeremy Stapleton

The only fight of the night that Williams camp owner refused to predict, this fight balanced upon Narushima's personal experience, against the experience of the stable behind Stapleton. Unfortunately for Stapleton, his side would not win out on this particular occasion. The fight itself was a complete strikefest, taking place almost entirely on it's feet with nearly thirty meaningful strikes being thrown in the space of three minutes. Narushima's main offense, that being his leg kicks, were revealed to be an extremely deciding factor following young Stapleton's post fight interview, where he revealed that they, quote, 'really threw him off his game after the first one dug in', and that despite not looking like much, they 'hurt, big time.' The effects of this clearly showing, Stapleton slowed later on in the fight, allowing Narushima to press his advantage, busting Stapleton wide open with a massive head kick, knocking him to the canvas with another head kick and, after a brief scrap on the mat following this, another head kick which would practically take Stapleton's head off, earning Narushima the clearcut TKO victory.

Victor - Dean Camp

Owner's Thoughts

I like both of these guys, I really do. They're two of my favourite guys to hear from in REVO, so seeing them face off was a treat. Narushima, despite saying he may retire soon, is off to a good start here in REVO, and we hope to see him around for a while yet. As for Stapleton, despite this setback, it is with utmost confidence that I can say, this will not phase him at all. He'll come back, stronger than ever. I'm sure of it. With any luck, he'll be representing us at Camp Wars again in the future. Unfortunately, it just wasn't to be this time around. That's all.

Owen Glyde versus Rob Coogan

This now, all of this now brings us to the main event of the night. Coogan versus Glyde for the light heavyweight title. Fan opinions were mixed when it came to who they thought would come out with the victory. Fans had learnt not to bet against Coogan last time after his dominance over Geoffrey Powell, and indeed, those who bet on Glyde in this fight had an early scare as Coogan would immediately score a takedown in the opening of the first round, aggressively seeking opening after opening as he tried to find that one chink in the purple belt's armour that could allow him to press his advantage. Unfortunately for Coogan ... this chink simply never appeared. Glyde kept his cool, never overextending himself and maintaining a tight defensive and controlling posture, riding out the first round safely, despite clear dominance in the judge's eyes on Coogan's part. Glyde, however, would brush this off, and make the second round his new first, keeping his balance and avoiding takedown attempt after takedown attempt, even busting Coogan wide open early on with a nasty elbow to the side of his eye. Indeed, by the end of the round, and after numerous similar strikes, Coogan's cut was looking pretty bad, and the ringside doctor was beginning to look a bit apprehensive. As the third round began, making this fight the only fight on the card to go into the third round ... and fittingly so, given it's main event status, Glyde would come out aggressively, throwing an instant uppercut simultaneous to the bell, which would send Coogan crashing down to the canvas. Off to a bad start in the third and already dazed, Coogan simply could not muster up enough offense following it, and after getting clinch raped even further by Glyde, and collapsing down to the canvas once more following a massive shot to his dome, the doctor's were called in, with the judgement that his cut was preventing him from seeing effectively enough to continue the fight. With the doctor concurring, the fight was brought to an end via technical knockout of the cut variety. Perhaps a mildly disappointing end ... but certainly a gruesomely graphic one, if so!

Victor - Dean Camp

Owner's Thoughts

With that first round, I honestly thought for a second that Coogan had it. But I should have known not to second guess Glyde's abilities. That guy is pretty tenacious, and he proved that here tonight. Despite that loss making the Williams camp 2-8 at their first ever Camp Wars ... I'm still proud of the guy. He maintained his 100% finish record too, not many fighters can boast those figures.

FINAL RESULT -

DEAN CAMP - 8

WILLIAMS CAMP - 2
