 BFT - 224 Review

Light Heavyweight - One time BFT KO of the Night winner "The Best" Wolf West KO'ed One time BFT Submission of the Night winner Roberto "Chili Pepper" Cruz with Punches at 24 seconds in the first round, a rematch of their BFT - 171 fight, bringing their series to 2-0.

Was Cruz even in the fight to begin with? It seemed like he was just too out of it. West stomped it forward landing some nice shots rocking Cruz and winding him. He stayed on him until an overhand right rings his bell. Quick and decisive. What any fighter would want.

What's next for the card's fastest winner of the night? Rough call. Tafari Chinonso made was doing well in his young career until he debut in BFT, it wouldn't hurt to try and get a win over him. After getting his first BFT win, Maunu Tua lived up to the skills that brought him to BFT. He could being a good fight to West, possibly finding openings that West's last 3 opponents couldn't find. Finally, although he is a Hall of Famer at Sydney Extreme Cage Fighting, Anthony Ellison hasn't made the impact he thought he would in BFT. Could West keep that up? Or is he the opponent Ellison needs to get his win? I think these are good questions that could use an answer.

Heavyweight - Making his BFT debut, the former FFC Heavyweight Champion Brett "The Threat" Gray submits 3 time BFT Fight of the Night winner Buhju Banton with an americana at 3:56 in round 1.

Branton went for a combo, but Gray wasn't having any of it and dragged the fight to the ground, and side control at that! Both guys were trying to make improvements but nothing was working. Gray was working with some ground strikes to set up submissions. Right at the end, he was setting up the americana, but Banton worked out of it. As soon as he let go of it, Gray went for it again. It worked wonderfully. Great grappling, Gray!

What's next for "The Threat"? He already has a fight booked, with a winner a little further down the card.

Heavyweight - 3 time BFT Submission of the Night winner Joe Kimura KO'ed Frank Stevens, who has all of his victories by way of submission, with Strikes in 3:57 in round 1.

Frank and Kimura pretend to trade early, but nothing worked for either of them until Kimura took it to the mat. Frank tried to to get out of the position, looking for openings and trying to create them with submission attempts, but the BJJ brown belt wasn't having any of that. He was working on submissions himself, working the ground and pound over Stevens to try and create openings. A solid shot really cracked Stevens which had Kimura realize he coulkd finish this one with strikes. Kimura postured up, landed a left and a right, and Stevens was finished.

What's next for Kimura? He'll be fighting the former SECF Heavyweight Title Challenger "Fisty" Matt Fistface at this Wednesday's card (8-7-2013). Live at Hyashi's Lounge. Should be a great fight! See you there!

Co-Main - Heavyweight - With all 5 of his victories coming by way of knock out Silent Bob KO'ed 4 time BFT Submission of the Night winner Frank Mir with a punch at 2:39 in round 1.

Silent Bob was able to really crack Frank Mir early and Mir started to go for the takedowns fairly quickly. He got one, but he couldn't do anything and the ref stood them back up soon after. Bob went back on the offensive and was really doing his job. A jab on Mir's nose started to get him bleeding, an uppercut knocked Mir down and sent him to the mat, and an overhand right finished Mir off.

What's next for the Clerks Super Star? As I mentioned earlier, Brett Gary has a fight with another winner on the card. This is his guy. Brett will fight the Red Bank, New Jersey native at BFT - 227 at Hyashi's Lounge August 14 in what will likely be an exciting affair!

Main Event - Lightweight - 50 fight vet, former lightweigh title challenger for RCS, SPFT, and BFT, winner of 9 BFT of the Night awards "Mini" Fenton Meeks knocked out Simon Adebesi, winner of a BFT fight of the night award on his debut, at 2:17 in round 1.

The lightest guys on the main card sure as hell made a statement. They got started and were throwing leather back and forth. Both guys were looking to keep up with the quick finishes this night has brought so forth. Meeks saw an opening to bring the fight to the clinch and did so. He was landing every shot he was throwing out there. Punches and elbows were flying out there and always finding a home. Meeks landed a hook that snapped Adebesi's head all around. Meeks went onward to land a nice elbow, an finishes it with one more.

What's next for our main card winner "Mini"? He's got 4 wins in a row right now, so somehting big. Malaipet Sasiprapa is also looking like a hot fighter on a 4 fight winning streak. Suchart Chaowanungkarn is a long time fight vet as well. It's been about six months since they last met, are 1-1 against each other, and both fights are winner of Fight of the Night awards. And of course the title fight between Kuroda Atsushi and Enrico Mazzarri is coming up and he could find himself fighting the winner soon.
