AFC 15 – Karlsson Vs. Johnson

Valle Vs. Sentence

Lightweight fight between two bottom dwellers. Valle the BJJ fighter will take on the wrestler Sentence. Valle holds the standup advantage as well as having a greater reach. While Sentence has the slightly better wrestling, Valle has the better BJJ. You have to think Sentence will be looking to lay n prey his way to a decision, as that or a KO punch seems to be his only way to victory. I’ll take Valle by submission.

Bantamweight fight between the boxer/BJJ fighter Nichols, and the sensational boxer Andric. Andric will have the fight experience, as well as a huge reach advantage but he looks like a stick figure at this weight. Andric will more than likely try to use his jab to break his 4 fight losing streak. Nichols will want to try and get this to the ground quickly to use his BJJ. I’ll take Andric by TKO.

Lightweight fight between the Muay Thai fighter Sato, and the boxer Sazuki. Sato will have the slight reach advantage. Both fighters have no BJJ, so expect a stand and bang fight in this one. Sato will want to get this fight into the clinch as fast as possible as he has no boxing skills. Sazuki is no slouch in Muay Thai however so Sato will have his hands full. I’ll take Sazuki by TKO.

Welterweight bout between BJJ artist Ripper, and the wrestler Fogerty. Both fighters are built identical. Although Fogerty has better wrestling, Ripper has the better BJJ. Fogerty may want to keep this standing as he also has much better standup game. He may choose to wrestle Ripper down, and carefully pick his shots however. I’ll take Ripper by submission.

Light heavyweight fight between the boxer Liddell, and the experienced BJJ artist Ander. Ander will have the slight reach advantage. Everyone knows what to expect when you watch a Liddell fight, punches in bunches. I almost feel sorry for Ander has he has no boxing skills. If he doesn’t get this to the ground in a hurry this one will be over quick. I’m picking Liddell by TKO.

Welterweight fight between the amazing ground fighter Roman, and the black belt BJJ artist Nayama. Both fighters are built similar. Roman looking to move up to title contender with a win here. He will have his hands full as Nayama has an all-around game. Look for Roman to try and take this to the ground quickly with his great wrestling/strength. He must not get too carried away with the ground n pound or he will get caught by the slick BJJ of Nayama. This should be a good one, but there’s got to be a winner. I’m picking Roman by decision.

Lightweight fight between two ground specialists in Bruens and Jones. Jones will have the slight reach advantage. Bruens has the slightly better standup game, but let’s be honest; both these fighters want to impose their will on the ground. Both are brown belts in BJJ and both are outstanding wrestlers. It will come down to who wants it more it looks like. I’ll take Bruens based on experience alone.

Bantamweight fight between well rounded, outstanding boxers in Jahn and Short. Jahn will have a very slight reach advantage. Jahn will be looking to stay in title contention with a win here. Although Short has the slight wrestling advantage, both fighters have purple belts in BJJ. Both fighters in fact are extremely similar in fighting styles, both prefer to stand and use their hands. Both fighters have heavy hands as well, so expect a KO/TKO in this one. I’m going with Jahn.

Super heavyweight bout between the undefeated wrestler El, and the well-rounded fighter in Heisenberg. Heisenberg will have an advantage in reach, as well as the standup game in general. El has no interest in standing and banging and it shows. El will be looking to get Heisenberg to the ground quickly, but Heisenberg isn’t an easy takedown. Both fighters are even in the BJJ game. A win here for El could mean a title shot at Simon Bruce, so you know he will be motivated. Heisenberg looked a bit exhausted in his interview; he might come into this fight a bit over trained. I’m going to take El by TKO.

The main event for this card will be a light heavyweight title fight. The challenger, Johnson, will come in at 6-2 with 5 coming by way to TKO/KO. He is a wonderful boxer and MT fighter with a good ground game. The champion, Karlsson, will have much more experience coming in with a record of 16-5, 13 wins by way of submission. He is a black belt in BJJ, and a good boxer. Both fighters are pretty much built identical. If this fight goes to the ground, watch out for Karlsson’s lethal armbar. Johnson will be looking to stand and bang and is very good at mixing it up. If he does go to the ground, he has a purple belt in BJJ, but he will want to try and get to his feet quickly. I’m picking the challenger by decision.
