HMMA 105 preview

Event Preview: HMMA 105 Laputa v England
HEROIC
2013-09-01, London, Knights Court
Author:

Hello fight fans its me “Sunshine” Weston Markson once again joined by Rudy “The Box” Knife,  we are here in the HMMA studio once again to bring you a fight night preview.  HMMA 105 is a huge event as we invade the Knights Court in London where we expect around 18000 screaming fans.  HMMA 105 has a ton of good fights with almost every fight involving ranked fighters after this event the a lot of divisions landscape could change.

Rudy:  I think its an understatement to say this is going to be a great card, there are several fights that could determine the next number once contenders, although nothing is set in stone so you never know.  I think there will be a lot of talk after this event about how great it turns out to be so everyone check it out live on PPV or come to the arena.

MAIN EVENT

#5 "Turk" John England (25-10)  v #3 Kirk Laputa (20-5)

Weston:  The main event of HMMA 105; a heavyweight clash between 3rd ranked Kirk Laputa and 5th ranked John England.  This fight is sure to bring you excitement and tension you couldn’t cut with a diamond.  These two fighters are going to be trying to take each others head off, and with the rumors floating around that the winner is most likely the next title challenger shits gon get crazy!  Laputa is on a hell of a run having won 6 straight including 3 straight in HMMA so far he is unbeaten in HMMA and so is his opponent John England, England has had only one fight in HMMA but in typical England fashion it was exciting and fun to watch, he came in with a lot of hype and many thinking he could be  a contender.  Now he gets to test that and see if he is truly a contender.  This is going to be an excellent fight and I cant wait to see what happens.

Rudy:  Wow whoever thought this fight up really wanted to see a knockout.  I like it remind me to thank whoever is responsible.  These two guys are simply KO artist, England has never won a fight by anything other then (T)KO a perfect 25 for 25.  Laputa has won 16 out of his 20 by (T)KO.   Neither of these guys have ever attempted a takedown so lets just go ahead and throw the ground game out of the equation here.  We are going to see a brutal on the edge of your seat sitting standup battle.  Either man could score a knockout at any moment, England swings for the fences with every punch he only averages around 10 strikes thrown per fight and lands around 40%, the low average is because he ends fights quick if he hits you there is a good chance your going out.  He hasn’t shown much versatility with his strikes just works to outbox his opponents, Laputa however is much more accurate and versatile in his strikes.  Laputa does his best work from the clinch landing over 80% of his punches,  and using his Muy Thai to work his opposition over with knee’s and elbows.  Expect Laputa to work for the clinch and England to try and counter him on the way in.

Prediction:  I predict a knockout don’t know who just whoever lands flush first.

CO-MAIN EVENT

#5 Malcolm Marshall (11-0)  v  #2 Kenny Floor Jan (25-8)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN EVENT of HMMA 105 is a big time Lightweight fight between the 2nd ranked Kenny Floor Jan, and the 5th ranked Malcolm Marshall right now the LW division’s #1 contender is up for grabs, I have heard that after this weekend it will be decided, an impressive win here for either of these guys will go a long way in determining the next challenger.  Kenny comes into this fight having just lost a majority decision to the champion, because of that close and controversial decision it was decided he would remain ranked 2nd I know Kenny wants another shot at the champion and thinks next time he will win.  Marshall has never lost a perfect 11-0 when he was brought into HMMA he was thought of as a possible contender in the distant future, but quick improvement has led him to where he is now contender status much sooner then anyone expected, cut can he take the next step into the truly elite or will Floor Jan derail the hype train just as its beginning to pick up steam?

Rudy:  What a great fight, the man who came soo close to beating the champ and the fastest rising star of the division, #1 contenders status up in the air I think we can expect some great action from both fighters.  Marshall is an elite striker his world class boxing and Muy Thai have been his secret to the success he has had, he lands at a very high percentage nearly 70% of his total strikes land, and he has stellar power in the strikes.  8 of his 11 wins have been by (T) KO, he tends to pick his adversary apart with leg kicks, and head punches, eventually he overwhelms them and they fall.  Floor Jan is a very talented versatile fighter, he has a good ground game when he can get the fight to the ground, he mixes up his strikes very well, and in the clinch does his best standup.  I think this fight will be decided in the clinch, I believe both fighters will look to take the fight there maybe to steal rounds, Floor Jan is the more well-rounded offensive fighter and if using all aspects of MMA could be his best chance to win.  With a 70% finish rate between the two fighters I expect this one wont go to a decision.

Prediction:  I think if Floor Jan can ground Marshall and tire him out he wins, if not Marshall wins.

MAIN CARD

#3 Zoran Miloshevich (25-10)  v  #10 "The Lucid Nightmare" Kuma Nelson (15-1)

Weston:  The last fight heading into the main events is a light-heavyweight showdown between potential #1 contender and 3rd ranked Zoran Miloshevich and debuting Kuma Nelson.  Going 3-1 so far in HMMA Zoran Miloshevich has surprised many and turned heads.  On the brink of earning a title shot he gets the task of welcoming hot prospect and 10th ranked Kuma Nelson to the HMMA cage.  Nelson comes in having won 6 straight fights and with a ton of hype and expectation of being a future contender.  If he manages to knock off Zoran in his debut he will do the same thing Miloshevich has done so far surprising everyone and building a reputation as a contender.

Rudy:  I love both of these guys, Zoran is ultra exciting,  and Nelson as well, these two matchup so well and damn I just want to see this fight already.  These two are very similar, their skills, their KO power, their accuracy, they both land their highest percentage in the clinch, we could potentially see the fight be decided in who wins those clinch battles, one thing to look for there is when in the clinch Zoran usually drops down for a takedown at some point.  I expect this to be a back and forth standup battle.

Prediction:  I think Zoran wins a decision.

Johnny "Handsome" Turk (24-14) v #8 Gun Slinga (15-8)

Weston:  The next fight on the card is a heavyweight fight between Johnny Turk, and 8th ranked Gun Slinga.  Turk comes into this fight on the verge of being ranked in the top 10 with 3 straight wins you could say he is the 11th man in the division, many have been surprised by Turk’s resurgence after his first two fights in HMMA he was left with 3 straight losses, and the pundits were announcing his days as  contender over…..hold on! Turk has won 3 straight fights and with a 4th straight over Gun Slinga he could jump right into the mix as one of the top dogs in the division.  Gun slinga we last saw on the losing end of a great fight with the main in the main event Kirk Laputa.  Slinga is always on the brink of title contention but it seems everytime he is one or two wins away he manages to come up short.  Non the less he doesn’t give up and continues to pursue his dream of being a HMMA champion.

Rudy:  What a great fight, two guys who love to pursue the knockout, the two combine for over 80% of their wins coming by way of knockout I think we can expect a great battle Slinga is the more skilled and accurate striker landing over 60% of all strikes except for punches to the body.  Both fighters do something the other fighter does not do, Slinga takes the fight to the clinch and has good success there,  while Turk if overwhelmed on his feet will take the fight to the ground and pursue the knockout or submission there.  This fight could get even more interesting if both men come out and mix it up and try the unexpected.

Prediction:  I think Slinga takes this one

#6 Kaka Pheu Pheu (11-3-1)  v #7  "Hellbent" Roger Dunowevil (21-10)

Weston:  The next fight is a light-heavyweight fight between former champion Kaka Pheu Pheu, and 7th ranked Roger Dunowevil.  After winning his first HMMA title KPP found himself losing two straight fights, looking to put the losing streak behind him and get back into contender status KPP takes on Roger Dunowevil who comes into this fight after losing his last one this fight will allow one man to continue being a contender and the other will temporarily drop out of contendership.

Rudy:  These two LHW’s have a lot of potential KPP has already lived up to that potential he is a former champion but I know he wants that title again, Dunowevil could very well be a champion down the road, I think we will see a really good all-around MMA fight here, both guys are well rounded, Dunowevil prefers to strike, and KPP I don’t think has a preference he looks to exploit weaknesses he is a real jack of all trades.  I expect KPP to use his leg kicks to slow down Dunowevil so he can get the fight to the ground, he lands 64% of his leg kicks, Dunowevil lands the same percentage but he throws almost half of what KPP does,  where he excels is using those kicks to set up his boxing, he averages 33 punches per fight and lands right around 60% of those.  Both of these fighters are finishers ending fights without judges 70% of the time will they both look for the kill or will we see a long battle.

Prediction:  I think KPP gets a decision.

#7 Frank "Fast Hands" Reynolds (16-5-2)  v  Vlad Impaler (24-14)

Weston:  The first fight of the main card is a lightweight fight between 7th ranked Frank Reynolds and Vlad Impaler who sits just outside the top 10.  This is the 3rd appearance for Vlad who in his first two alternated wins.  His last fight was a big win that earned him a chance to prove he is a top ten fighter.  Frank Reynolds last fight was a three fight win streak ending loss to Malcolm Marshall.  Frank sits at 3-3 in HMMA but has only lost to guys that have been ranked in the top 5.  Im interested in seeing which guy moves forward here.

Rudy:  I love classic matchups like this one I think this will be an interesting fight, Vlad is a ground beast, and Reynolds is a standup beast.   Vlad attempts almost 7 takedowns per fight, he lands around 32%  When on the ground he uses ground strikes to set up submissions.  He has 11 wins by submission, if Vlad gets the fight to the ground he will hold an advantage over the striker Reynolds, but if he cant waiting for him is a versatile striker, Reynolds can do it all standing, punch, kick, knees, elbows, a good clinch game, infact I think its his clinch game that will be the difference in this fight, Reynolds lands nearly 15 strikes per fight from the clinch but most importantly Impaler struggles to get takedowns from the clinch, I think Reynolds will look to clinch with IMpaler early and wear him out making him carry his weight and eat his punches.

Prediction:  Close fight that is decided by who implements their game plan better.
