OFC 200: Ang vs Turilli II

Event Preview: OFC 200: Ang vs Turilli II

Author:King Justus

Almost 4 years in the making, never has there been so much talent packed in to one show. This mega card features 7 OFC Champions, 5 title fights and a Blockbuster Super Fight. On September 14th, 2013, the world is going to be treated to one of the most incredibly monumental events in Tycoon history. There are a few moments in sports and life when something spectacular happens, and you always remember exactly where you were when it took place. This will be one of those moments.

Main Event Super Fight:
Rodney Ang vs Luca Turilli

2 OFC Champions face off in a rematch of their December 2012 fight, where OFC Middleweight Champion Rodney Ang [32-11-1 (OFC: 19-5-1)] came away with the split-decision victory in a 5 round war. One thing to note is their first fight took place at Light Heavyweight, while this time they’re set for a Middleweight bout. No titles are on the line, but once again the fight is scheduled for 5 rounds. Don’t blink or exit the link because fireworks are bound to take place like it’s the 4th of July.

OFC Light Heavyweight Champion Luca Turilli [16-7-1 (OFC: 7-1-0)] makes his first appearance back in the org since OFC 175: Turilli vs Saraiva II where he defended his title against Gabriel Saraiva [17-5-0 (OFC: 5-2-0)]. Luca is 4-2 in his last 6 fights outside of the OFC and is currently riding a 2 fight win streak going in to this match-up. With slight advantages in Boxing, Muay Thai and Wrestling, it will be very interesting to see where Luca decides the fight to take place. But with 13 wins by (T)KO, I’d imagine he’d like to keep it standing.

OFC Hall of Famer Rodney Ang has pretty much done it all in this sport. But on September 14th he has a chance to accomplish even more. Ang will be looking to join an Elite club of fighters as he goes for his 20th OFC victory, as well as further cement his legacy as one of the all-time P4P greats. He’s been King of the OFC’s Middlweight division for almost 2 years now, going all the way back to OFC 100: Elite and shows no signs of slowing down. The OFC’s longest reigning Champion has been blessed with hands of stone delivering 24 (T)KO’s throughout his career. Does he have the power to make it rain once again? Tune in to find out, the crown is up for grabs.

Co-Main Event Welterweight Title Fight:
Matt Spartan vs Pawel Wisniewski

In the Co-Main event of the evening, OFC Welterweight Champion Matt Spartan [27-15-0 (OFC: 5-1-0)] looks to defend his title for the 3rd time against the impressive OFC newcomer Pawel Wisniewski [17-7-0 (OFC: 1-0-0)]. Spartan has been knocking people out left and right since starting his current 5 fight win streak and has tallied up 21 (T)KO victories in his career. Once again Spartan seems to have the advantage in the Boxing department, even though the clinch game could be risky for him, and going to the ground with Wisniewski could prove to be even more dangerous. Wisniewski is a Black Belt with Sensational wrestling, so it would only make sense that his gameplan would be to take Spartan down and go for a limb. We could be in for quite an intriguing grappling contest, that is of course, if Spartan doesn’t knock him out first.

Heavyweight Title Fight:
Adamh Pearse vs Quintus Daedalus

In a battle of the big boys, OFC Heavyweight Champion Adamh Pearse [25-11-0 (OFC: 1-0-0)] will look to defend his title for the first time against Quintus Daedalus [20-7-0 (OFC: 1-0-0)], since becoming Champion at OFC 195: Mann vs Pearse. Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to where exactly this fight will take place. Pearse is a monster standing with 16 (T)KO’s to his name, but will be out of his element if the fight goes to the ground. Daedalus is a BJJ Blackbelt with a serious submission game, racking off 12 Submission victories in his MMA career. Because of this, it’s all going to come down to wrestling. Both fighters are Sensational wrestlers, so expect to see a grueling effort from both men when it comes to takedowns and stopping the takedowns. With the Gold on the line, it’s really going to come down to who wants it more.

Lightweight Title Fight:
Elias Virtanen vs Pawel Ufcowski jr

Time for the light weights to put on a show! OFC Lightweight Champion Elias Virtanen [25-11-1 (OFC: 5-0-0)] looks to defend his title for the 4th consecutive time against the Polish perennial contender Pawel Ufcowski jr [23-8-1 (OFC: 1-0-0)]. Pawel is currently enjoying a 4 fight win streak and earned himself the title shot with his hard fought split decision OFC debut victory over the always tough Charles Cozad [14-10-2 (OFC: 3-2-2)]. Virtanen meanwhile, hasn’t quite found the same recent success lately that Pawel has. Elias is currently on a 3 fight skid, since fighting in other promotions while contenders rise in the OFC. With 16 career decision victories under his belt, Elias always manages to come back and find a way to win. Pawel is definitely not looking to leave it in the hands of the judges. With 10 Submission wins already, don’t be surprised to see Pawel pull off another one en route to becoming the new OFC Lightweight Champion.

Bantamweight Title Fight:
Frank Dux vs Justus Sheehan Jr

In an anticipated rematch, two of the speediest fighters step up to the big stage. OFC Bantamweight Champion Frank Dux [13-3-0 (OFC: 4-0-0)] aims to defend his title for a 2nd time against the crafty striker Justus Sheehan Jr [11-3-0 (OFC: 10-3-0)]. In their first fight Dux came away with the victory, taking the fight to the floor and winning by way of a Kneebar submission. It’s no secret that Frank hopes to put on a repeat performance in order to retain his title. Justus has different hopes however. Since their first meeting, Justus has put together a 3 fight winning streak and is as determined as ever to have the gold put around his waist. If unsuccessful in his title bid, Sheehan Jr may have to find a new division to call home, as having two losses to Dux would make it extremely difficult to warrant another title shot. In the short time the division has been around in the OFC, Dux is poised to become its most dominant Champion. Will he continue on his path to greatness or will his dreams be crushed by a new Bantamweight King.

Featherweight Title Fight :
Genki Dama vs Corey Haim

In the first title fight of the night, OFC Featherweight Champion Genki Dama [25-13-0 (OFC: 9-4-0)] returns for the first time since OFC 163: Gibson vs Jones II, to defend his title against OFC Hall of Famer and Former Champion Corey Haim [26-18-0 (OFC: 23-16-0)]. This is a rematch of their OFC 142 matchup that Genki dominated from start to finish. Fighting through a string of tough losses, Dama is hopeful that returning to the OFC can help him return to his winning ways. Genki has the tools to do so, but the constant high level of his opponents doesn’t always make it easy. He has 18 Decision victories to his credit, so maybe Dama doesn’t mind getting the full workout in, although I’m sure he’d like for things to finish a little more quickly. On the other side of the table, this fight is really Do or Die for Haim. He’s made it public knowledge that with a loss at OFC 200, he will be looking to hang up his gloves. Haim’s 1st Official MMA bout took place at OFC 1: The Jump Off and the fact that he’s been able to stand the test of time, has always made him a fan favorite. With the 3 time OFC Champion’s career hanging in the balance, expect emotions to be running high for both fighters, as well as the fans.

Preliminary Card: Hard hitting Heavyweight Yrjo Jarvinen [27-16-0 (OFC: 1-2-0)] takes on the always resilient Jack Frazier [21-17-0 (OFC: 1-1-0)]. Riding a 5 fight win streak Mantis Toboggan [15-7-0 (OFC: 2-0-0)] goes up against a Montreal Legend and veteran of the sport Jose Oquendo [26-11-1 (OFC: 1-1-0)]. Heavy Handed Mick Lenny [25-20-0 (OFC: 1-4-0)] goes to war with former OFC title challenger Bam Margera [17-8-0 (OFC: 17-8-0)]. And starting the night off right, the Evil Resident Chris Redfield [9-3-0 (OFC: 7-3-0)] goes toe to toe with OFC newcomer Jon Snow [12-7-0 (OFC: 1-0-0)].
