Exciting vs Effective

Editorial by

One of the many problems facing new, and up-and-coming fighters is should they go for flashy highlight reel knockouts and submissions or stick to a solid game plan that insures a win. Lets take a look at the pros and cons of each.

Exciting. Obviously with an exciting reckless style you are going to have plenty of fans and add some nice highlights to your film, however with this runs several risks. If a fighter goes in guns blazing looking specifically for a flashy move he runs the risk of getting put on his opponents highlight reel himself or getting out worked by a fighter with a better game plan and more patience. Fighters want to entertain the fans but should it come at the risk of winning the fight.

Effective. Effective fighters know that a good game plan and patience will serve them well and in all likelihood get them the win. However many fans feel this style can sometimes be boring. So you can win the fight but not get as many fans had you gone for something a little more aesthetically pleasing to the crowd. You can build up a slew of solid wins but if you don't have the fans support you will always be stuck in the middle of the card.

Obviously the goal of every fighter is to find the happy medium between the two. Entertain the fans and win. This is much more difficult then it sounds however so just stick to what you are good at plan things out and the spectacular wins will come in time and so will the fans.
