BFT - 241: Chelios vs Sakara Review

Lightweight - 44 BFT fight vet and one time title challenger Suchart "Fishbowl" Chaowanungkarn Unanimous Decisioned 29 BFT fight vet and also one time title challenger "Douser" Johnny Woo.

Woo started things off by clinching up, but it was "Fishbowl" who toke the initiative. He threw some nice shots before Johnny Woo decided to pull gaurd. Woo was looking for some nice submissions, while Chaowanungkarn was moving around and landing some solid punches. Woo was able to get up off the ground, and decided to clinch things up again. Suchart was doing well there and Woo went to pull gaurd once again. It was more of Chaowanungkarn's groundwork for submission work. Round two got started and, after taking a bit of a beating at the distance, Woo was able to get a takedown. The ground work here wasn't the best, but Suchart was able to work his way to full mount. The ref stood them up and Woo took the fight back to the clinch. Suchart took control in the clich once more, and brought it to Woo. Woo was hell bent on taking the fight to the clinch and did it again. Woo pulled gaurd again and "Fishbowl" had it under control still. Suchart was able to ride the fight out both at the distance and on the ground, where Woo had some last ditch efforts at submitting Chaowanungkarn.

What's next for "Fishbowl"?  He has 5 row wins, it's hard not to thing about a title shot coming up. I'd keep my eye on Atsushi-Sasiprapa if I were him. Otherwise, Bonhomme Sept Heures, a new BFT acquisation from RCS, looks like he could be a good match for "Fishbowl".

Light Heavyweight - Former BFC Middleweight Champion, Russia's Trinidad Suarez forced 3 time BFT Bonus winner, Egypt's Master Enki into submission from strikes at 3:59 in round 2.

The fight started off with Enki and Suarez trading blows and trying to establish dominance. Enki made the first big move taking the fight to the mats. Enki was trying to bring it, but Suarez was doing a good job neutralizing his offence. At the distance, Suarez was able to keep Enki away. Suarez dove down for a takedown and was able to ride out the round. It wasn't the way he would have liked, however, since Enki was able to get mount. Enki started off doing well in round 2 on the feet, and then took the fight to the mats. He was really riding the lightning, landing some solid punches and Enki had no response for them. A big shot to the head really got to Enki and he tapped out from the pain.

What's next for Suarez? He's already got a fight booked, so we'll have to wait and see who it is. I have faith that it will be either Ben Stien or Floyd Pacquiao.

Heavyweight - With 12 finishes in 12 victories, "The Warmaster" Josh Barnett submit the former BFT Heavyweight Champion Steve "The Tank" Tompkins with a triangle choke at 1:50 of round 2.

Tompkins exuded confidence immediately when be put Barnett on his back. The two of them were struggling to maintain a dominant position. Tompkins was looking to knock out Barnett, and Barnett was looking for a way to send Steve to the hospital. They stood up briefly, but Tompkins brought the fight back to the mats. The two continued their grappling match until the round ended. The second round got under way with another Steve Tompkins takedown. Barnett was going for submission after submission until he managed sink in a triangle. He worked on it for a lengthy period of time before it all got tight around his neck and Tompkins tapped out.

What's next for Josh? He's only got 3 losses to his name, one of which already avenged, so I'd say options are available. A win against Gunnar Nelson, who just drew with the champ a month ago, would make a huge impact. If not that, he could try to go for a rematch with Joe Kimura. Their last match only went 18 seconds, and I would like to see how it would play out over a longer period of time.

Co-Main - Heavyweight - 10 submissions in 11 victories, Joe "Armbar" Kimura submit "Demolition Man" Alistair Overeem, who has knocked out everyone in victory, with an americana at 1:33 in round 2.

Overeem started really agressive on the feet. He was landing some solid shots and was even able to cut open Kimura with a solid combination. Alistair was really hitting a hard. He even brought things into the clinch and landed some nice shots there. The second round went underway and Overeem was still working well at the distance. Kimura was able to get the takedown a little into the round and went right for the americana. Kimura got it and might have gotten some with one of the ring girls ;D.

What's next for the submission specialist in Joe Kimura? As mentioned before, the Josh Barnett rematch seems like it would be a great fight to see. If he's looking for another match-up, I think Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira would be great match-up. Out of 24 victories, they have a combined 20 submission finishes. That'd be a hell of grappling match.

Main Event - Middleweight Title! - The former Boomerang Lightweight and Welterweight champion and current BFT Middleweight Champion Chev Chelios KO'ed recently broken 4 fight winning streak Legionarvis "Apocolyptic" Sakara with a Superman Punch (!) at 4:13 in round 2 for his 3rd title defence.

Things blew up at the distance right away. Chev Chelios was looking on top of his game. He was able to land a solid combination that cut Sakara open within the first minute of the fight. Sakara was able to land some solid shots of his own, but Chelios was showing up with some nice kicks to go with his punches. Even in the clinch, he was able to land some super shots. In round 2, he just kept on him until a solid 1-2 knocked down Sakara. He threw a great leg kick, and used the momentum to land a great superman punch that knocked Sakara out cold.

What's next for the champ? Well, Antoine Wallace has looked good since dropping down to 185. He had a couple of good shots at the 205 shot, but his last title shot at 185 was at BFT - 72. If Amir Khan beats Hermio Junior, I could argue that he deserves a title shot.

Undercard:

185 - Antoine "A-Train" Wallace - TKO3 - Keiji "Mach" Numa
205 - Richie Yang - UD - Jakub "Handvice" Kochanowski
155 - "Snoopy" Hettie Kate - KO2 - Juarez "El Nino" Del Fuago
170 - Blake "The Great" Axe - UD - Renee "The Ragin' Cajun" Mondeux
170 - Buster Cherry - SUB1 - Robin "The Sniper" Godbeard
