Heroic 129 preview.

Event Preview: HEROIC 129 Nixon v Stormcrow
HEROIC
2014-01-04, London, Wombley Arena
Author:

Hello everyone its me “Sunshine” Weston Markson, along with mi partner Rudy “The Box” Knife.  Yea we are here in the Heroic studio to talk about Saturday’s Heroic 129 from the Wombley Arena in London.  This thing is going to be live on PPV where hundreds of thousands of fans will witness the action at home on their TV’s, and over 90,000 in person at the arena.  Its going to be a great night headlined by a welterweight title fight.

Rudy:  There is a lot of Welterweight action in this one,  6 out of the 10 fights feature welterweights….where does this sound familiar, anyway the welterweights will take center stage in a big night that will have a lot of shifting in the ranks.

MAIN EVENT

#3 Richard "The Lion" Nixon (29-9) v  #C/1 P4P #3 Bowser Stormcrow   (17-1)       170 lbs title

Weston:  The main event of Heroic 129 is a the welterweight title fight between champion Bowser Stormcrow, and the challenger Richard Nixon.  Nixon is no stranger to either the champion nor the title, Nixon won the title back in July before losing it in his next bout, after that he worked his way back into contention and fought then champion Bowser Stormcrow.  Stormcrow dominated on his way to a decision win.  Now Nixon had done it again working his way back to the top and earning another shot at the champion.  Since joining Heroic Stormcrow has looked ultra impressive having won all 5 of his fights if there is any knock on him at all its that 4 of those wins came by decision.  This fight Stormcrow will look to do what he couldn’t in the last fight and finish Nixon, the question is will Nixon survive and steal a win in the process or will the youngest WW champ since John Saunders prove he is still evolving as a mixed martial artist?

Rudy:  Yo son I think I got crème when this fight was announced.   Two great welterweights hook up in a rematch of one of last year’s most anticipated bouts.  Stormcrow gets stronger and stronger every time we see him in the cage, his striking accuracy is still improving, as it needs to he currently lands around 50% of strikes thrown.  Nixon is a more accurate striker landing over 70% of leg kicks, and over 60% of head punches.    Nixon also appears to have more power so don’t count him out of this fight, but what Stormcrow brings to the table is an unmatchable desire to be the best, and instinct.  This will be a great fight and I actually think we could be seeing the FOTN in the main event.

Prediction:  Stormcrow by decision

CO-MAIN EVENT

#2 P4P #6 Jay Hunter  (23-10) v  #4 "The Hawk" Sven Dufva (16-5)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN EVENT is for all intents and purposes a welterweight #1 contenders bout.  Jay Hunter comes into this actually ranked as the 2nd best Welterweight in Heroic, and 6th best fighter P4P in Heroic.  Sven Dufva Is the 4th ranked Welterweight and a bit of an underdog going into this fight, but "The Hawk" has won 6 out of his last 7 fights, Dufva has made it to the top before twice having challenged for the title in Heroic.  At 0-2 Dufva would love the opportunity to get another chance at a championship and this time bring it home.  Another fighter who wants another chance at the title is Jay Hunter who has also won 6 out of his last 7 fights.  Hunter is possibly one of the most underrated welterweights in the world.  I think This will be a wonderful fight that will test both men before moving on to the next task at hand.

Rudy:  Expect an all out war, these two know a lot is on the line and I think we are going to see them both leave everything they have in the cage, I believe we will see a full array of MMA in this fight, both of these fighters are well versed in all aspects of MMA but they both love the ground, Hunter attempts an average of 10 takedowns per fight!, and Dufva 2.5 takedown attempts per fight.  I think both men will come out and test each other standing, whoever is getting the worse of the exchanges will change it up and shoot in for the takedown.   I believe Hunter has the advantage on the ground and Durfva standing but I have been wrong a time or too, I cant wait to see how this one plays out.

Prediction:  UPSET ALERT I think Dufva takes it by (T)KO.

MAIN CARD

Nahka "The Jau Rocha" Vitonen (28-16) v  #9 "The Dominator" Trent Pope (34-14)

Weston:   The last fight on the main card is a heavyweight battle between Trent Pope, and Nahka Vitonen.  Last time we saw Nahka he was earning his first victory inside Heroic sitting at 1-2 overall is a little misleading because Nahka is better than his record may indicate, his level of competition in Heroic has been crazy, fighting the former long time champion Shane Luger, and current undefeated heavyweight kingpin Marko Kersikov.  If Nahka can manage to get a win over “The Dominator” fans will start to see he is a contender in the crowded heavyweight division.  If Trent Pope has anything to say about it its himself who will emerge as the victor and once again reestablish himself as a contender.  Last time we saw Pope he was one win away from a #1 contenders bout for the one thing he has dreamed about since stepping foot in Heroic, a coveted opportunity at the heavyweight title.  For Pope it was disappointment when he came up short after getting (T)KOed in the first round of the title eliminator bout.  Now Pope looks to return to form against Vitonen, which of these heavyweights will make one last run towards the top of the division?

Rudy: YES! We all know I love a good KO and these two guys bring the knockouts.  Nahka has won 25 of his fights by (T)KO, and Pope 27, that’ combined 52 knockouts!  Woah that’s a lotta concussion.  Whats even more alarming that a knockout is eminent here is both fighters have been prone to getting KOed, Nahka has been KOed 10 times and Pope 7.  When you break this down you see that Vitonen is one of those guys who throws everything he has into every strike, he lands less then 50% in every striking category, Pope on the other hand is a little more accurate he lands in the mid 60%’s on most strikes, this could be an indictor that Pope will land the needed blow first…but then again all it takes is 1 shot from either of these heavyweights and its night night see you in this hospital.

Prediction:   I think Nahka takes this one in a small upset.

#7 Taz Rutten (26-7-1) v  Randy "Bouncy Balls" Marsh (27-20)

Weston:   The next fight on the main card is another welterweight fight between 7th ranked Taz Rutten, and Randy Marsh.  Marsh was once looking like a serious contender in the division until he suffered 4 straight losses, now on a 2 fight win streak a win over Rutten will give him the chance to get back in the top 10.  Rutten came into Heroic with style, winning his first two fights by knockout and looking like a serious threat to Bowser Stormcrow’s title, then came Jay Hunter who was able to outpoint Rutten and send him back a little in the rankings.  Rutten’s next fight was an important one against Richard Nixon, Nixon won a close majority decision and as we all know earned a title shot.  Now on a 2 fight losing streak Rutten looks to get back on track against the surging Randy Marsh.

Rudy:  These two are both always exciting to watch, Marsh has one of the best ground games Heroic has ever seen, and a pretty good standup game as well, Rutten has one of the best overall games the welterweight division has seen whether is standing, in the clinch or on the ground Rutten is always in the fight.  I suspect Rutten will want to keep this fight standing though to avoid Marsh’s elite BJJ and GNP.  I look for him to utilize his kicks, and clinch game while seeking a (T)KO.  Marsh of course will want this fight on the ground where he can use his BJJ and GNP, whats great about this fight is both fighters are finishers, Marsh finishes 75% of his fights, and Rutten over 65%.  Get ready for a good fight I think this one is runner of for FOTN.

“Demolition Man” Alistair Overeem (20-9) v  Bagful “of” Donkeys (18-8)

Weston:  The next fight on the card is a heavyweight title fight with a great story line.  The long awaited debut of former P4P #1 fighter in the world Alistair Overeem against former 3 time Heroic heavyweight champion.  Now recently Fedor Vladimirov underwent a life crisis of some sort changing his name to Bagful Donkey’s   Im not sure what that’s all about but I caught up with the and he had something to say about it, “whether he wants to call himself Fedor Vlaidmirov or Bagful Donkey’s  come Saturday I know I have my hands full against one of the best heavyweights to ever step into a cage.  Its an honor and pleasure but at the end of the night…im coming out on top, im coming for my #1 spot I want it back sooner or later every heavyweight in this division will fall at my feet they may as well just put the title around my waist.”   I don’t think I can say much more I think im just going to let Overeem do the talking.

Rudy:  That’s probably a smart thing actually that may be the smartest thing you have done in your life.  No one wants to hear you talk anyway Weston.  Anyway both of these men are legends which is what makes this fight so awesome.  The other thing that makes it awesome, yea you guessed it KNOCKOUTS!  With 37 combined (T)KO’s and over 80% of their wins coming by way of knockout we know exactly what to expect in this fight.  These two are very evenly matched standing, Overeem lands 75% of his punches to the head, and Donkeys land around 70%.  Both land near 65% of their leg kicks, I think this fight will be decided in the clinch, if Overeem can get fight in the clinch and work Donkeys over he wins the fight by (T)KO or decision.  If Donkeys can keep it at striking range I think he will win by (T)KO.

Prediction:  Donkeys TKO

#8 Maximus Scott (34-16-1)  v  #5 "Peltosaaren Teurastaja"Brutaali Keijo (20-14-2)

Weston:  The first fight on the main card is a welterweight rematch from about two weeks ago that ended in a Draw.  The fight saw back and forth action that led both fans and judges scrambling to determine a winner.  It was Scott’s first fight in Heroic that led to what many people thought was an upset of Brutaali because of his ability to dictate where the fight took place, but when it was all said and done a bitter taste entered both fighters mouth as a draw was announced.

Rudy:  Lets not forget how amazing this fight was, this fight could easily win FOTY it was an easy pick for FOTN.  I expect this fight to play out much like the first, Scott will use his 40% takedowns success to dictate where the fight takes place.  What I think will be different is I expect both fighters to push harder to get the finish and leave everything they have in the cage.  One can only hope these two steal the show as they did last time they met.

Prediction:  I think Keijo takes it this time around by decision.
