UPF 28: Cormeir vs Michalek is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by Ultimate Pit Fighting on January 12, 2014 at Hayashi's Lounge in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Background

Two titles are up for grabs! Light-heavyweight champion Cain Cormeir and lightweight champion Dark Hunter look to defend their beloved championship belts against dedicated challengers.

(Preliminary Card)

-[Middleweight bout]: Time Bang(n/r) (2-4) vs Juha Kuivanen(n/r) (5-11)

-[Middleweight bout]: Greg Giraldo(n/r) (5-5) vs Estaban Scott(n/r) (0-1)

-[Heavyweight bout]: Damian Grabowski(n/r) (3-6-1) vs Mike Balrog(8) (1-0)

-[Lightweight bout]: Brian McCarthy(4) (2-3) vs Alex Gonzales(n/r) (2-4)

-[Middleweight bout]: James Van Der Sluijs(4) (5-2) vs Biggie Shackleton(7) (4-4)

-[Heavyweight bout]: Sean Coleman(5) (5-2) vs Ben Breeze(n/r) (3-2)

(Main Card)

-[Heavyweight bout]: Vinny Ruggiero(6 lhw) (6-6) vs Ryan Starner(9) (6-4)

-[Preview]: Former RFC heavyweight champion Vinny Ruggiero is among the most promising veterans to grace the UPF franchise. However, he has struggled to string together victories. At light-heavyweight he defeated Lews Therin Telamon but then he moved back up to heavyweight to accept a shot at the title. Tigellinus Satanae bested him in the clinch and Vinny found himself back in line with the rest. After suffering a devastating loss at the hands of Mickey Wilson, he desperately needs a win here. Ryan Starner climbed the rankings with two impressive knockout victories before suffering two consecutive losses. Much like Ruggiero, Starner really needs a victory to get himself back into relevancy.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Arne Kjolby(3) (3-1) vs George McFly(7) (4-2)

-[Preview]: Arne Kjolby is a premier heavyweight striker that has quietly knocked out opponent after opponent. In George McFly he faces an elite clinch fighter that will look to drive him against the cage and pound him to the face and body.

-[Lightweight Championship bout]: Dark Hunter(c) (5-0) vs Sho Goon(2) (9-6)

-[Preview]: Undefeated champion Dark Hunter has climbed his way to the top of the lightweight heap using his quick and brutal boxing. He is truly a finisher with knockout victories in each of his professional fights. His victories over Zeus Jupiter, Greg Giraldo, and Stacee Jaxee were flawless.

He will be attempting to defend his title for the first time against the experienced submission wrestler Sho Goon. Sho Goon, in his most recent outing, submitted fellow submission fighter Zeus Jupiter.

-[Light-heavyweight Championship bout]: Cain Cormeir(c) (9-4) vs Milan Michalek(1) (8-4)

-[Preview]: The light-heavyweight king of ground and pound returns to take on his toughest challenge to date as he faces Milan Michalek. We find ourselves in a rare situation as both the champion and the challenger are on four fight win streaks with three of those wins coming inside of UPF for each of them. Cormeir put his name on the map when he finished former champion Sal Langreck in the first round. He followed it up by claiming the crown in a hard fought battle with Maxwell Price. Cormeir solidified his hold over the title when he defended it against fellow wrestler Lews Therin Telamon.

Milan Michalek has followed a similar path to the crown; after putting his name on the map by knocking out fellow striker Dark Deeds, he became the third man to best former champion Sal Langreck. In his next fight, Milan Michalek followed the champion's footsteps when he faced former champion Maxwell Price. Unlike Cormeir, Michalek needed only one round to dispatch Price.
