WFL 4 Preview by Tony Rossi

Event Preview: WFL 4- Rostowski vs Aunor
Warrior Fight League
2014-01-25, Helsinki, Hayashi's Lounge - Helsinki
Author:Josh James

 The Warrior Fight League will be deciding titles for the first time live at the Hayashi Lounge in Helsinki. At WFL-4 Rostowski versus Aunor the WFL will crown there first two champions. In the co main events we will get the first Heavyweight and Featherweight champions. There will a whole array of other great bouts to go with these title fights.

Preliminary Bout Number One- Featherweight Fight

“Super” Smash Brother (1-0) {0-0} versus Sergei Lakov (1-0) {0-0}

Two fighters making their debut in WFL, but they are both coming in with one and zero records from the QFC. Brother is a wonderful boxer and proved his punching power in his only fight with a five second TKO of Richie Hodges. He will want to look for another quick knock out in this fight. Sergei Lakov is more of a standup fighter but he does have a little wrestling as well as a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Lakov should be looking for a takedown so he can look for the submission in this one. I will pick “Super” Smash Brother to win this fight by Knockout in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number Two- Welterweight Fight

Risto Haeyhae (1-1) {0-1} versus Joe “Doe The Joe” Roger (1-0) {0-0}

Risto seems to be over matched at every aspect in this fight. His skills seem to be worse or just barley equal to Roger in this one. If I was Risto I would be looking to outpace Roger, throwing very quick and often strikes. He may also try and gain advantage by changing levels but I am not sure. For the strong Muay Thai striker Roger he will want to just take it to Risto. I would keep it standing and pelt away with kicks, and since he should not fear a takedown that just might be his strategy. If the fight does go to the ground Roger should look to get up and not try to finish from the mat. I am going to pick another first round knockout here and go with Roger.

Preliminary Bout Number Three- Light Heavyweight Fight

Oskar Wysocki (2-0) {1-0} versus Marcelo Aurelio (2-1) {1-1}

Oskar is more of a ground fighter with his superb wrestling and purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but he also has mediocre striking ability. In this matchup I think he will want to stand up and bang, since Marcelo has no striking game at all. Wysocki will dominate this fight if it stays standing and that’s what he should be looking to do. Marcelo Aurelio is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and will do anything to get this fight to the ground. As stated before he has no striking game at all and very little wrestling. He should be aggressive with his takedowns as long as Oskar is not on the hunt for a counter. This will a tuff fight for Aurelio and I will pick Oskar Wysocki to win this by TKO in the third round.

Preliminary Bout Number Four- Light Heavyweight Fight

David “El Toro” Thompson (2-0) {1-0} versus Daniel “The Goat” Bryan (1-0) {0-0}

Thompson is the more refined striker in this fight and should look to make a point of his punching power in this one. Thompson should do much of the same as he has in his first two victories and he could secure a three and zero record. If he could string together a few more wins I could put him near the top of the division. Bryan will be making his WFL debut and will want a quick submission. He will be completely dominated in the striking categories and his ground game is better but not overwhelming to Thompson. He will look for an early takedown and from there will need to be super aggressive with submission attempts so Thompson will not have time to get up. I am going to pick Bryan to win by submission in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number One- Heavyweight Fight

Dorian Llic (1-1) {0-1} versus Shawn Albright (0-1) {0-1}

This fight promises to have a big time knockout. Dorian is a remarkable boxer who has some Muay Thai training behind him as well. He will want to look to get inside but avoid the clinch at all costs. On the inside he will be able to pepper his opponent with some nice combinations, and he should look to mix it up with head and body. Standing across from his is the wonderful Muay Thai striker who has to be upset by his last outing. Albright tapped out with only three seconds left in the fight, and on my score card I had Albright winning thirty to twenty six until the lucky armbar. Albright most likely will be looking for the clinch again in this one and should consider mixing in a few more head shots, as he went to the body to much in my opinion. I think Albright will do a little more head hunting and get the knockout win in the second round.

Main Card Bout Number Two- Heavyweight Fight

Greg “Rubishmen” Joll (3-0) {1-0} versus Alexander “The Great” Dezhnyov (2-0) {1-0}

Joll proved his chin, heart, and submission abilities in his last bout with Shawn Albright. Joll took a beating but just kept moving forward, even with a massive cut on his face. Late in the third round he finally scored a takedown and got the submission victory with only seconds remaining in the fight. Joll should be looking for a takedown earlier in this bout and maybe not take so much damage. Dezhnyov will want to keep this fight standing and try to knock out the hard headed Joll quickly. The competent boxer will obviously have a tuff time as seen in Joll’s fights before. I think Joll keeps on rolling and wins by submission in the second round.

Main Card Bout Number Three- Welterweight Fight

Miguel “The Unstoppable” Augusto (6-3) {1-0} versus Bobby Deckard (4-0) {1-0}

Augusto is a great ground fighter who holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. All six of his wins have come by way of submission. He will be looking to get Deckard to the ground and submit him early. Lucky for Augusto if he cannot get the fight to the ground he is slightly better in the striking game. Bobby Deckard is a wonderful wrestler who holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Three of Deckard’s wins have come by submission but he will have a tuff time getting the submission on a better Jiu Jitsu fighter. Deckard only has a ground game so he will need to take it to the mat, instead of looking for a submission he might want to put the ground and pound into action early. I am going to pick Augusto to win by submission in the first round.

Co-Main Event, Main Card Bout Number Four- Heavyweight Title Fight

“Apu” Kamala Naamahaara (10-5) {1-0} versus Jack “Jackhammer” Vickers (3-0) {2-0}

We have two strikers facing off in the first title fight of the evening. “Apu” has already tasted gold in his career, but after winning the title the company he worked for closed up. Since that title win the Muay Thai striker is five and five as it would seem he has had a run of bad luck. In this bout he will need to get those head kicks going early to keep the distance from the very dangerous boxer. Vickers likes to clinch and in those dirty boxing moments he can do a lot of damage. Vickers is going to want to close the distance as quickly as possible to avoid the high kicks. This is a tuff fight to call but I am going with the underdog and I will pick Jack Vickers to win by knockout in the first round.

Main Event, Main Card Bout Number Five- Featherweight Title Fight

Andrzej “Litwin” Rostowski (12-14) {1-0} versus Terry Aunor (13-4) {1-0}

Rostowski is a proficient wrestler and a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to back up his wrestling pedigree. A veteran to MMA he has had twenty six fights, twelve wins, and ten submission victories. He knows how to put his Jiu Jitsu training to work obviously. He will need to take down Aunor often and early if he wants to become the first WFL Featherweight Champion. Aunor will be competing in his eighteenth fight of his career and will be looking to keep it standing. Out of his thirteen wins he has only five knockouts but he is heavily outmatched on the ground in this bout. The wonderful boxer will want to try and put it away early even though that is not his style, because if these two hit the mat Rostowski will have it in the bag. That is actually exactly what I see happening in this one, as I have Rostowski getting the takedown and submission victory in the first round.

There is a tenth fight currently under contract but I do not want to go into detail about it in case it does not get signed. If it does get signed maybe I can get something up real quick about it, but as of right now this is what I am going with. As for your OTN awards I picked them as follows, Submission of the Night I have Miguel “The Unstoppable” Augusto, Knockout of the Night I will pick Shawn Albright, and for Fight of the Night I will guess Greg “Rubishmen” Joll versus Alexander “The Great” Dezhnyov.
