WFL 7 by Tony Rossi

Event Preview: WFL 7- Aunor vs Hill
Warrior Fight League
2014-02-08, Helsinki, The Underground - Helsinki
Author:Josh James

 Welcome to Warrior Fight League as we present WFL-7 Aunor versus Hill. We have a great line up of fights set for this on February 8th 2014 and we will be at The Underground in Helsinki Finland. I will be looking forward to the Vickers fight, as I will want to see if he can bounce back from his first loss. Obviously the Aunor Hill fight will be something to see as well in this Featherweight showdown.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Adam Kovic (2-0) {0-0} versus Bob "Probie" Probert (1-0) {0-0}

Kovic is a wrestler and submission artist who has won both of his fights by way of submission. Even though Kovic has worked on his boxing he will not want to mix it up standing with Probie. A quick shoot in and an early takedown is what Adam will need. He has a slight advantage in the experience department and he is seven years the elder in this one so his chances are good. The eighteen year old Canadian prospect Bob Probert is a boxing standout. In his only fight Probert scored a victory by TKO in only eighteen seconds and he will look to make short work of Kovic as well. Probert will need to defend some takedowns so I hope he has been working on those in camp. I am going to pick the underdog in this one, as I see Bob Probert winning the fight in the first round by TKO.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Shawn Albright (1-1) {1-1} versus Alexander "The Great” Dezhnyov (3-0) {2-0}

Who has two thumbs and is a big Shawn Albright fan…….This guy. He really should be two and zero but slight lapse in judgment in his first fight cost him the match. He came back with a vengeance to dominate the fight in his last outing. Albright just needs to keep doing what he has been doing and look for the clinch against Alexander The Great. Since Congo’s departure from the WFL Albright now may possess the best clinch here. Alexander has won two out of his three fights by decision and the other by way of TKO. I don’t see him knocking out Albright in this one, but he can out wrestler him. That is what he should look to do, wrestle and control. At all costs stay out of the clinch and he will have a real shot to win this. I am going to pick Albright to knock him off though, and my guess would be a second round TKO victory for Shawn.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Luigi "The Ultimate" Fuze (1-0) {0-0} versus Dorian Ilic (1-2) {0-2}

Fuze will be making his debut to the WFL and he is going to want to make it a memorable one. This wrestler and BJJ practitioner will want to avoid as many strikes as he can, while looking for any opening to take this fight to the ground. I am thinking he will not want to waste any time and go for it immediately in this one. Dorian has had a rough start to his career in the WFL with two straight losses. Both of those losses have come by TKO but I do not think he will have to worry about that in this one. We are going to need to see something from Dorian in this bout other than him hitting the mat. Look for him to come out looking to counter the takedown and only strike when it is open. I honestly do not see hope for Dorian and I am picking Fuze to win by submission in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Patricio Rua (1-0) {0-0} versus "The warmaster" Wan Benming (1-0) {0-0}

I am really excited to see Rua in action. He is a very balanced fighter that can wrestler or strike with anyone in the Lightweight division. He loves to clinch and or kick but the clinch game is what he will want to use in this fight. Benming is a Muay Thai fighter who loves to strike from range. In his only fight he picked up the win by way of submission, but only after dominating his opponent in the standup aspect of the fight for a while. I think he will want to try and get this fight to the ground because I feel Rua is a better striker. I see Rua winning this fight by knockout in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Jack "Jackhammer" Vickers (3-1) {2-1} versus Greg "Rubishman" Joll (3-1) {1-1}

Both of these fighters are coming off losses in their last fight. One a little more high profiled than the other but never the less it feels about the same mentally. I really enjoy Jack Vickers fights and I am hoping he bounces back right away. Vickers is a boxer and was overwhelmed by a Muay Thai striker in his title fight. He will not need to work on his clinch game in this one, but he will need to work on the takedown defense. Joll is a wrestler and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he should look to avoid striking with Vickers. Greg will be looking for any opening to get this fight to the floor and Vickers would not want to be on the ground at all. Joll has never been finished in a fight and Vickers is a knockout guy so I will pick Joll to win this fight by submission in the second round.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

Tormund Giantsbane (13-6) {0-0} versus Andrzej "Litwin" Rostowski (12-15) {1-1}

Giantsbane is looking to turn around his fading career. He was thirteen and four at the beginning of the New Year. Since the New Year Giantsbane has dropped his last two fights and will want to turn it around here in the Warrior Fight League. As long as he can keep this fight standing Tormund will have a great shot at winning this fight. Rostowski has had twelve wins ten of which have come by submission so he will be looking to take Giantsbane down right away. Rostowski is coming off a title fight loss and he will want to bounce back as well. The winner of this fight could propel themselves into the title picture while the loser might drop to the bottom of the Featherweight division.

Co Main Event, Main Card Bout Number 4- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

Anucha Poopha (9-2) {1-0} versus Reinaldo "Animal" Aruba (6-1) {1-0}

Poopha was impressive in his last fight which was against Artair Dostan. The Muay Thai fighter got the win by way of TKO do to knees in the first round. He will want to use the striking game in this fight coming up, but I am not sold that he will want to work from the clinch. In the clinch he will be exposed to a possiable takedown or even guard being pulled against him. If this fight stays standing I am sure Poopha will have his hand raised quickly. Reinaldo Aruba is a wrestler and a submission fighter holding a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has the conditioning to go all three rounds and the ground skills to submit people in the first round. Aruba is an awesome ground fighter and his skills where showcased in his fight against Machin. I like Poopha to get the win in this one all though. I see a late first round TKO from Poopha to climb up on in the ranks of the Featherweight division.

Main Event, Main Card Bout Number 5- Featherweight Fight

Terry Aunor (14-4) {2-0} versus Benny "The Slim" Hill (16-14) {1-0}

I think Aunor has a big advantage in the striking department of this fight. Terry will want to come out and throw leg kicks to slow down the takedown advances of Hill, while mixing in punch combo’s and head kicks. Aunor should look for a knockout since he is facing a wrestle that can rack up points with takedowns. Hill may be a wrestler but that does not guarantee him the win against the striker. Aunor has a very solid ground game as well, and could finish Hill from the ground. Hill is going to need to have a very strong game plan in this fight if he wants to knock off the champ. He should take the fight to the mat and work some ground and pound while being extremely careful. If Aunor lets a limb hang Hill will need to be all over it. I see Aunor getting the win in this one, and my guess will be a TKO in the third round.
