 THROWDOWN 11 REVIEW

Carter Martin defeats Rab Rehab by KO(Strikes) at 2:56 in the first round

This fight seemed to be going in Rehab's favor. He was landing strikes standing up, earned the take down and was controlling most of the action. What his less experienced opponent did was keep his composure and not let any of Rehabs attacks stick. When Martin got the opportunity he reversed position and knocked out Rehab with a powerful shot from Rehab's guard.

Ollie Ritch defeats Huey Freeman by Split Decision

The first round of this fight is where the split in the decision is made. We'll come back to that. The second round was all about Ritch avoiding takedowns, landing his strikes and getting back up the one time he was taken down. He was the clear winner. The third round was Freeman's. He got his takedowns with comparative ease with the rest of the fight and tried hard for submissions. His submissions were all he had though. He never even attempted to strike his opponent on the ground. Now, back to the decisive round. It started off much like the second round. The first half was all Ritch. He was landing strikes and cut open Freeman. The second half was all Freeman. He got his takedown and was very close on a couple of submissions. Maybe it was the cut and striking of Ritch. Maybe it was Freeman's lack of ground strikes. Either way two judges gave it to Ritch.

Alexander Povetkin defeats Arthur Pandora by Unanimous Decision

This fight was really decided by the volume strikes of Povetkin. He wasn't as accurate with his strikes as Pandora was, but he was always moving forward throwing something. Anything. Even if it didn't really make much sense. Pandora wasn't inept in this fight by any measure. Many give him the second round because of his takedown and excellent head movement. He just did not put together enough offense to counterbalance the constant pressure of his opponent.

Randy Slader defeats Charlie Krauthammer by TKO(Punches) at 2:32 in the first round

Slader's punches from the clinch in this short fight were brutal. Krauthammer was game and was throwing leather along with him. Slader was just powerful. Head, body, head, repeat. Krauthammer tried to take it to the ground when he really started to feel the heat, but Slader had nothing of it. The kill shot landed halfway through the first round and that was it. The ref had to step in. Knock out of the night.

Barney Rubble defends the 135lb TITLE by defeating Tyler Brooks by Unanimous Decision

MIXED Martial Arts. Just clarifying that first M in MMA for Tyler Brooks. He was under the impression this was a wrestling match. He went for a whopping 79 takedowns in this fight; was successful with only 4; and couldn't keep Rubble down long when he got them. Meanwhile Rubble was throwing punches and kicks as if he knew they were legal. He landed 100% of his strikes from the clinch and wasn't too shabby from a distance. He put on a striking and takedown defense clinic in this main event. Like Rubble, Brooks also didn't miss on any strikes from the clinch. Granted he didn't throw any (none standing period) but he certainly didn't miss on any. Rubble earned this decision clearly. Brooks can be a good fighter but this fight was not his best showing. Rubble remains atop the 135lb division.

Folgers out.
