Wednesday Warfare X

Event Preview: HONOR Wednesday Warfare X
HONOR Fighting Championship
2014-04-09, Las Vegas, Hayashi's Lounge - Las Vegas
Author:Tony Rossi

I am very excited about this huge event. Some of my favorite HFC stars will be in action tonight like Lord High Executioner and Bobby Shamrock. This promises to be a major event and it could be the best Wednesday Warfare yet. Meet the Future will be the merchandise partner for Wednesday Warfare X and we have two bookmakers hosting odds on this event. They are Barbarian Betting and RISSA bank and betting.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Marek Contofalsky (3-5) {1-1} versus Junior "PittBull" Flores (3-2) {2-2}

To start the night off we have two lightweights that will be trying to get some sort of winning streak going so they can elevate themselves to the main card. Contofalsky is three and five with a HFC record of one and one. He prefers to strike and two of his wins have come via TKO so he will want to keep this fight standing. Flores is three and two and he has had almost all of his fights here in Honor. His Honor record is two and two and all three of his wins have come by TKO. He is also a striker but I just don’t think he has the skill that Contofalsky has so I will be picking Marek to win by TKO in the third round.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Steven "Hecklly" Heck (2-2) {1-2} versus Rusaka "Baraka" Gono (2-0) {0-0}

Heck is trying to turn things around right now. He has lost his last two fights which has dropped his record to just two and two on his career. This twenty six year old is primarily a wrestler and he has a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so I would think he will need to get this fight to the ground. Gono will be making his Honor debut tonight and his current record is two and o. He would love to preserve this undefeated streak and to do so he will need to come up with a great game plan. He is also a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but Heck is a better wrestler and striker. All signs point to Heck winning this fight but I am going to trust my gut and pick Gono to win by decision.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Darek "The Polish Prodigy" Walczak (2-1) {2-1} versus Oscralo "Granalo" De Santiuya (6-5) {3-3}

Walczak is two and one and he has had all of his fights right here in Honor Fighting Championship. He will look to control this fight right from the beginning since his opponenet has the experience advantage. When it comes to skill though I think these two are pretty even so it’s tough to say what his game plan should be. De Santiuya is six and five with a three and three record in HFC. He had a three and two record in HFC before losing his debut at light heavyweight.  I don’t think De Santiuya will get the wins here as I am picking Walczak to win by TKO in the second round. I think Oscralo should consider moving back up to welterweight.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Rickson Bravo (6-5) {1-1} versus Ian "Bronx" Boxhorn (6-3) {0-0}

We have another fighter making their debut to HFC in this fight. Rickson Bravo is not that person as he has a one and one record here and a six and five record overall. Bravo has a good wrestling background and he is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He also has been working on his stand up and he is truly becoming one of the better well rounded guys at welterweight. Boxhorn is the one who will be making their debut. He is more of a striker but he does have a good strong wrestling base. His wrestling is what saved him in a few fights and if he is going to win this one it will save him in this one. I don’t see Boxhorn being able to stop the take down from Bravo so I am picking Rickson to win by submission in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

"Dangerous" Phillip Finnegan (3-2) {3-1} versus Investitor "Cujo" Gradnje (7-1) {5-1}

Now we are starting to get into the fighters that I have grown to love here in Honor. Finnegan is on a three fight win streak after starting his career at o and two. His last three fights have averaged lasting one minute and eleven seconds as he won by submission do to strikes, TKO, and a knockout all very quick. Investitior Gradnje is on a two fight win streak after he took his only loss back in February. All seven of his wins have come by submission which is strange to me since he does not have a good wrestling base and he is only a purple belt in BJJ. Normally I would pick a submission guy over a striker but I just can’t in this one. I am going to take Finnegan to win by TKO but not as early as he will need to survive a ground assault or two. So I got him getting the TKO in the late part of the second round.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

"The Impaler" Vladimir Ignatov (5-2-1) {1-0} versus Bobby "The Next Big Thing" Shamrock (6-2) {2-1}

We are still dealing with fighters that I am a huge fan of in this one. Ignatov has only had one fight here in Honor but there is just something about him that I like. He is a very skilled twenty five year old fighter who can stand and bang with the best at welterweight. He also has a decent ground game so there is little worry there. In the other corner we have one of my all-time favorites in The Next Big Thing Bobby Shamrock. Shamrock is a great wrestler and he has good stand up and a purple belt to go with. Since both of these fighters can stand up and grapple it promises to be a great one, maybe even a classic. I can’t pick against Shamrock so I will take him to win by TKO in the second round, but do not count out The Impaler he could win this fight with ease.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

bj "Boogieman" Ferguson (30-17) {2-2} versus Takeshi Watanabe (8-6) {1-1}

This will be a return fight between Ferguson and Watanabe. Ferguson won that fight by TKO in the third round but I am not sure that will happen again. It was Watanabe’s first fight in Honor and you do have to give some adjustment time. I think Watanabe can turn things around in this fight and I am picking him to win by TKO in the second round. We could see an epic trilogy with these two.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

"The Magician" Ari Birmiski (25-18) {2-0} versus "Nobushi" Mitsuyo Maeda (27-20) {2-0}

Lots of fight experience with these two fighters. Fifty two and thirty eight is their combined records and they are both two and o in Honor. Ari is skilled across the board as he can stand, clinch, wrestle and submit people. He does tend to let the fights go to decision to much and that is his downfall. Maeda is also skilled in the standup but he is not nearly as good as Ari. He will want to get this fight to the ground so he isn’t at such a disadvantage. On the ground he will be able to showcase all of his Jiu Jitsu skills that have earned him a black belt. Maeda also lets fights go to the judges way too much. I will pick Ari since I think this fight is going the full fifth teen minutes and Ari should out score Maeda in the standup.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

"Mr. GO TO SLEEP" Tyler Brooks (22-12) {0-0} versus Vinnie "Danger Zone" Jones (9-2) {0-0}

Brooks just finished up his contract in Sydney and he has made his way to Las Vegas. He is a submission fighter with a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he is one hell of a wrestler. It doesn’t matter who he faces the fight will eventually go to the ground. Jones is nine and two and just like Brooks he will be making his Honor debut. He very similar to Brooks when it comes to the ground game but Brooks is a far better stand up fighter. For that reason he will welcome the fight going to the ground where it is anyone’s game but I think Brooks will still win the fight. I got Brooks winning in the second round via submission.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

"Lord High Executioner" Albert Anastasia (14-4) {2-1} versus Tyrion "The Imp" Lannister (14-5) {0-0}

We get to see LHE back in action after he just fought on Saturday. That is an insane turn around but he was up for it and that just proves how much of a man he really is. Double A will be at a disadvantage on the ground so I hope he has been working on takedown defense in his four days in between fights. To get his second win this week he will need to keep this fight standing. Lannister can almost match LHE’s stand up but why would he want to when he could just win the fight on the ground? I think if he takes it slow and steady he won’t tire himself out and then he will be able to get Double A to the mat. If he gets him down he should be able to win with ease. I want to pick A Doubled in this one but I can’t as I got Lassister winning via submission in the second round.

As I said this is a loaded event and it should be the best Wednesday Warfare we have ever seen. I don’t see to many low marks and the entire main card is huge. Lots of great fighters taking on other great fighters so I hope you can join us, if not there will be a full review of the event in the days to come. I will see you then Honor fans!
