Honor FC 11 Vendetta

Event Review: HONOR FC 11 Vendetta
HONOR Fighting Championship
2014-04-12, Las Vegas, Hard Knocks - Las Vegas
Attendance:3,000, Event Rating:239
Author:Tony Rossi

I don’t know how he keeps on doing it, but he does. Honor FC 11 was a massive success not only in attendance and rating but in match ups as well. HFC has spring boarded into the top thirty because of a wonderful owner in Dan Monk, a great roster of fighters, and most importantly a bunch of wonderful manager. Let’s get down to brass tax and talk about why we are all here, the wonderful fights.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Sun "Kakarot" Wukong defeats Johnny "Brutal" Bedford

I do like Wukong but I figured he had no chance to win this one. Bedford did almost all of the work throughout the fight and he even controlled the ground more effectively. Bedford started to try and work in some ground and pound after a few failed submission attempts and that was the opening Wukong needed. He pulled Bedford down to control him and then he isolated a wrist, from there he was able to lock in a kimura to get the submission win at 3:43 of the 1st round.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Tim Tupy defeats Mica "Zli Covek" Gavric

This would mark the second fight in a row that I picked incorrectly. Tupy hadn’t shown me much in the past and I was not big on him coming into this fight and I am still not big on him. Gavric showed us noting in this fight except five failed takedown attempts. Literally he did nothing else. Tupy threw bombs at an opponent who was doing nothing to avoid them and then he would clinch to get a quick breather. This lasted the entire first round and thankfully for Gavric’s health he was TKO’ed in the early part of round two. Tupy wins by TKO at 0:43 of the 2nd round via TKO do to strikes.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Aj Smith defeats Austin "Hollywood" Worner

I finally get one right and all I can think about is how Worner was able to not get finished. It just dosnt make since that Smith couldn’t put him away. This fight went three rounds and Worner only scored twenty five points on all three of their cards. Smith took the fight to the ground as he pleased and then would just land strikes the entire time. Worner did nothing in the fight successfully while smith was eight for eight in strikes standing up, nine for nine in takedowns, and eighteen for thirty two in ground strikes. Good job to Smith for winning the fight on all three cards thirty to twenty five but the MVP of this fight is Worner’s chin.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

Todd Flanders defeats "Pretty Pete" Peter Parker

I would have been happy being two and two after this fight considering I dropped the ball on the first two but Todd Flanders ruined my plans. Both of these fighters came out looking for a stand up war and they got it for a grueling fifty eight seconds. Flanders seems to be landing the more clean crisp shots and he was throwing more at a higher accuracy rate when he finally stunned Parker.  Parker was able to recover from it but a stiff strait left hand dropped Parker to the mat and Flanders finished up with strikes. The referee stopped the fight and Todd Flanders is declared the winner in 0:58 of the 1st round by TKO do to strikes.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Kshitij Singh Negi defeats "The Wasp" Wayde West

Well my night couldn’t get any worse right? I mean to miss three of the first four fights in not how I usually start off and three to four losses total in my average so that it right? Nope, because the former middleweight champ could not put away a seasoned fighter that just went through a management change. I knew Negi was dangerous but seriously West should have had this fight in the bag. West used a lot of kicks to try and slow Negi down and so he would be able to break the tough clinch but it wasn’t enough. Negi kept getting the fight to the inside where he would land a ton of elbows and he had West bleeding all over the place by the end of the first round. Negi continued his strategy throughout the second round and he kept working over the cut already on West’s face. At 3:23 of the 2nd round the ref stopped the fight to have the cut checked and the doctor ruled the fight to end. Negi is the winner by TKO do to cut doctor stoppage.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

"Knifeman" Brett Riverboat defeats Laz "Flying hollander" Icarus

Well I was able to start the main card off with a win, but I think everyone seen Riverboat had this victory anyway. I was surprised after the flurry that cut or the flurry that put Icarus on his back in the first round was not enough to put him away. Icarus showed great heart just getting up and back into the fight. The second round started and it was three minutes of Riverboat beating down Icarus until he was finally knocked out at 2:59 of the 2nd  round. The official decision Brett Riverboat wins by way of knockout via punch.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Artur "Iceman" Ross defeats Dack Fayden

We go from correct to incorrect pretty quick. I had picked Fayden to win this fight and he did nothing to help his own chances of winning. Ross came out and was more aggressive and he was landing a lot of shots. Fayden missed every counter attack he tried and Ross continued to put a beat down on him. Ross opened up a cut underneath the eye of Fayden and with his sight being messed with due to the blood he was able to start landing head kicks with ease. After a knockdown Ross landed on of those head kicks clean and flush knocking out Fayden at 1:53 of the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

Roy "The Wardog" Pitbull defeats "The Assassin Reborn" Darwin France

This is the point in the event where I started to redeem myself. I got this fight predicted correctly but so did the world. I don’t think anyone gave France a chance to win this fight including myself. Even though France was able to take this fight into the third round he never made me think throughout the entire fight that he could win. Pitbull was as dangerous as ever and he landed more strikes on more attempts standing up, clinching, and while on the ground. Pitbull who doesn’t take fights to the ground was taken down twice but he just turned that into a chance to get in to a better position and hammer away at France. I want to applaud France for surviving so long but in the end Pitbull got the win at 4:14 in the 3rd round by TKO do to strikes.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Kaito "Tsunami" Rin defeats "Mr. GO TO SLEEP" Tyler Brooks

This was not an ease fight for me to pick. I thought it would be a close hard fought fight but it wasn’t. It’s a good thing for me I did pick the correct winner but I cannot believe Rin was able to completely dominate that fight. This one did not spend a lot of time with the opponents standing up as only one punch was thrown while standing. Rin then was three for three on takedowns scoring one in every round. Once Rin would get the submission specialist on the ground  he would start pounding away at him while looking for submissions of his own. These two fighters combined for twenty submission attempts but that is not the big number. The big number is twenty eight, which is the amount of ground strikes landed by Rin throughout the fifth teen minutes this fight took. I was shocked to see Brooks being able to stand when it was over but he was able to congratulate Rin on his win. The fight ended in decision and all three judges scored the fight 30 to 27 for the winner Kaito Rin.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

"Uszol" Rafal Dabrowski defeats "The Bay Harbour Butcher" Dexter Morgan

Well I was able to string together three wins and they were all at the top of the card so I guess I am in the clear but it was still a bad day at the office for me overall. I had Dabrowski winning this fight but I thought it would have been more convincing. At the standup level both these fighters did not do much, but once they would get inside the clinch Dabrowski would be come this punching beast. With punching like that I am surprised that Dabrowski doesn’t throw more at range. All the punches looked powerful and they seemed to take a toll on Morgan as he clearly slowed down towards the end of the fight. He was able to get the fight to the ground on several occasions but Rafal was able to force stand ups almost as easily as Morgan get score takedowns. If Morgan would have been able to do more with one of his many takedowns we would have had a much closer fight in the eyes of the judges. Since he couldn’t Dabrowski was declared the winner by unanimous decision with all three judges scoring the bout 30-27.

That was a great night of fights capped off with a huge rating. Now I heard that the next event will not be this good, but I am sure you guys will end up with an opinion of your own. I have several things to look forward to on the next event card and I will love it, but will you? Join me later today as we break that card down, I will see all of you then.
