Wednesday Warfare XI

Event Preview: HONOR Wednesday Warfare XI
HONOR Fighting Championship
2014-04-16, Las Vegas, Hayashi's Lounge - Las Vegas
Author:Tony Rossi

I am sure Dan had asked you guys to fight and he was having some trouble filling the event and that makes this a special Wednesday Warfare. He did end up pulling off some last minute fights and it includes one of my fighters flying all the way into Las Vegas to personally take on one of Mr. Monk’s fighters. Also a good friend of ours and alliance mate is bringing in one of his fighters to also take on one of Dan’s fighters. So for all the fans Mr. Monk pulled out a ten fight card, and for the deeply invested fans pay close attention to the first two bouts as they will be a little special.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Karl "The Megalomaniac" Stromberg (0-0) {0-0} versus Ayrton "BigFoot" Silva (0-0) {0-0}

Well this is the first of Mr. Monk’s fights and it is against me. It is tough to write a prediction and a fight analysis on your own fighters. With that being said I will say it is unfortunate that Silva is such a high level submission fighter going up against such a stud stand out wrestler. No prediction for this one since it is one of my own.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Jack "The Bottle" Daniels (0-0) {0-0} versus Jon "Hard Fast" Moxley (0-0) {0-0}

This will be Mr. Monk’s second fight against a stable mate. We have sixteen year old Jack Daniels making his debut. He has a good boxing background and not much else to go with it. Obviously his only chance at this fight is keeping it standing which should not be a problem. The reason I say it shouldn’t be a problem is because Jon Moxley is going to want to keep this fight standing as well. He is also making his debut and his background also comes from boxing. 18 to 20 is not a big age difference but 16 to 18 is and that’s why I have to pick Moxley to win this fight by TKO in the second round.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Middleweight Bout (185lbs)

Robert "Chop" Decker (1-2) {0-2} versus Dalton "Black Killer" Ismith (2-1) {2-0}

Decker is one and two and he has been plummeting fast since coming to Honor. He is on a two fight losing streak and the only way he can improve that is by getting into the gym and working on his already great wrestling skills. It’s too bad though he is not currently training anywhere and that is going to make for a short career in MMA. Ismith is the opposite of Decker as he lost his first fight, but since coming to Honor he is two and o. He also works out at a high profile gym and he is becoming a well-rounded fighter. He won’t allow this fight to go to the ground and he will pick up a TKO win in the second round. The better trained and more focused usually come out on top.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Bud "King Of Beers" Weiser (3-4) {2-4} versus Reginald Leslie (4-4) {2-3}

Everyone its no secret I am fan of Weiser but to be honest he needs to get everything figured out in this fight. He has dropped three of his last four and he will need to take this fight to the ground to have a chance. Leslie lost his last two fights by submission and maybe Weiser can make something happen from the ground. Leslie is on a two fight losing streak and he will look to improve by mixing his strikes up well. These fighters are almost even in the stand up and the ground work but I think if it goes to the ground Weiser will win. It is anyone’s guess though and I am guessing Leslie to win by TKO in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Dario "The Killer" Silva (4-3) {3-3} versus Josh "The Chris Bosh" Laston (4-3) {1-1}

It’s nice to see Dario Silva back in action. He got a win in his last outing which broke his three fight losing streak. Now he will need to get a win so he can be on a winning streak and the way he will need to do that will be purely through striking. He does have some wrestling skill but that all better be going to defense in this one. Laston can strike but he is not very good at it. He does have enough skill to no embarrass himself while he looks for an opening to get the fight to the ground. I am certain he will need to get the fight to the ground to pull out the win so he should be more on the counter side of things while these two are on their feet. I got Silva edging this one out in a close battle and I think he gets a third round TKO.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

DeMario "McDojo Blackbelt" Williams (8-3) {3-1} versus Flash "Light" Gordon (3-2) {2-0}

Here is another guy that I am a big fan of, DeMario Williams the former Featherweight Champion. He is currently eight and three and he will be looking to get that ninth win by taking this fight to the ground and doing what he does best, vicious ground and pound. Gordon does have some wrestling but I don’t think it will be enough for him to keep this fight standing. He will need to go for it all and try to knock out Williams before the first take down attempt. I got Gordon losing this fight to Williams in the first round by TKO due to ground and pound.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Lightweight Title Fight (155lbs)

Julius Caesar (5-0) {3-0} versus Oscralo "Granalo" De Santiuya (7-5) {3-3}

This card is just loaded with fighters I like. If you guessed I am a fan of the undefeated Lightweight Champion you would be right. I am so glad to see him back in action and defending his title. Caesar should have an easy time defending his title in this one as he is the better standup fighter and the more skilled ground fighter. I think he should look to keep this fight standing since he is a bit better standing up from his personal skill but he should dominate both. De Santiuya is out matched in this one but he likes to be the underdog. He will try to fire himself up and take everything Caesar has to offer. I don’t think he can go five rounds so he will need to find a way to finish Caesar off. I don’t see that happening and I got Caesar winning by TKO in the second round and retaining his Lightweight Championship.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Oberyn "Steel" Martell (12-6) {1-1} versus Nathan "Elbow" Summers (24-17-1) {1-1}

Both of these guys have a lot of expeirnce and they are both one and one since joining the ranks of Honor Fighting Championship. These guys also have a lot of similarities in there style and skill. It will be hard to pick a winner in this one, and a method but I will give it a shot. Martell is on his seventh manager and that could not be a good thing while Summers is on his third. To caution flags to both of them. Martell is in his prime and has won seventy one percent of his fights. Summers is in the twilight of his career and has a lower winning percentage. I guess the numbers say Martell and I will agree with them. To continue to play the numbers nine of Martell’s twelve wins have come by TKO while Summers has lost thirteen out of seventeen fights by TKO so I will guess Martell gets the TKO victory in the third round.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Khru "Big Buddah" Maokhamphiou (6-1-1) {2-1-1} versus "Dangerous" Phillip Finnegan (4-2) {4-1}

Khru has really turned things around after starting off his Honor career with one loss and one draw he is now up to two one and one. He obviously is on a two fight win streak and both of those wins have come in the first round by TKO or better. He is going to want to strike with Finnegan and I am sure Finnegan will oblige. Finnegan is four and two and he is on a four fight win streak all of which took place right here in Honor Fighting Championship. He will look to continue that streak by relying heavily on his Muay Thai. This should be a striking match up for the ages and the first to land a head kick will most likely win. Its too close to call so I will flip a coin. It came up heads so I am going with the red corner Khru to win by knockout via head kick in the first round.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

James James (10-4) {0-0} versus "Mangeur de bine" Adelard Desormeaux (15-8) {1-1}

This is not as big as some of the main events Dan has been giving to us but it is still a great match up. James should look to keep this fight standing as he is the far better striker. He can certainly handle himself on the ground but why leave things to chance? If he stands and keeps the fight standing then the fight is all his. Desormeaux can certainly stand up and bang but he is outmatched and outclassed here. He should look to engage a clinch while standing up to reduce the damage he will take and to have the ability to pull guard if he needs to. Mangeur can win this fight on the ground but not standing up and I don’t think he gets the fight to the ground so I am picking James to win by TKO in the first round.

Well that will wrap this one up and I cannot wait to see the big event. Join me next time when we review Wednesday Warfare XI in the next day or so.
