Barbarian FC 14

Event Preview: Barbarian FC 14
Barbarian Fight Club (ID 230K+)
2014-04-26, Rio de Janeiro, Hard Knocks - Rio
Author:Tony Rossi

We have a huge event lined up for you and it will feature a title defense from the Heavyweight Champion. Some of our Barbarian Fight Club favorites will be in action leading up to the title fight and I have high expectations for this event. Let’s get right on in to it shall we?

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Renan Santos (1-0) {0-0} versus "Happy Face" Big J Smiles (0-0) {0-0}

Santos is one and o with his win coming by submission. This eighteen year old has some wrestling skill and he is packing a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. His game plan has to be to get this fight to the ground since he lacks any striking skills. Smiles is twenty years old and he is making his professional debut. He has really been working on his striking and I have to assume he is going to have a strong clinch game. Smiles will need to avoid Santos pulling guard from the clinch but if that becomes the case he should just get up from the ground right away. This will be a classic striker versus grappler in this one.

Prediction: Santos wins by submission in round 1.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Paulo "O fim do Destruidor" Jose (0-0) {0-0} versus Caique "Emperor Penguin" Mafra (0-1) {0-0}

This will be a battle of eighteen year olds making their BFC debuts. Jose has never fought before but he is not facing someone who has double digit fights so I don’t think that will be an issue. Jose is the much better striker so he will look to mix in a good amount of punches and kicks to keep Mafra odd balance in this one. Caigue is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I guarantee his victory, but only if he can get the fight to the ground. Since his opponent should be a heavy striker his best bet might be to lay back and look for a counter to get this to the mat.

Prediction: Caigue Mafra wins by submission in round 1

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Pit "Bulldog" Mies (6-4) {3-4} versus Ramon "Thunder" Marcelo (4-2) {0-1}

Mies is a twenty six year old brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. You would think most of his wins would be by submission but they are not, as he has four decision wins. Mies will want to take the fight to the ground where he can point grapple another decision win. Marcelo is o and one in BFC and four and two overall. Most of his wins have come by TKO as this twenty five year old is a boxing stand out. He will need to bring his a game of takedown defense if he wants to pull off the victory in this one. He was submitted in the first round during his Barbarian debut and he showed signs of having little to no wrestling defense and that makes me worry.

Prediction: Marcelo wins by TKO in round number 2

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Paul "Gorgeous" George (2-1) {1-0} versus Diego "Nightmare" Rios (3-2) {3-2}

George is a well-rounded fighter that can do it all. He does prefer the ground game though and that is a bit obvious as both of his wins have come by way of submission. George should look for the perfect opening to get this fight to the ground since he has enough stand up skills to defended himself well and do some serious damage. Rios is an experienced striker and he knows how to mix up his game well. He does not have the tools in my opinion to do battle on the ground with someone who is as good as George so he is going to need to keep this fight standing. A steady mix of head punches and body kicks could lead him to victory in this one.

Prediction Paul George wins by submission in round number 1

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Martinez Eluard (2-1) {1-0} versus Generic "The Python" Brazilian (2-2) {1-2}

Eluard is two and one and in his only BFC fight he was able to knockout Pit Mies in under a minute. Eluard is one hell of a boxer and he packs an amazing punch but he also has a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He can do it on the ground or standing up so he has options in this one, but I think he should look to keep it standing. Generic is your typical Jiu Jitsu fighter. He has no stand up game to speak of and his wrestling is alright. He needs the fight to go to the ground if he expects to win but that doesn’t guarantee him anything.

Prediction: Martinez Eluard wins by TKO in round number 1

Main Card Bout Number 1- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Marcelo "O Tigre" Silva (2-1) {1-1} versus William Henry "Billy The Kid" Bonney (2-1) {1-0}

Silva is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so you know he wants to get this fight to the ground. He also is a decent wrestler so that will help his cause a bit, but he will need to avoid this turning into a striking game. A healthy dose of counter grappling mixed with takedown attempts is the only way he will win this fight. As for Bonney we will need to focus on getting as many strikes in as possible while the two are standing. He is the far better striker but he is not a slouch on the ground either. He should make this fight very tough on Silva since he will be able to react well on the ground.

Prediction: Bonney wins by TKO in round number 3

Main Card Bout Number 2- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Dustin "Gannicus" Clare (5-4) {2-4} versus Paulo Sanchez (3-1) {1-0}

Clare needs to do something to break his four fight losing streak. The ground seems like an obvious place to start but Sanchez will be able to compete with him there. He will need to keep himself cool calm and collected in order to pull out a win in this one. Sanchez will be happy to go to the ground with Clare even though Clare is the better Jiu Jitsu fighter. What puts Sanchez in the driver’s seat is the fact he is a better wrestler than Clare. This can honestly go either way and it will be a very tough fight to pick a winner.

Prediction: Sanchez wins by submission in round number 2

Main Card Bout Number 3- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Andy "Black Dragon" Machida (3-1) {2-1} versus Bryan "The Organo Natural" Chua (4-1) {4-1}

Machida’s got a brown belt and he knows how to use it. He is three and one and all three of his wins have come by way of submission. He will obviously look to get this fight to the ground and he will want to get it there quick since his only loss has come by a first round knockout that happened in about thirty seconds. Chua is four and one and his only loss came against the champ when he was knocked out quickly. Chua is a wrestler that will stand and strike even though his striking skills are not where they should be. This will be a tough fight on him since his bread and butter is the ground and pound and Machida will be able to get an easy submission while the two are on the ground.

Prediction: Machida wins by submission in round number 2

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Zachary "Zap Zap" White (6-2) {4-2} versus Rafael Silva (5-3) {3-2}

On to the co main event where we get to see Zachary White back in action. White is six and two and his only losses came against the former Barbarian Fight Club Lightweight Champion Pepe Lepew. White will look to turn this into a boxing match so he can take a big advantage. I am sure White is salvulating now that Lepew is not the champion. Silva could not put himself in line for a title shot with a win over White but he would take a huge step in the right direction if he does. We all know White’s weakness and that is the clinch but I don’t see Silva taking this to the clinch. He will be looking to take the fight to the ground so White will need to show off his takedown defense in this one.

Prediction: White wins by KO in round number 1

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Heavyweight Title Fight (265lbs)

Rodrigo "One Hit Ko" Tyson (7-2) {5-1} versus Imperiex Prime (8-4) {3-1}

I called Tyson to win the tournament and I was correct. This twenty seven year old is a great striker with a decorated boxing background. Since coming to MMA Tyson has made some great improvements in wrestling and even more improvements in his Muay Thai. Tyson will obviously want to keep this fight standing. Prime is pretty young to already have twelve fights under his belt. He loves to strike and he has been working on his boxing but I don’t think his striking is on the same level as Tyson’s. For Prime to win this fight he will need to use his wrestling advantage to get this to the mat, and then he should fire off with some ground and pound. I will tell you all right now Tyson is not an easy man to takedown.

Prediction: Tyson wins by TKO in round number 2

There you have it folks. Please enjoy the preview and the fights even more.
