Event Review: EFFA 63 - Fist Full

Author:Bob Vendarra

It was a great Saturday Evening in Amsterdam. EFFA 63 Fist Full had an Attendance or 2196 in the Hard Knocks Arena and got an Event Rating of 183.40, 5th best in the History of the EFFA.

But let us get to the Fights where we had some pretty amazing Fight. Tom Thadani got KO of the Night and got with it the Super Heavyweight Crown.. Now on top of the Division and the new target for all the great Talents in it, will he keep his undefeted record? We will see.

Fight of the Night goes out to Olaf Anderson vs Axl Dokken.

Lepesiy vs. Khanomtom

Khanomtom was one dimensional from the start, allways trying to Clinch, but Lepesiy punished him every single time for even attempting it. Even when Khanomtom got the Clinch, Lepesiy broke it of easily, without taking any serious hit at all, 40 of the 46 Clinch attemps Lepesiy avoided and displayed some great counter fighting on his part. You could clearly see he wanted to keep the Fight in the middle of the Ring and picked Khanomtom appart from there, with Body Kicks and Punshes. All these Hits left a good purple lump on Khanomtoms ripcage. Lepesiy was never out of control the hole Fight, even cut his opponent with a nice left Hook to the Head. Displayed some great Striking accuracy (80%), but just could not get the finish over Khanomtom. So it went to the Judges but they saw what i saw and that was a dominating perfomance from Lepesiy. So no wonders he won the bout by unanimous decision after three Rounds.

Jose Torres vs. Bernard Hopkins

Right from the Start Torres was all over Hopkins. He moved in and out of the Clinch as he wanted, Hopkins was allready winded after 1 Minute. Torres caught him with a cross that stunned him and followed up with one on the button. Hopkins stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the ropes but Torres runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out. Hopkins never got a chance to execute his Gameplan and Torres won the Fight just after 1 Minute and 39 Seconds by KO. I hope we see more of that action from Torres.

Neji Hyuga vs. Walter Mooney

First Round was great action from the start with Mooney being the more agressiv Fighter. Mooney had the Clinch for him going and Hyuga the Stand-Up with some nice counters on Hyugas part. To the end of the first Round the Fight slowed down a bit and draw some boos from the crowed. But both of them realized they cant half ass that Fight and went right back to beating the each other. In the second Round Mooney turned up the heat and getting the better over Hyuga in the Clinch. After Mooney breaks one Clich, he rocked Hyuga and pushed him right away into the ropes. In a strong Thai Clinch he unloaded a massive knee that drops down Hyuga for good. He managed to get up again, but the referee took a look at him and waved off the fight. A correct decision and a safe one health wise for Hyuga. Mooney won the Fight after 3 Minutes and 43 Seconds of Round 2 by TKO.

Ruslan Karaev vs. John Wayne

Wayne looked much better in chape and put on some muscels. And he got a chance to show his power. Shortly after the bell rang he Knockdown Karaev with a big right hand. Karaev beats the count and gets back to his feet, but the shot left him with a cut in his face. Karaev wanted right back into the Fight and tried to clinch, but Wayne counters with a deadly accurate combination that rocks Karaev badly. Karaev wants to strike back, but Wayne puts an end to that with another precision combo that knocks Karaev out cold. Finally a win for Wayne after his 5 Fight loosing Streak.

JT Redman vs. Rico Hoekstra

Redman cuts Hoekstra seconds after round one is underway with an overhand right. Hoekstra looked like he wasn`t taking this fight serious. Redman and the other hand was, he took the chance when he saw an opening in Hoekstras guard cracked him with a picture perfect lead left hook. Hoekstra drops down and gets counted out. The second quick finish on the evening. Redman now with a Record of 3-0-0 has proven himself a serious contender in the 185lbs division.

Stefan Van Der Sar vs. Temppa Turkulainen

Five seconds into the first Round Van Der Sar counters Turkulainen with a beautiful head kick that sends Turkulainen crashing to the mat. Van Der Sar looked very happy after the KO over Turkulainen and is marking a name for himself in the Super Heavyweight Division. He has now two KO`s by Head Kick on his Record, a weapon that all his opponents should look out for.

Axl Dokken vs. Olaf Anderson

A great Fight for the Fans. Dokken and Anderson really went all out in this Fight. Which took place in the Clinch were Anderson was so agressiv Dokken could just defend. Anderson throw a lot of punshes, but landed just a few. Dokken took his time and tried to stike with more accuracy. He might have been the more effective striker, but the amount of strikes and the agressivness of Anderson secured him the win in the eyes of the Judges.

Stuey Ungar vs. Giant Tank

What a show put on by Stuey Ungar. There was not one second where anyone in the Arena was thinking Tank will win this. Ungar had his opponent that hole Fight under control and Tank only hit Ungar one time, that says it all. Ungar landed 43 Punshes and 70 Kicks, most of them Leg Kicks. Stuey Ungar put Tank`s body through hell this evening. I think Tank will need some time to recover from that much punishment, but that says also a lot about Tank. He wasn`t finished by Ungar keept fighting till the last second, great athlete.

Big Pox and Milovan Cirkovic

This Fight was very close and both of them showed a good Fight. Cirkovic the more effective stan-up stiker and Pox the more agressive one, put on a show, But Cirkovic ended the Fight with a perfectly timed counter head kick. Pox tried to get back on his feet but was too slow.

Marcus Brandao vs. Tom Thadani

It looked like both Fighter had the some Gameplan, attack the body of each other. Brandao was going for it with Punshes and Thadani with Kicks. They both landed decend stikes in the first Round but Brandao was the more agressive. But then Brandoa sleeped for one second didnt block a Head Kick and got rocked. Thadani patiently waited looking for another opening and hit Brandao with Head Kick that send him sailing right to the mat. New Super Heavyweight Champion Tom Thadani was a bit confused, because he was calling for a title shot. I hope for him everything is ok we havent heard from him jet. And after Marcus Brandao was awake he said „That`s it, i`m done.“, we try to find out more to this situation.
