Event Review: GAMMA#396 Gravius v Brit
Global Association of MMA
2014-05-10, Los Angeles, LA Memorial Colossuseum
Attendance:92,652, Event Rating:751
Author:Mentor Guru Corleone

The 10th of May, LA Memorial Colossuseum played host to GAMMA once more as 92651 fans packed into the stadium to watch twenty men step in a cage. 10 fights, 6 finishes and some absolute wars. Lets see how the top 5 fights of the night played out.

Jesse Venturia vs. Thiago "Fiote" Tavares 265+lbs

Venturia - 31-26 (20-18)

Manager - Danil Ukolov

Specialities - Veteran of GAMMA, solid power in his hands (29 (T)KO wins)

Tavares - 14-6 (1-1)

- Rodrigo Costa, Steel Penn Alliance

- 11 wins via (T)KO shows his power and his well rounded striking attack

Both fighters immediately went for low kicks and jabs to establish the range. Tavares got busted open by a jab but then returned a combo that had his opponent bleeding as well. The pace would not slow as Venturia knocked his foe to the floor with a combination and followed but allowed the stand up as he smelt blood. Tavares recovered and returned fire but it wasn’t long before he ate a head kick that would have felled a lesser man. Venturia rushed into mount and looked for a finish. Venturia then proceeded to do one of the oddest things I have seen in an MMA contest, he stood up and allowed his opponent to follow, from mount! The bell rang for the end of a dominant round for Venturia. After two frantic minutes on round 2, Tavares landed a monster right hand that dropped Venturia and followed, he allowed no breathing room as he repeatedly hammered his foe. The referee called the fight. Venturia will be bitterly disappointed as he was dominating the fight but got caught, this was the 21ST time he has been finished by strikes and fighting at super heavyweight he will get hit hard. Tavares showed one heck of a chin by being knocked down twice in the first round and managing to recover in the second and pull out a finish.

Result: Tavares via TKO(strikes) at 2:35 round 2

Auguste Grimm vs. "Fierce Eagle" Yoko Gushiken 145lbs title fight

Grimm - 15-4 (3-0)

- Davy Jones, Team Outkast

- Very well rounded with a black belt and some very strong boxing skills

Gushiken - 27-12 (0-0)

- Central Park Wigan, GRABTHE.INFO

- World class skills in all facets of MMA, very good power for a little guy

The first round, Gushiken was trying to land haymakers but Grimm dodged with ease. Gushiken saw an opportunity for a clinch and did so. While he was looking for hooks and uppercuts to the head, Grimm was doing a good job of landing shots to the head and body with some knees thrown in also. The clinch fighting carried on until the end of the round. Round 2 was more of the same but with Grimm initiating the clinch but Gushiken showed more promise as he landed the better shots and controlled more of the action. 2 rounds in, 1 apiece. Again round 3 was a clinch war, with Grimm looking for a Muay Thai attack but Gushiken looking for dirty boxing opportunities. Gushiken controlled the action so he probably won that round as well. Into the championship rounds and it stayed standing at distance as Grimm looked to wear his opponent down and kick while Gushiken looked for heavy punches. Eventually Gushiken caught Grimm flush and Grimm stayed conscious but couldn’t defend from the onslaught that followed forcing the referee to call an end to the title fight. In the clinch for the majority of 3 rounds and it was a dog fight for 3 rounds. Grimm looked sharper standing up in round 4 but got caught like the best of us and Gushiken left the cage with a shiny belt around his wasit

Result: Gushiken via TKO(strikes) 3:40 round 4

"Psycho Shooter" Max Hatred vs. Phil Ivey 205lbs

Hatred - 15-2 (6-0)(including fights in the contender org)

- Roger Kint, Evolution Fight Clan

- heavy handed (7 (T)KO wins), well rounded

Ivey - 41-17 (1-0)

- Stoned Man, GRABTHE.INFO

- Solid power, 28 (T)KO wins, very experienced fighter

Throwing the young buck (Hatred) at the old lion (Ivey) to see if Hatred’s unblemished GAMMA record could stay intact. He is a former GAMMA-LVC champion and got called up to the big leagues winning two fights. In round 1, Ivey showed his experience as he didn’t allow Hatred to score many punches and he landed a few of his own before shooting in for a takedown and landed in guard. He worked some ground and pound until the end of the round. Rounds 2 and 3 were more of the same with Hatred looking for counter opportunities whilst Ivey allowed him no room as he was constantly pressuring. Around 2 minutes in, in each round he got a takedowns and kept top position until the end of the round. Hatred can learn from this experience as he was thoroughly outworked by the old dog, Ivey. Hatred had a good number of low kicks landing but other than that he wasn’t busy enough.

Result: Ivey via UD (30:27)

Luke "Pig" Kilpatrick vs. Pops Cama 265+lbs

Kilpatrick - 17-5 (4-3)

- Killer Bamze

- Powerful striking (13 (T)KO wins) as well as a solid all round MMA game

Cama - 14-5 (2-0)

- Torrelio Sacana, Steel Penn Alliance

- Well rounded, very good cardio for a big man

The fight started out badly for Kilpatrick as he was getting manhandled on the feet, landing no punches of his own and being busted open. Cama was just too technical of a boxer for him. Kilpatrick sensed the urgency and managed a takedown. He wasn’t very successful on the ground as he was getting controlled by Cama and couldn’t land any punches. Cama hit a sweep from butterfly guard, then Kilpatrick snuck out from underneath and took the back of Cama, he then found an opening for a rear naked choke and Cama couldn’t fight it as it was locked in before he knew what was happening and was choked unconscious. Not the best of fights but Kilpatrick got the job done.

Result: Kilpatrick via submission (RNC) 4:57 round 1

"Knight Errant" Sellus Gravius vs. "Turk" Johnny Brit 265+lbs

Gravius - 18-7 (5-2)

- Dave F, The Legion of Pain

- Olympic level wrestling skills and deadly Muay Thai

Brit - 28-17 (2-0)

- Turk Yeniceri

- World class boxing skills 26 wins via (T)KO

The fight started with both men getting straight to business, Brit got cut early on. Brit then saw his blood and flicked a switch as he decked Gravius with a huge uppercut, he followed him to the floor but was unable to do any significant damage so he stood up and let Gravius follow. Gravius took his time and then landed a head kick that had Brit on the floor, bleeding and rocked. He let him back up and moved into the clinch and after one huge knee he pounced and forced the referee tp save Brit from long term damage. A frantic fight where both guys were at one point on the brink of defeat, however once Brit was hurt Gravius allowed no room for mistakes as he swarmed on Brit and got the finish. Gravius showed very good accuracy only missing two strikes out of 18 thrown.

Result: Gravius via TKO(strikes) 4:10 round 1

Well that about wraps up GAMMA#396 and what a action packed event it was, I’m sure the fans in attendance got their money’s worth from the event and went home feeling delighted as im sure all of the winners did as well.

Until next time,

Michael “The Wolf” Brakeley
