HONOR FC Wednesday Warfare XIX Preview

Event Preview: HONOR Wednesday Warfare XIX
HONOR Fighting Championship
2014-06-11, Las Vegas, The Palmtree
Author:

Welcome back HONOR fans. We’re back again, live at The Palmtree in Las Vegas. This is an interesting event as quite a few of these fights were taken on very short notice and may be slightly unfair, unfortunately we were only able to get 9/10 promised fights but they will be great fights so don’t miss them. Dan Monk would like to send a shoutout to all the fighters who accepted these fights and let them know that whatever happens tonight, they’re all winners in his book

Preliminary Bout Number 1 – Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Bj “Booieman” Ferguson (32-19) VS. Rusaka “Baraka” Gono (3-2)

Ferguson is coming out again after losing a recent fight on May 25th where he got TKO’d in less than 10 seconds against Takeshi Watanabe. He’s looking to redeem that emberassing loss and climb back up the ladder. His opponent, “Baraka” Gono, is almost 20 years younger than him and far less experienced. I do think Gono may have a striking advantage here, we’ll see.

Prediction: Just based off experience I think I’ll have to go with Ferguson on this one, although I wouldn’t be surprised if Gono takes it.

Preliminary Bout Number 2 – Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Darc “The Wild One” Von Hayek (2-2) VS. “Mr. T” Oscralo De Santiuya (8-7)

Von Hayek will be joining us again after losing his rematch to Alex Irwin at Wednesday Warfare XVI, where he was once again, TKO’d in the first round. He’s going to look to use his standup advantage to get him a finish tonight. De Santiuya is pretty happy about getting a win after his 2 fight losing streak. He was last here 2 weeks ago where he got a much needed TKO victory in round 3 against Toby Fluke. He’s going to try and turn that 2 fight losing streak into a 2 fight winning streak.

Prediction: Not sure if De Santiuya is going to be able to get the takedown tonight, he hasn’t had much luck with them in the past and Von Hayek seems to have some good Takedown defense. I think I’ll go with Von Hayek on this one.

Preliminary Bout Number 3 – Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Jean Descharme (19-10) VS. Oberyn “Steel” Martell (14-7)

The long awaited rematch between Jean Descharme and Oberyn Martell. These guys fought 2 months ago at HONOR FC 10 in a fight that ended via decision with Descharme taking the win in what was thought to be a very close fight. The fans immediately called for a rematch and after Descharme lost his next fight and Martell won his, he earned another shot. Let’s see if he can make the best of it.

Prediction: I think Martell has a new strategy this time out and I think he’ll get the W.

Preliminary Bout Number 4 – Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Dack Fayden (11-5) VS. Alex “Almighty” Irwin (5-4)

Fayden is coming off another submission of the night win where he was able to finish Bobby Shamrock at 2:30 in the first round with a rear naked choke. He’s gonna be fighting… a white belt… but a white belt with a very good standup game. Unfortunately he’s lost 3 of his 4 fights by… you guessed it, submission! Kind of a silly fight, but we’ll see what happens

Prediction: I think Fayden’s going to get this to the ground easily and submit Irwin with no problems.

Main Card Bout Number 1 – Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

K The “THE GREAT” Rad (13-4) VS. Al “KO” Hallick (6-1)

Rad is a guy who likes to fight, plain and simple. He’s known for his anyone, anytime anywhere attitude and he’s stood by it forever. He’s fought in just about every weight class he can and has put on some amazing fights. He’s currently on a 3 fight win streak and looking to make this #3. Hallick is another KO monster, living up to his name. All 6 of his victories have come via (T)KO, most via head kicks. He’s a young guy with seemingly limitless potential and we’re expecting him to make some big waves in the MMA world.

Prediction: Man this has fight of the night and KO of the night written all over it, I honestly have no clue but I hope Hallick knocks Rad on his ass.

Main Card Bout Number 2 – Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Michal Kucharski (11-2) VS. Takeshi Watanabe (10-8)

Next up is another black belt vs white belt battle… I can’t say I’m too fond of these types of fights as its high in favor of the BJJ fighter. Who knows though, this is MMA, where we all know ANYTHING can happen. Kucharski is coming off a very upsetting loss that ended his 10 fight win streak. He was TKO’d in the second round after having his back to the cage and taking some huge combos that he just couldn’t handle. Watanabe is coming off his second loss in a row via first round submissions. This guy keeps leaving his arm out there and paying for it.

Prediction: Considering Watanabe’s last 2 losses are via first round submissions… I’m definitely gonna go with the black belt, Kucharski.

Main Card Bout Number 3 – Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Augustus “DEADSHOT” Belmont (24-11) VS. Kaito “Tsunami” Rin (21-8)

Both of these guys took this fight on short notice, They fought on Saturday and was (T)KO’d in the first round. They really want to forget that and put that night behind them. One of them is going to regret this. Who do you think it will be?

Prediction: Belmont via (T)KO.

Co Main Event – Light Heavyweight Fight (205bs)

Rik Spahn (25-11) VS. “THE ANNIHILATOR” Jack Turnbull (19-9-1)

For our Co Main Event we have what I think is going to be an epic battle between these 2 knockout artists. Spahn has 19 knockouts in his professional career and who knows how many before he went pro. He’s unfortunately on a fight losing streak, one via decision where he failed to take the title from John Mayhem at the Evil Empire. After losing that fight he signed to HONOR and got TKO’d in his first fight out. He’s looking to see if he’s able to come back off that loss and continue his career here. Turnbull lost his last fight as well after getting TKO’d at CEC 331. He’s a monster though, so we forgive him for losing. This guy puts out incredible fights every time out and is always looking for a finish, he has 8 fight of the night and 9 KO of the night awards and he’s definitely a fan favorite.

Prediction: It’s going to be a great fight regardless of who wins, but I think I’ll go with Turnbull on this one.

Main Event - Middleweight Title Fight (185lbs)

Arshnoor “THE BRUTALIZER” Singh (11-2) VS. Bilbo “The Brazilian Butch” Baggins (15-3)

Finally our Main Event is here and the Middleweight title is on the line. Singh will be defending his title again against Biblo Baggins. This is yet another black belt vs white belt match, although Singh has one hell of a standup game and has never been submitted. For how young they are, these guys have a ridiculous amount of awards and this should be a great fight.

Prediction: Baggins is going to rip Singhs arm off and take his belt.

Well, that’s what we got going on tonight, some great looking fights and I’m expecting tons of highlight reel performances tonight, and hopefully a new middleweight champion! Make sure to check back later for a recap, and most importantly, enjoy the show!
