  HEROIC 163

On the 27th of June 2014, HEROIC will step into the famed Wombley Arena hoping to fill up all 93607 seats as Jonah King looks to lead HEROIC into a new era. The card is headlined by former p4p number 1, Danny Power facing the p4p number 5 Rainer Varvaskoukku. Let’s see an in depth breakdown for the main card.

"Dangerous" Danny Power vs. "Personal" Rainer Varvaskoukku 145lbs

Let’s start with the main event between former kingpin Power and the up and coming Varavaskoukku, whom I shall refer to as either Rainer or Personal. “Dangerous” Danny Power, is still as dangerous as they come, he was the man to beat but now whilst he is still a formidable foe, he may not be up to the challenge anymore, we shall see. Managed by the former best manager in tycoon, Sean McDonnel I’m sure Power will come in with a smart gameplan. Power is very well rounded but has shown to favour striking and using his wrestling as a defensive measure, but he has also shown to have a suspect chin as he has been (T)KO’d 10 times in his career, and in the lower weights that may be worrying for Power who may look to use his other tools to win this fight. Rainer, is coming off what may be the submission of the year, using a triple decker pecker wrecker (TDPW) on formidable foe, Roman Kersikov. He has shown to be extremely well rounded, and a well rounded finisher at that, having 9 submission win and 13 stoppages via strikes. His best asset is his ground game, but also has good boxing. It is worth noting he is managed by up and coming manager Pedro Fernandes who will be looking for another noteworthy manager to go on his list of victims. This is a very tough fight to pick but my gut is telling me “Personal” will drag it to the floor and snatch up a submission victory, leading to Power’s first submission defeat.

Prediction: Varvaskoukku via submission

Eric "88" Lindros vs. Aaron "Evolution" Edwards 205lbs

The co main event is between, Lindros who is HEROIC’s best 205er and Edwards who will look to take that spot for himself. Lindros is one nasty striker, 28 of his wins are by (T)KO an many of them have separate men from their consciousness. However, he is also susceptible to the punch as he has been (T)KOed 11 times in his 50 fight career. He also has some of the better defensive wrestling in the division and uses it very effectively. Edwards will be training to avoid the big punches of Lindros and he will look to use some of his world class Muay Thai to outpoint his opponent. He prefers to use a heavy clinch game and it has led him to 12 decision victories in his 19 wins. He’s only been finished twice in his 5 losses and that may well be the factor that leads him to win in this fight. Lindros does possess a good clinch game himself so he can never be counted out. I think that Edwards will steal two rounds and due to his lack of not finishing the fight he will allow Lindros to storm back in the third round and KO him.

Prediction: Lindros via KO

Jim Beckett vs. Yoshiteru Goto 145lbs

This fight could well be for the honours to face the winner of the main event, as both Beckett and Goto are very good fighters. Let’s start with Beckett, he’s still only 27 and yet to make much of a name for himself, but he is young and very skilled so he could be the best guy in a few years time. We shall see. He doesn’t possess any truly elite skills, he is a jack of all trades master of none type of guy. He has got a black belt in BJJ and has used it to submit 4 opponents. He has also shown some good power, finishing 6 guys via striking. He will be a tough man to put away. Goto, is a Muay Thai wrecking ball. He has very good skills in other areas, but it has often been his use of Muay Thai that has led him to victory. With a wiry frame and deceptive power he is one of the better fighters in HEROIC’s 145 division. Worth noting is that he has been finished 5 times in 20 defeats so his chin may be a weak spot. I think that Goto will avoid being hit on his suspect chin and proceed to give Beckett a good old beating using the clinch and kicks to do so and lead him to a decision victory.

Prediction: Goto via UD

Julio Quintana vs. Zophiel Furfur 155lbs.

Quintana is a very athletic 27 year old, a former baseball star who transitioned into wrestling then MMA has led him to great success with a record of 15-3-1. He has the tools to turn a fight into a ground fight with a black belt and good wrestling, he prefers to use his wicked power in his fists and feet to batter people, this method of fighting has led him to 9 (T)KO stoppages. He has great potential and with an experienced manager in Sean McDonnel behind him he can achieve great things. His opponent on the 27th will be Furfur. He does not excel in any area rather he is great at mixing them all up to keep his opponent guessing throughout the whole fight. He may not possess devastating power or an ability to pull out subs from no where but he can make fights into tough wars and grinding fights. He is the perfect opponent for a fighter who wants to make it to the big time, most of his finishes are from his early career and his most recent victories have seen him use his well-roundedness to win UD or majority decisions. I believe the time this fight stays standing it favours Quintana and he will land a shot that will keep Furfur on the back foot eventually tagging him a few more times and adding another KO to his record.

Prediction: Quintana via TKO

"Gods Spear" Ansgar Axelsson vs. Cristiano Nascimento 205lbs

Axelsson has one of the best nicknames I think I’ve heard and he will be facing a man who lives and dies by his sword. Axelsson possesses a wicked stand up game, with Muay Thai and boxing that will be hard to stop. He has shown great power also with 18 (T)KO victories from 22 and his opponent has a notoriously bad chin. Cristiano has some of the better offensive boxing in the sport but his defensive skills are very bad. Out of 14 defeats, all of them have been him ended up with him eating canvas. He does have terrible power though and one punch is all it takes in this sport and he may well land it. Both my gut and my head are telling me the defensive and offensive wizadry of Axelsson will lead him to a KO victory.

Prediction: Axelsson via KO

Predictions for the undercard

Richard "Absolute" Renninger vs. Santiago "Fancy Pants" Colon 170lbs – Renninger via UD

Jamie "Takedown" Gillis vs. Jamie "Takedown" Gillis 205lbs – Gillis via TKO

"The Wizard" Xavier Cid vs. "OldBoy" Despicable Oh Dae Su 155lbs – Cid via UD

Chris "The Cobra" Kendall vs. Luke "The Jedi Knight" Skywalker 170lbs – Kendall via TKO

Master "of Sinanju" Chuin vs. Kirill "anakónda" Petrov 155lbs – Petrov via TKO

Be sure to check out the results on the 27th I’m sure it will be an unforgettable event wit haction packed fights and great finishes.

That’s all from me, until next time
