Soul Supremacy ..... Resurrection

Event Preview: "Resurrection"
Soul Supremacy Fight Club.
2014-08-01, London, The Underground - London
Author:Bunner Ting

Soul Supremacy will become officially resurrected come August 1st when one thousand fans and twenty fighters meet at the Underground in London for what looks to be an incredible night of mixed martial arts. This long anticipated return will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between two great strikers in Daniel Tyler and Mike “Martial Arts” Mathews.

Freddie “Thunderfists” Fairfax (0-0) vs Bjoern “The giant” Kessler (0-0)   Two young heavyweights making their professional debuts here, both of these fighters have great striking backgrounds and little to offer on the ground. I expect this this to be an absolute slugfest, with nothing much to pick between these fighters I am going to give a slight edge to Kessler due to his more diverse striking ability given his Muay Thai experience. I expect Kessler to work well out of the clinch with dirty boxing and even be able to control the fight from distance with dangerous kicks.   Prediction: Kessler (T)KO round 2   Albin "Nacelnik" Han (5-9) vs Kelly "Southie" Richardson (1-0)   This fight is between the well traveled Han and relative newcomer Richardson. Han has a big stand up advantage as well as the ability to keep the dangerous BJJ practitioner on the feet. Unless Kelly is able to to get it on the ground I don't see him standing much of a chance.   Prediction: Han (T)KO Round 2   Henry Jones (0-1) vs James "Boom Boom" McCoy (0-1)   Both of these 205'ers are looking for their first professional wins. Jones projects as a top prospect here at SSFC and should be able to use his high level striking to put away away the scrappy "Boom Boom" McCoy as he already has a loss via KO.   Prediction: Jones (T)KO Round 1   Denis Pelono (6-7) vs Bret "The Hitman" Schultz (1-0)   If Schultz is able to get this one to the ground he should be able to put away the hard hitting Pelono; however that will be easier said than done for the newcomer. Pelono has solid take down defense and is great in the clinch. If Schultz rushes in too hastily he could get caught in the clinch and punished hard in the process. Pelono has power, experience, and great stand up; I expect this to be the difference in the fight.    Prediction: Pelono (T)KO Round 1   Micky “The Bull” Darcy (1-3) vs Rob “Showtime” Sullivan (0-1)   The second fight of the night is an interesting battle in the light heavyweight division between the well rounded Darcy and a high level wrestler in Sullivan. Darcy should be dangerous on his feet here and given that Sullivan is known to cut easily this one could get bad for “Showtime” if he is not able to take it to the ground. Expect Sullivan to look for takedowns early and often as he attempts to control the fight from the top position, sadly for him Darcy has good BJJ and should be able to avoid the finish on the ground.   Prediction: Darcy (T)KO Round 3   Conor "DaCrook" Cooke (1-0) vs Hamdija "Pogino" Han (5-9)   Cooke is one of the better middleweight prospects in London and is incredibly well rounded. He is facing off against a limited Hamdija Han; to his credit Han is a great boxer with stone like hands, however he is vulnerable in the clinch as well as on the ground. I expect this fight to be dominated by Cooke and finished early.   Prediction: Cooke Sub Round 1   Asa Ali (0-0) vs Ricky “Bravo” Konda (4-0)   Ali comes into this one as a highly regarded prospect due to his great Muay Thai ability; he is making his debut against Ricky Konda who has remained undefeated in his first four bouts, all which have come via (T)KO. Ali should do very well on the feet in this one; however I don’t believe that he can stop Konda from taking it to the ground where he can use his dangerous ground and pound to make it a sour debut for Ali.   Prediction: Konda (T)KO round 1   Joe Bone (0-0) vs Mark “Mad” Wrend (0-0)   Another set of youngsters making their pro debuts here, this time in the middleweight division. Wrend is very well rounded and should be able to dominate this fight on the feet, he also has great wrestling and good bring the fight to the ground, however Bone has great BJJ and has the ability to end the fight with an array of submissions. I feel that Wrend has a significant advantage in almost every aspect of the fight; however I am picking Bone to pull a minor upset here as I do feel the fight will end up being finished on the ground with Bone using his great BJJ to tap his opponent late.   Prediction: Bone Sub Round 3   Randy “KasinO” Royale (5-19-1) vs Jonathon “The Hammer” Thor (4-2)   Our Co-Main event is between the extremely experienced Royale and the up and coming Thor. This looks to be a big fight in the 205lb division as each man is looking to start their tenure in the promotion off on the right foot. Royale is a great boxer and offers a lot of danger to Thor on the feet; he also sports a pretty significant ground advantage. The biggest advantage that Thor has comes in the form of intangibles, he has good quickness and a great chin; this will make the fight incredibly tough on Royale who is known to struggle with his own chin. Still I give the edge to the more experienced fighter as I think Thor may be a little bit out of his depth.   Prediction: Royale UD   Daniel Tyler (0-2) vs Mike “Martial Arts” Mathews (2-2)   The main event of the evening is for the Soul Supremacy Light Heavyweight Championship between two great servants of the Soul Supremacy Alliance. For Tyler his best chance will come on the feet as both of Mathews losses come by way of TKO. Mathews should look to take this one to the ground where he has a huge wrestling and BJJ advantage, conventional wisdom says that he will look for a takedown early and finish fairly quickly.   Prediction: Mathews Sub round 1   “Resurrection” looks to be an exciting night of fights that should be full of devastating finishes and slick submissions as each man will be looking to establish themselves as a top contender in this resurging promotion.
