TROID’S NEXT TOP FIGHTER!

ROUND 2

Arena:                            The Underground (1,000)

Date:                              2nd September 2014

Merch Partner:              Bad Man Clothing (Rio)

Hey everyone, and welcome to our second round of matchups in the Troid’s Next Top Fighter! competition. Our first round saw 10 fighters take a forward step in their quest to become the next breakout star in the 145lbs division, and now we will see which fighters can maintain their momentum, and which fighters can gain their first win of the season. With plenty of reason to look forward to this event, let’s get started with the preview!

FIGHT #1

Jack Cain (0-2-0) vs Alvy Singer (0-1-0)

Both of these fighters suffered losses in their first round matches, but they will both have the opportunity to make up for those losses. Whoever loses will be rooted to the bottom of the table, while the winner may progress and be competing for the higher positions. Cain was submitted in his first round fight, but now he is able to show his standup game against another striker. Singer fought against heated rival Geralt of Rivia in his first round fight and came off second best. He will be looking to use his Muay Thai to secure his first three points of the season. We know Singer has KO power, but he was unable to display it last time around. Likewise, Cain is heavy handed, and if he lands some good strikes, it may be good night for Singer.

PREDICTION: Cain to win via (T)KO in Round 2

FIGHT #2

Mr Evil (0-1-0) vs Sebastian Scrooge (0-1-0)

In this bout, we have another pair of fighters who both did not make the best of starts to their campaigns. Evil has a solid wrestling game, but when faced with another wrestler in Boshtok, he focusses on working his opponent with kicks. We have yet to see Evils true game plan, which leaves a certain unpredictability that may work to his advantage. Scrooge’s loss to Joe The was the shock upset of the first round, and the only fight I wrongly predicted. Scrooge has a solid wrestling game also, but backs it up with a BJJ Purple Belt. With Evil having a good wrestling game, but an unpredictable game plan, this could go anyway depending on what Evil focusses on doing

PREDICTION: Scrooge to win via Submission in Round 2

FIGHT #3

Timothy Christopher (0-2-0) vs Junior Singh (1-0-0)

We now have a fighter who won in his first round match up, as Singh takes on Christopher. Both of these fighters specialise in Muay Thai, and a little bit of skill in boxing. Expect these two to be throwing punches, elbows, knees and kicks at each other for as long as they can both stand. Singh looks the more confident coming into this match up, but you can never rule a fighter out of potentially winning in this tournament. The one major factor that indicates a Singh victory, is that Christopher hasn’t rested enough lately, and will have a major energy disadvantage. Christopher’s inexperience couple with his energy won’t help him at all in this fight, and I have to go with Singh here

PREDICTION: Singh to win via (T)KO in Round 1

FIGHT #4

Little Yoshi (1-0-0) vs Jimmy Doyle (0-1-0)

A contrast of styles here, and Boxer and Wrestler Little Yoshi takes on Muay Thai and BJJ fighter Jimmy Doyle. Despite having only a blue belt in BJJ, Yoshi is an intelligent fighter who managed to secure an Arm Triangle submission victory over Charles Carlyle. Doyle was unfortunate to lose against Commander Shepard, but he has seemed in confident mood in the smack talk thread, and he will be looking to make a statement against Yoshi by defeating him. Yoshi has shown he is a force to be reckoned with due to his intelligence, but Doyle will look to last the fight with his granite chin.

PREDICTION: Yoshi to win via (T)KO in Round 3

FIGHT #5

Sammy DeStefano (0-1-0) vs Gregor MCconnor (1-0-0)

MCconnor was impressive in his first fight, winning via Unanimous Decision, but showed he is determined to finish his fights. DeStefano didn’t show much in his first fight, so it will be interesting to see how he reacts when he comes into the cage for this fight. His opponent seems to cut easily, so he may look to exploit that. DeStefano has a big heart, so MCconnor will have to make sure he finishes the job if he has DeStefano on the run.

PREDICTION: DeStefano to win via (T)KO in Round 2

FIGHT #6

Keyni Rossi (0-1-0) vs Conor McCracken (1-0-0)

Rossi suffered a bad start when he lost to Oliver Heath, but he had a big heart and he will come back from it stronger than before. McCracken secured a lovely Arm Triangle submission victory and we can be sure to see him secure many more submissions in the future. McCracken has the ability to back up his smack talk, and I feel like we will see another victory for “The Cork Convict”

PREDICTION: McCracken to win via Submission in Round 1

FIGHT #7

Joe The (1-0-0) vs Commander Shepard (1-0-0)

We finally come to a fight between two of the winners from the first round. Joe The had the shock win of the first round as he managed to get a submission win against Sebastian Scrooge. He comes up against one of the preseason favourites for the tournament Commander Shepard. Shepard demonstrated why people believe him to be one of the forerunners in the league when he dominated his first round fight. His clinch game is devastating, and Joe The will find it hard to escape once Shepard has him in his clutches.

PREDICTION: Shepard to win via (T)KO in Round 1

FIGHT #8

Ethan Kent (0-1-0) vs Yuri Boshtok (1-0-0)

Ethan Kent suffered a loss to both his record and his dignity as he was beaten and teabagged by Billy Balls Jr in his first round match. He goes up against Yuri Boshtok who demonstrated how tough training in Chernobyl early in his career made him. He stopped Mr Evil late in the second round and although the he hasn’t trained there in a while, the mutations are still visible. I expect Boshtok to win again, but Kent will provide him with a good challenge, so he will need to be on top of his game.

PREDICTION: Boshtok to win via (T)KO in Round 2

CO-MAIN EVENT!

FIGHT #9

Charles Carlyle (0-1-0) vs Geralt of Rivia (1-0-0)

A solid fight, as much loved Charles Carlyle takes on Geralt of Rivia in Round 2. Carlyle has been quiet during this tournament, but everyone knows of the threat he poses for his opponents. Of Rivia managed to slay his first “monster” in Alvy Singer, and he will be looking to add Carlyle to that list. Whether “The White Wolf” can manage to do that remains to be seen, but it makes for one hell of a co-main event!

PREDICTION: of Rivia to win via (T)KO in Round 3

MAIN EVENT!

FIGHT #10

Oliver Heath (1-0-0) vs Billy Balls Jr (1-0-0)

Heath blasted through Keyni Rossi in his first round match up, and has started off brilliantly, securing a KO win to earn three points. His opponent also claimed a KO win to earn three points, so it is a battle for supremacy already in the league. Billy Balls Jr has stated his aim is to leave everybody flat out cold while he rubs his scrotum over their face. Heath will be looking to avoid such a grim fate, but he will have to be wary of Balls Jr’s boxing ability. A fantastic battle for our second main event in the tournament!

PREDICTION: Balls Jr. to win via (T)KO in Round 2

Well, that is the preview for the second round of fights, and it will be interesting to see who breaks away from the pack, and who can climb off the foot of the table. 20k is being given away in OTN prizes, with more prizes being given away at the end of the 5th round, these fighters must ensure they keep the smacktalk flowing while backing it up with action!
