Bittersweet Symphony: elegy for Kim Figueroa

Fighter profile of Kim Figueroa by

"I read the news today oh, boy"....

Yeah, a great song by the Fab Four, but also a damn real fact of life: no matter how far you go or how long you run, there is still something that you leave behind.

That something, speaking of me, has a name: Kim Figueroa.

In my first life as an MMA Tycoon, Kim has been my greatest, yet more underestimated fighter.

Being the first kid knocking at my door when I started, he had to pay for all my faults and lack ow wisdom:

bad gyms, bad supplies, no money, wrong training, dumb technical advice...

Nonethenless, he was able to win, win and win again.

His granite chin, his brave mind, his great heart took him where I was not able to lead him: one step away from the top.

Would I have been a little more competent, a little less arrogant or even a little bit luckier, he would possibly have been a numer one.

So what? Well, I read the news today oh boy, and I have seen the sharp features of Kim Figueroa after a recent win.

I am just back on the saddle again after some years of detoxication, and he is 35 now: a fighter far beyond his prime, but still he refuses to be an easy prey for anyone. A tiger whose claws are just a little less sharp than they were before, but still deadly.

Bet his manager is proud of the guy, at least as much as I am.

This is just to say: "Hello Kim, see you're still doing grat. just accept my apologies for being such an awful manager!".

I just hope I have not bored you all to death, with these old war stories, but you know, we all become a bit sentimental as we grow older...
