Valor returns to NYC with all fights ending via TKO/KO

Editorial by Sid Vicious

After a break of several years Valor Fighting Championship has returned to NYC and what a nights action the re-born org provided with all seven of its bouts ending via TKO and KO, its safe to say Valor returned with a BANG!

O'Neill V Bergen

For 2 minuets 22 seconds this one was a stand up war, Bergen was throwing kicks and punches and 'The Snake O'Neill replied with his boxing skills landing shots at will, Bergen realised quickly that O'Neill had better striking defence and was the more comfortable fighter in the stand and trade battle, trying to mix it up Bergen tried to clinch with no success, so he continued with some success to check O'Neil with leg kicks then quickly follow it up with some solid strikes, but O'Neill replied each time in kind, it was a great exhibition and something had to give, so it was when Bergen pulled out of a leg kick just after the two minuets mark that O'Neil cranked up the aggression firing and landing a series of vicious strikes that had Daniel Bergen back peddling across the cage, following up with a big left that had Bergen's legs like boiled spaghetti, The Snake relentlessly landed strike after strike until the ref jumped in and ended this one, Its a big first win via TKO for Bosco O'Neill and a good solid performance by Daniel Bergen, both fighters will be back in action I would imagine at VFC-2 and will no doubt bump heads again sometime in the future. No surprise then that this was awarded fight of the night.

Javier Martinez v Marcus Ulpius Traianus

We expected this one to be a contest of conflicting styles but Javier Martinez for the first minute showed Marcus Ulpious Traianus that he was more than capable of standing toe to toe and trading and when this became 'boring' for Martinez he took the one dimensional Traianus to the floor at will, here he mixed it up with some ground n pound, as Traianus utilised some decent defence off his back, the Ref stood it up and we were back to square one but again Martinez took it to the mat at will, this was much the same story as the round ended and we went to R2, Take down, GNP, Stand-up, it was becoming predictable and it was clear to see Martinez was bossing Traianus at ease, you always felt he had an extra gear and he slipped into it with ease after 4 min, of the second, Martinez scored a trip take-down and quickly unleashed a flurry of violent GNP that rocked Traianus and cut him open, Martinez kept pounding and the ref had no choice but to step in and put poor Traianus out of his misery, So its a convincing first win for Javier Martinez and its back to the Gym to hopefully broaden his base styles for Marcus Ulpius Traianus

Itora Bollockoff v Tony Slevin

Bollockoff took this fight because no one else wanted it, and we commended him for doing so but everyone knew that Tony Slevin's amateur reputation had been causing a stir, was it bravado or stupidity that made Bollockoff throw his hat in the cage we will never know, what we do know is that his head will probably be too swollen for some time to ever get the hat back on because Tony Slevin announced himself on the professional circuit with an absolute lesson in vicious uncompromising brutality, from the off he took Bollockoff apart and then some, First he cut him then knocked him down, rocked Bollockoff was stupid enough to stumble back to his feet and Slevin hammered him with a big right, Itora Bollockoff was out on his feet but Tony Slevin put him flat on his back and into hospital with a thunderous left, at 1.28 of round one that’s all she wrote, Slevin stakes his claim as one tough cookie in the 265, and Bollockoff faces a long lay off with injury. This one provided KO of the night.

Gorkon Pinocet v John Mallon

Gorkon Pinocet came out of his corner swinging for the fences in an apparent attempt to decapitate the débutante John Mallon, Mallon replied with some solid standup of his own and when Pinocet was edging ahead in the stand up war Mallon to it to the clinch the first few minute was mix of this high octane action, it was a WAR, however after breaking from a clinch in the just over a minute and a half into the first, Mallon unleashed a strong combination that found its target, this drove Pinocet into the cage where Mallon landed an uncompromising flurry of punches that destroyed Pinocets defence, the ref jumped in and ended it at 1.50 of the first round, a convincing first win for John Mallon against strong opposition, however the end of the fight was marred by wild allegations of cheating, Gorkon Pinocet made wild claims about oils being rubbed in his eyes by the young Mallon and he quickly called for a rematch, VFC refused the request and said only if both camps call for the rematch will it be so. VFC believes the fight was fair and that Mallon deserves a step up in competition in his next outing, however should Team Mallon decide to accept a rematch VFC will facilitate.

Trevis Brayn v Rutger Svensson

Billed as the battle of the glass chins it was expected that this bout would fall to whoever landed the first clean dig to the face! And so it was as Brayn broke his strength trying to take down Rutger Svensson, Svensson felt out his range with a few punches and a spinning back fist to the face no less, when he seen his opening at 1.22 in the first round, Svensson dropped Trevis Brayn with a big straight right, he quickly followed him to the mat and as he unloaded with hammer fists that Brayn could not defend the ref dived in and called an end to this one, a solid turn in fortunes for Rutger Svensson, and a comprehensive defeat for Trevis Brayn.

Co-Main Event

Sangram Singh v Fionn McCool

This fight was accepted at the 11th hour Singh's team left it late to accept the challenge, was this mind games?, we don't know, billed as stand up vs ground game, we felt whoever could impose their style on the fight early on would win it. Sangram Singh took no chances with the feared heavy hands of the 'Car-bomb' Fionn McCool, he slid straight in and with no problem took McCool to the floor, softening McCool up with some GNP Singh was on the look out for submission opportunities and almost locked in a kimura early on, however McCool showed some good grappling defence and strength to mix it up and avoid strikes and sub attempts off the bottom, this was the story of round one with Singh bossing the bout. R2 started the same way and almost the entire round focused on Singh landing GNP and trying for the submission, it seemed McCool was far out classed by Singh's floor game however McCools tenacity in avoiding the GNP and escaping the subs wore down Singh's energy and ability and in 4th minute of the round the ref stood them up due to lack of action, both fighters moved in and out of the clinch trying to get a breather after the war on the mat. R3 started with the stand-up opportunity The 'Car-bomb' had been looking for, he quickly floored Singh with an uppercut and a powerful drive to the body, Sangram Singh was rocked, as he got to his feet, Fion McCool drove him into the cage and then to his knee's with a series of viscous strikes forcing the ref to jump in and end it, what a victory for Fionn McCool as he showed his ability to suck up the punishment and still unleash a violent finish which undoubtedly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, Sangram Singh will be back, but he will have to hone his finishing, as at times this fight was his for the taking, McCool stakes a claim in the 205 with this victory.

Main Event

Duane Stockton v Roberto Issa

This Bout began with a stand up war, Issa and 'Corn-Fed' Stockton went at it toe to toe, Stockton's defense the better with many of Issa's shots not hitting the mark, Issa was also looking for the take-downs but Stockton was sprawling well, Issa managed a take-down, but Stockton bounced straight back up, Issa mixed it up and took the fight to the clinch, Stockton broke the clinch and began striking wildly with most missing their target, just after three minutes of round one both fighters traded shots and when Issa missed a take-down attempt Stockton landed a powerful body shot that left Issa winded, gasping like a goldfish Issa tried to clinch but Stockton again landed a shot winding him further, it was only a mater of time, Issa managed to survive a looping right hand, then Stockton landed a lightning uppercut out of nowhere, Issa miraculously stayed on his feet but was disorientated and groggy and Stockton was like a Great White in a swimming pool laying into Roberto Issa with a series of horrific strikes which forced the ref to jump in and put an end to this one via TKO, Issa showed a lot of heart in this fight but was clearly outclassed by Corn fed Stockton, you had a sense that at anytime Stockton could move it up a gear, he stakes a claim in the 265 division and caps a remarkable return for Valor Fighting Championship to NYC.

The Resurrection is complete, the process of finding contenders capable of challenging to become a VFC champion has begun we await the next instalment at VFC-2 and if it is as breathtaking as last nights event, everyone will have a chance to prove their VALOR.
