 Here are the final standings for the GAMMA fighter of the year awards. When judging i take into consideration the following factors:
- Total GAMMA fights and wins.
- Quality of the opposition.
- Super fight participation and performance.
- Title wins and defense.
- Rematch and rubber fight wins.
The fighter of the year award goes to:
#1 Jesse Custer (183716)
12-2 inside GAMMA
#1 Ranked 205lbs fighter
2 time 205lbs champion with 4 defenses
Jesse has been on a roll since the start of the year, winning 12 of his total 14 fights. His 2 losses came to Jonny "The Angel" Victorio and Scott Bennet and he avenged both of those losses. He is the current 205lbs champion and probably the most feared 205lbs fighter in the world today, which is why a lot of the big names in the so called "big leagues" are avoiding him.
#2 Russ Rutger (62373)
11-3 inside GAMMA, 14-4 overall
#1 Ranked 170lbs fighter
170lbs champion, with 5 defenses
Russ is probably this years "fans choice" for the fighter of the year and if not for a poor ending with 2 losses to ex-#1 p4p fighter Renan St Juste, he probably would had secured the first place. He had some major wins against fighters which were considered to be in their prime, with 2 top 20 p4p wins under his belt against Henrik Torhammer and Jurmas Uusisto. Russ is expected to be included in the GAMMA Hall of Fame in the near future.
#3 Ein Stein (182566)
8-1 inside GAMMA, 10-1 overall
#1 Ranked 145lbs fighter
2x TWGC
145lbs champ with 3 defenses
Ein had a fantastic year winning 8 of his 9 fights inside GAMMA and 10 of his 11 overall! He is also one of the front runners for the TWGC tournament currently going on where he has already won 2 of his fights (he fights tomorrow in the 1/8 finals). He is also the dominant champion at 145lbs. Probably the only thing keeping him in 3rd is the fact that he fights in the youngest and newest GAMMA division, but that does not take anything away from his achievements as the #1 145lbs fighter of the year.
#4 Kris Hong (204017)
6-1-2 inside GAMMA, 10-1-2 overall (4 fights in GAMMA: Contenders)
#1 Ranked 185lbs fighter
185lbs champion, 1 defense
Kris has had just one loss ALL YEAR and still managed to end up 4th in the rankings. The main reason is that that loss came last month against current 2x champion Arthur Curry where he was the favorite. The fact that Kris had just 9 total fights, (2 of which were draws) in comparison also factor's in his final standing. Kris is still young though and is one of the massive favorites to have the best year in 2015.
