(Thank you E J Gray for the amazing writeup!)

After weeks of anticipation, Vóssler is launching its first ever show. 750 fans are expected to jam themselves in to Wild Bob’s Bar in Tokyo. Everyone in the Mixed Martial Arts world wants to be able to say that they were there for the beginning. Everyone knows that Vóssler is going to make a splash.

Welcome to VR - Genesis.

The birth of a new organisation can bring new life to careers that have faltered. This is true for the very first match in Vóssler where either Owen Xenon (5-11-0) or Sarz “The Flush” Bugs (1-3-0) is going to snap a nasty losing streak. Guessing who will come out victorious is tough. Both men are well matched in all aspects with no defining characteristics that stand out. Perhaps the difference will be Xenon’s greater experience but an educated guess would suggest this battle will see the final bell.

King Typhaze (1-4-0) only knows how to have exciting matches. Win or lose he has never seen the end of the first round. Lord “The King” Susanoo (2-3-0) is nearly as decisive having been involved in first round stoppages in his last four. So the smart money is on this one end quickly and, most probably, viciously. The stand up advantage must go to the former Muay Thai fighter Typhaze but that might be neutralised by the ever-improving wrestling of Susanoo. It seems improbable that the fight won’t hot the deck and there Suansoo will certainly be the favourite.

Tiny “Devil” Frison (0-0-0) makes his bow as a professional against Mark Kilabot (0-2-0). Little is known about either fighter. Frison has never fought before and Kilabot has only fought one opponent who was vastly more experienced. Many expect Frison to favour the clinch as this is rumoured to be his most effective weapon in training, while Kilabot may want to explore the possibilities that Frison is not yet fully up to speed in the grappling department yet. Not much else can be guessed upon in this one.

Few fighter names roll of the tongue like Carter “Papi Chulo” Joes De La Cus (1-3-1) but this Dominican featherweight needs to prove that he really wants to be a top MMA fighter. He gets that chance against another man making his debut in the world of mixed martial arts Jaun “Sue” Lee (0-0-0). Both men are reputably well rounded so only time will tell how each man will approach the fight.

Dominic Hoover (0-2-0) is one tough kid. He survived twice in ONI despite being completely out grappled in both fights. Hoover will face another trial by grappling when he encounters “The” Moe Lester (1-3-1). This strong wrestler has been developing his top game for some time now and looks to have turned a corner against more technical Jiu Jitsu based practitioners. He will be the favourite in this one after Hoover’s previous issues but the striker will always have a punchers’ chance.

Quantifying what Hammer “Thumper” Hands (6-1-0) does particularly well is difficult. Still there is no doubt that he is blessed with an inner steel that allows him to find a way to get the W. Unusually for Hands, he will be very much the favourite when he finds himself starring across the cage at Rebel Lynch (2-14-1). The Spaniard has been one the great triers of the Japanese scene for the past couple of years but he’s never had any success to go with the effort. There is little chance that Lynch’s run changes in this one either.

Little verses large will be the story of the first ever heavyweight fight to happen in Vóssler. Sanford “Crunchy Toad” Fanning (0-0-0) will be outweighed by Katsuo “Warrior” Yuudai (0-0-0) by nearly 60 pounds come fight time. He is also likely to be giving up somewhere in the range of 10 inches in reach. Many will question the wisdom of taking such a fight but it would appear that Fanning is confident that his skill set will be the superior. Of course it’s impossible to gage the accuracy of such claims as no one has seen either man fight. Yet a certain glean in Fanning’s eye tells me that he knows something that we do not.

Per Saukko (0-1-0) and Amos “King Of The Grind” Oz (1-0-0) face a battle of wills to see who comes out on top in their match up. We already know both men favour the clinch so it makes little sense for either men to deviate from such a plan. Yet no one really knows who will be the more affective as neither have enough data.

Saukko will certainly have the leverage advantage being considerably taller than his opponent but this will only work in his favour if he can maintain his base. Oz came into the business with a wrestling background she may be able to unsettle his lankier opponent. Estimating which party is more effective is nigh on impossible until the fight happens. However it will become clear incredibly quickly and someone will have to change to their secondary game plan if they want any hope of victory.

Vóssler's co-main event promises a headline grabbing knockout victory for someone. Head kick enthusiast Frank Dickson (0-2-0) will try his luck against the renown power puncher Boy “All In” Sigesige (5-1-0). This is a more finely balanced fight than records suggest. Neither man has stepped up to competition levels like Vóssler before. This contest could finish in a flash so this would be a bad time to go and get in that extra beer!

There is a great honour in being the first people to headline a show for a new organisation. This privilege has been awarded toTakeshi Tono (3-1-0) and Jose “Alcindo” Matheus (2-2-0). No doubt, both men will be doing everything in their power to show the world why they were deserving.

Tono is the picture of efficiency when on the ground. In all three wins he has taken the fight to the floor and forced his opponent to quit in under three minutes. Critically in his one loss, he was unable to force the takedown and was comprehensively outboxed. This is exactly what “Alcindo” will be planning to do. A classic sprawler brawler, he has exactly the right style to give Tono headaches. Additionally, he has the big finishing capability to find a quick resolution to the contest.

Whoever can implement their game plan first is likely to pick up the victory. The pressure will be immense. It should make a great finale.
