Mick Shaw Q&A

Fighter profile of Kim Shaw by Alika Webb

Q: Dear martial arts fans today I will pay another visit to Mick Shaw. Mick, thanks for agreeing to meet with me again, it's great having you back.

Mick: Thanks for having man, it's always a pleasure.

Q: Mick last time we mostly talked about your personal life but now I'd like to talk about your professional life. I don't want to offend you but your fighting career has grown a little stale has it not? After the last interview a lot of fans came to me and asked if your fighting career may actually be coming to an end. Do you think they could be right?

Mick: I hope not! (laughs) I'm doing my best to stay busy, doing these interview, working hard in the gym and making sure my sparring partners are ready for their next fight. But I see their point, I haven't fought in a while and until I get another fight my career is in limbo. I can only hope that my boss and my manager keep having faith in me and give me another shot, so I can keep doing what I love to do most.

Q: I've been told you're feeling quite at home in Amsterdam. Has your training changed since moving there?

Mick: Absolutely, all coaches have their own way of doing things so I needed some time to adapt. Luckily the transition was fluent and I get along great with my new teammates at Berlin Giants.

Q: You may not have fought yet for Imperial in Amsterdam but you are signed with them, have already checked out some of your competition?

Mick: I don't have a lot to do besides training so I have managed to check out a couple of guys from my division. First of all, Cid Strife is the champ, he's a phenomenal striker.

Q: Checking out the champ he, do you think that he's a good goal for you to pursue?

Mick: He's the champion for a reason, he's doing something right and if I want to make it to his level, I could definitely learn from him. And he's definitely not the only one to keep an eye on. Manolito Damhuis and Savas Bulent are forces to be reckoned with in the middle weight division. And those are just the ones at the top of the food chain.

Q: You definitely kept an eye for possible future opponents, are you that anxious to get into the mix?

Mick: The division is packed and I'd love to get a crack at earning my spot in the division.

Q: There you have it fans, Mick thanks again for another great interview and I look forward to seeing more of you in the future.
