Charles Crawley Q&A

Fighter profile of Charles Crawley by Alika Webb

Q: Dear martial arts fans today I will pay another visit to the first and current Highland Challengers light heavyweight champion, Charles Crawley. Charles, I'd like to start by congratulating you for defending your title for the very first time. What a fight that was! Hamlet Bone was considered a more dynamic fighter and he proved that when he took you down in the beginning of the very first round. Now Charles, you got taken down so soon, what did you think went wrong?

Charles: Nothing really, I expected him to try to take me down and I had set my game plan accordingly but it's not that anything went wrong for me, it's just that his strategy went according to plan.

Q: What went through your head when you got taken down?

Charles: I thought I was screwed! He literally and figuratively knocked me off my feet. I was angry at myself for getting taken down so easily and I needed a couple of seconds to refocus on the battle on the ground. If he had managed to capitalize on that I'd have lost the match and my title.

Q: It's been said that he exposed your weakness in that fight, do think that is true and how will you deal with that?

Charles: Everyone has at least one weakness and if any of my future opponents think they can exploit it, I welcome them to give it a go. Just know that every fight starts on the feet and if it's up to me it will stay there.

Q: Your next fight is set to take place on july eighteenth, how are the preparations going?

Charles: It's going really well actually, I'm taking my time to really soak in everything I'll need for my next fight and so far everything is really coming together.

Q: Did you scout your opponent? I've heard Antero Teeri has been on a tear, you might have your hands full with him.

Charles: I have and me and my coaches have set my game plan accordingly.

Q: Are you worried that everything might not go according to plan like in your last fight?

Charles: Absolutely. But now I'll be better prepared next time I get taken by surprise. And who knows, next time I might have a surprise of my own ...

Q: I'm intrigued but I'm afraid we've run out of time, Charles thanks again for another great interview and I wish you the best in your next fight.
