Hi Everyone, I’m Nick James (104699) and this is your preview of UPF Wednesday Night Fights 5 (838944). The card was made possible by UPF owner Dale Saw (77197) and we have Jamie McKenna (26734) to thank for arranging the fights. The card features ten fights, with Bruce Wayne taking on Taiki Tsubasa in the main event. Also featured on the card are bouts including top fighters Mark Davidson, Bobby Evans, Takeshi Tono and Lvn LN. The event will take place on Wednesday, the 13th of August at Hard Knocks arena in Hilo, get your ticket now to avoid disappointment. I’d also like to give a special thanks to Sportsmanship Ltd. Where you can get top of the line clothing from Montreal Canada. I believe Sportsmanship Ltd. Is up for sale, so if you’re interested in running a clothing company and are VIP, go buy it and please remove the “ROLE MODEL” line of shirts as I find them offensive.

Lightweight Bout - Sazh Estheim (263903) [The Broken Halo Pride] vs Isaac Messiah (268978) [Convicted Inc]

We have a strong bout to start off the evening as 20 year olds Sazh Estheim and Isaac Messiah both make their UPD debuts. Estheim a native of Denmark is set to make is professional debut as well as his UPF debut in this bout. He is managed by Tom Violence (38684), who is a 500+ fight veteran with a win/loss ratio of 2.15:1, so we can surely expect big things from Estheim. His opponent, Messiah, is a native of the Vatican City, it must have been a tough childhood for him, growing up in a city of priests, so we can either expect him to have extraordinary mental strength, or be mentally unstable. Unlike his opponent, Messiah does have a professional record, but unfortunately it is 0-1. It’s been five months since the loss, so we can expect him to be back as a completely different fighter. He is managed by Choose Life (3393), who is even more of a veteran than Violence, with over 850 fights to his name and a win/loss ratio of 2.32:1. This is a very tough bout to call, Estheim has better grappling, but Messiah has better striking. The outcome will most likely go in the favour of the fighter whose manager plays his cards right, but I’m going to say Estheim will pick up the win using his superior wrestling.

Welterweight Bout - Lance Kilkenny (268784) [House of Torment] vs Caius Baasch (263902) [The Broken Halo Pride]

Tom Violence (38684) won’t even have to move after the first fight, as another one of his fighters, Caius Baasch, has a fight against Lance Kilkenny. Kilkenny is a 20 year old Irishman, who has a record of 1-1 under Tinker LaSalle (67686), who is a highly experienced and highly successful manager. Kilkenny’s loss came outside UPF, but he made his debut at UPF 5 with a quick TKO win over Georg Steffensen. Tonight’s opponent, Baasch, presents a very different threat. Baasch, a Denmark native, aged 20, has never fought professionally, but we know he is quite a remarkable talent. Once again we seem to have a case of striker vs grappler, with Kilkenny having superior striking and his counterpart Baasch having superior grappling. Some might say I’m biased as I’m a BJJ practitioner and grappling fan myself, but I’m going with the grappler in this bout too, I just don’t think Kilkenny can stop the takedowns and defend off of his back against a wrestler of Baasch’s quality.

Heavyweight Bout - Nick "Knytmare" Kennedy (265312) vs Etro Kreiss (263907) [The Broken Halo Pride]

I hope Tom Violence (38684) can find somewhere comfortable to sit, as yet another one of his fighters, Etro Kreiss, has been pitted against Nick Kennedy. Kennedy, a 27 year old American, who has a record of 4-6 under manager Nick Barnhart (102907). Kennedy had a promising start to his career, but has lost his last five fights, all by way of TKO within 3 minutes, demonstrating his glass chin. Coming into his UPF debut, Kennedy will be hoping to turn things around, but Etro Kreiss is a big ask. Kreiss is another Dane, who is 7 years younger than his opponent at age 20. He has never fought professionally before, I’m seeing a pretty clear pattern here. While Kreiss is a better grappler than he is striker, the one area Kennedy has the advantage is in BJJ. Kreiss’ boxing his very good too and his wrestling is far too good for him to be taken down by Kennedy. Add this to the fact that Kennedy has been stopped easily by strikers who are inferior to Kreiss, and we have a pretty clear indication of how this fight will go.

Featherweight Bout - Joaquin "The Heat" Herrera (275724) [LEGION OF DOOM] vs Marcio "Marcinho" Andre (267693) [LEGION OF DOOM]

Our next bout moves away from Tom Violence’s men, but still feature’s two youngsters in Joaquin Herrera and Marcio Andre. Herrera, an 18 year old Spaniard, is coming into this bout with a record of 1-0, after picking up a win against Everaldo Junior at UPF 8. He and his manager Dr. Jones (105245) will be hoping to make it 2-0 tonight, but are faced with a very crafty opponent in Marcio Andre. Andre is two years the elder of his opponent and is a native of Brazil. Managed by Rodrigo Rojas (101547), The BJJ black belt has a record of 1-1, but lost his UPF debut against Kang Gae Ri. Herrera is a very well rounded fighter, so he has a striking advantage over Andre who is purely a grappler. Despite this, his all-round style will be his downfall, as I don’t believe his wrestling is good enough to defend the takedowns of Andre and will not be able to hold off for very long on the ground against a BJJ black belt.

Bantamweight Bout - Andries Habel (262088) [LEGION OF DOOM] vs Fernando Vazquez (268993)

Fight five is a bantamweight fight between Andries Habel and Fernando Vazquez. Habel, a 21 year old Kiwi, currently has a record of 2-2 under manager Jake Goldman (87807). He has fought once in UPF, beating Come Away at UPF 8 in less than a minute. His opponent tonight, Vazquez, is a 20 year old, untested, Spanish fighter under the management of Sulka González (103331). Vazquez is believed to possess skills in all areas of MMA as well as exceptionally strong Muay Thai. I’m predicting Vazquez to win this one. Habel is well rounded, but will be out classed on the feet, and getting takedowns is likely to be a struggle, and even if he succeeds in getting one, he will likely struggle to put Vazquez away.

Lightweight Bout - "Dazzling" David Pastrnak (268496) [LEGION OF DOOM] vs Matt "The Moose" Gentry (272011) [Cold Blooded Killers]

The next bout sees us move up to 155 as the Czech David Pastrnak takes on Canadian Matt Gentry. At 20 years old, Pastrnak has a record of 1-1 under the management of Cj Slothenstein (56791). Pastrnak’s only win came in his UPF debut against Chris John last month. I’m sure he will be hoping to go two in a row, but his opponent will have something to say about that. Matt Gentry is a year younger than his opponent and only has a loss to his name. He is managed by Jesse Bowes (64895), who is a highly successful manager with over 150 wins to his name. I’m going to go with Gentry to win in his UPF debut. It’s a tough call, but his wrestling and high level management will see him through.

Welterweight Bout - Jose "Mini Mini" Da Silva (275266) vs Lvn "Gangsta" LN (276974) [LEGION OF DOOM]

Fight seven, 25 year old Jose Da Silva takes on the 18 year old Lvn LN. Da Silva, a native of Brazil, likes to fight on the ground, which saw him win his first two fights. His third fight was his UPF debut, which he lost to Dick Whittaker. Hey, that’s my guy! Da Silva and his manager Anonim Manager (105276) would like to make his record 3-1 with a win against LN tonight. LN is an American and is also a grappler. LN has a record of 1-0 under manager Root Beer (98898) and is set to make his UPF debut. LN really only has BJJ skills, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing against Da Silva. Da Silva is a grappler, but is not as proficient at BJJ as LN, so he will be left with two choices. He will either use his superior wrestling to take the fight to the matt and risk being submitted by LN, or he will keep the fight standing where he should have an advantage, but will be largely out of his element. Either way, I don’t see him beating LN, if he takes LN down, LN will submit him off of his back, and if he strikes, LN will capitalise on weak stand up skills with a takedown. It is also likely that Da Silva has poor takedown defence abilities, as guys who like to fight on the mat are usually less concerned with defending takedowns.

Featherweight Bout - Cristoff Melkovick (273805) vs Takeshi Tono (261500)

Up next, Polish native Cristoff Melkovick takes on Japanese fighter Takeshi Tono. Melkovick, at 23 year old, has a record of 3-0 under manager Henry Rollins (99742). His most recent win was in his UPF debut at UPF 6, which saw him defeat Billy Hope Jr. His opponent tonight, Takeshi Tono, is 3 years his elder and is a much more experienced fighter. Tono, managed by Ben Jammins (101972), has a record of 5-2, but will be making his UPF debut in this bout. This is of of the easiest bouts to call on the card. Melkovick has a promising future, but right now, Tono is a better grappler and a better striker and will be coming into the fight fresher, which will see him pick up a win in his UPF debut.

Co-Main Event

Lightweight Bout - Mark Davidson (265092) vs Bobby "The Butcher" Evans (272020) [Tycoon Alliance]

The co-main event will features Australian, Mark Davidson and American, Bobby Evans. Mark Davidson, at 20 years old, has a record of 4-3 under manager Mike Watt (36111). Despite the record, Mark Davidson is on a bit of a tear with a current win streak, which includes wins in both of his UPF fights, which saw him beat Andrew Jackson (who hasn’t beaten that guy?) and Peter Angelov. His opponent tonight, Bobby Evans, is five years his elder, but has significantly less fight experience. Managed by H-man Parrilla (42135), Evans has a record of 1-1 and is set to make his UPF debut. This is another case of one fighter just being a bit better everywhere. Mark Davidson should win this fight with relative ease, and will get to choose to fight on the feet or on the ground.

Main Event

Welterweight Bout - Bruce "Batman" Wayne (261562) [LEGION OF DOOM] vs Taiki Tsubasa (270843) [Polish Eagles’ Nest]

And finally, the main event, Bruce Wayne takes on Taiki Tsubasa at Welterweight. 22 year old Bruce Wayne seems to have decided Gotham isn’t worth saving after all and has come to Hilo to fight in UPF. Wayne seems to have decided that Alfred was a good butler, but not a very good MMA manager and after winning five fights with Alfred, he left him on the side of the road somewhere and went off with Rabid Alien (102643). After extending his record to 6-0, Alien brought Wayne to us at UPF and is all set to make his debut. His opponent Tsubasa is three years younger than Wayne and is a native of Japan. Managed by Jacob What (28944), a 500+ fight veteran, Tsubasa has a record of 2-1 and is also set to make his UPF debut. Although Tsubasa will be coming in a little tired due to late travelling, I’m still going with him for the win. He outclasses Wayne on the feet and should be able to defend takedown attempts.

Good luck to all fighters and managers on the card!
