UPF Wednesday Night Fights 13 Review

UPF Wednesday Night Fights 13 took place on Wednesday, November 11th at Hayashi's Lounge in Hilo. Having 10 booked fights and a fully packed house, the event scored an event rating of 120.24, one of the best for a Wednesday night event here at UPF. So here are the fights that happened that night.

135lb - Malik Billings (3-0 UPF) vs Roni Sabian (0-1 UPF) - Fight of the Night
Starting with the undercard, Malik Billings showed his dominance in this fight, only allowing Roni to throw one punch, which didn't land. Sabian had a disappointing debut and was looking to get back on track, but Billings had other plans. And, he is working his way to fight the champ in convincing fashion.
Winner - Malik Billings def. Roni Sabian by KO (Superman Punch) in round 1 at 0:30.

135lb - Yaseen Kruger (0-0 UPF) vs Joe "Killer" Killer (1-3 UPF) - KO of the Night
Yaseen Kruger was making his debut in the match up against the more experienced fighter, Killer, who was unable to really do much of anything. Kruger came out swinging and finished off Joe early with a brutal KO that left Killer confused, not knowing exactly what just happened. Yaseen picked up KO of the Night with that awesome finish.
Winner - Yaseen Kruger def. Joe Killer by TKO (Strikes) in round 1 at 0:55.

155lb - Curt "The Hurt" Wooten (2-3 UPF) vs Chael Blanket (0-0 UPF) - Sub of the Night
Blanket was making his debut here against UPF veteran Wooten. Wooten wasn't on track prior to this fight, coming into it riding a 3 fight losing streak. And, Blanket, having lost his only fight was looking to start his winning ways. Unfortunately for Chael, Wooten had other plans and allowed Chael the takedown and went to work on his limbs. It wasn't long before Blanket was forced to tap or have his arm broken.
Winner - Curt Wooten def. Chael Blanket by Submission (Armbar) in round 1 at 0:49.

205lb - Keo Kalanie (0-0 UPF) vs Hank Olamon (0-0 UPF)
Both of these fighters made there UPF debuts in this fight. Olamon was not only making his UPF debut but he was also making his MMA professional debut. And it was a hell of a showing for the young man. Before the bell Olamon had a look of a true madman in his eyes, a complete psychotic look that threw Kalanie off his gameplan completely. Olamon noticed this and as the bell rung "Olamon lands with a right and another and another! Kalanie is in big trouble! Olamon lands again and this time it's lights out for Kalanie! A quality knockout there for Olamon."
Winner - Hank Olamon def. Keo Kalanie by KO (Strikes) in round 1 at 0:05.

265+lb - Landry "Sunshine" Sullivan (0-0 UPF) vs Aaron "Beast" Work (0-4 UPF)
Sullivan was making his UPF debut here. This was Work's 5th UPF appearance. Work was riding a 3 fight winning streak prior to joining the UPF. But, since then he has been on a downward spiral. He came into this fight on a 4 fight losing streak and was looking to get back to the victory side of things. Work was unable to effectively execute his gameplan against Sullivan. And, Work was knocked down, rocked, cut open, and knocked out all prior to 30 seconds into the fight. What a debut by Sullivan.
Winner - Landry Sullivan def. Aaron Work by KO (Punches) in round 1 at 0:22.

135lb - Kari "Lights Out" Tenhunen (2-2 UPF) vs Andries Habel (2-2 UPF)
Two UPF veterans. Kari is the former champ and wanted to prove that he deserves another shot at the belt. Habel is an up and comer in the UPF. Habel made quick work of the former champ on Wednesday. With an early takedown Habel dominated the entire fight and kept it on the ground, despite the fact that Kari had the better wrestling. Habel ground and pounded his opponent until eventually  Tenhunen was forced to tap under the succession of punches by Habel. An upset Tenhunen had this to say after the fight "F@$k that I want a rematch"
Winner - Andries Habel def. Kari Tenhunen by Submission (Strikes) in round 1 at 1:37.

185lb - Andrew Ellis (0-0 UPF) vs Vrushak Madhura (3-2 UPF)
Ellis made a statement in his debut, fighting against UPF veteran Madhura. Madhura was 4-3 coming into this fight, while Ellis was 3-1. Round 1 Ellis secured a early takedown then tried a few sub attempts and controlled for a few minutes, then Madhura tried a few subs himself. But, overall Ellis got the better of Madhura in round 1. Round 2 Madhura gets the clinch and Ellis tries a few takedowns which fail but does manage to land a shoot takedown just before the one minute mark, both fighters battle for position for a while with a few sub attempts from both fighters thrown in there. In the end of the round Madhura had got the better of Ellis. Each fight had won a round going into the final round. Madhura scores with both a clinch and then a takedown within 30 seconds of the round. Both fighters struggle for position and Ellis is chipping away with the ground and pound. Overall the fight was fought about 30 seconds in the clinch, which I'd say neither fighter had the advantage really, about a minute stand up and I'd say Madhura won that aspect and the remaining 13 1/2 minutes on the mat, which was a close battle but Ellis had the edge. In the end Judge Colin Fray scores the fight 29:28, Judge Ryoma Takatsuka scores the fight 29:28, Judge Paul Gruel scores the fight 29:28. In favor of your winner, by unanimous decision... Andrew Ellis!
Winner - Andrew Ellis def. Vrushak Madhura by Decision (Unanimous).

170lb - Lance Kilkenny (4-1 UPF) vs AJ "Masters" The Perfectionist (0-0 UPF)
Kilkenny was on his way to the top to face the champion when he met "Masters" inside the octagon. AJ, making his debut, wanted to show the world that he is UPF championship material. And, after his performance against the UPF vet. I'm incline to believe it. Kilkenny was trying to keep himself unpredictable by throwing everything in his arsenal at AJ. But, AJ just kept smiling and pushing forward and eventually scored with a perfectly timed right hook and this one was all over.
Winner - AJ The Perfectionist def. Lance Kilkenny by KO (Punch) in round 2 at 1:54.

170lb - Snake Jackson (4-2 UPF) vs Yeriza Intagilokali (0-0 UPF)
Again it's veteran vs debutant as Intagilokali made his debut as well on Wednesday. And, it was a good one. Jackson was unable to much of anything in this fight as Intagilokali dominated all three rounds to pick up an easy decision victory.
Winner - Yeriza Intagilokali def. Snake Jackson by Decision (Unanimous).

170 - "Bate Pepo" Peter Angelov (5-2 UPF) vs "The Egyptian Armstrong" Mustafiq Rana (6-2 UPF)
The former middleweight champion Mustafiq Rana has not seen much success since dropping down in divisions going 1-1. And this fight wasn't much different, Angelov finished off the former middleweight champ in quick fashion with beautiful counter hook.
Winner - Peter Angelov def. Mustafiq Rana by KO (Punch) in round 1 at 0:19.
