DCF Fight Night #1 Preview

Event Preview: DCF Fight Night #1
DC Fighting
2015-12-19, Hilo, Micro Arena - Hilo
Author:Yamashita Craven

Hey there everyone! It's almost time for our first event ever, this saturday - We have a lot of good matches that could go either way. For all of you with fights this saturday, here is a quick overview of your fight!

#10 Jim Thorpe v. Fred Jackson

This looks to be a close one. Both fighters are 185 pounds, and Thorpe only has the height advantage by 1 cm. This is the dubut fight for both fighters. Jackson is slightly more skilled with his Muay Thai, but not as skilled at Boxing, or Wrestling. Both fighters are equal on the ground however, so it seems the only advantage to be found may be in the clinch, for Thorpe. It might be a good gameplan to clinch when possible, in order to outperform Jackson.

Prediction: Jim Thorpe wins by Decision

#9 Destin Craven v. Alex Robbins

Another very even fight. These two fighters are both 170 pounds, and almost identical in their skill at BJJ, Wrestling, and Boxing. Craven will have a good advantage in the standup game however, as he is 6 cm taller, and has slightly better Muay Thai. Alex will want to try to make this a ground game in order to negate Craven's advantage.

Prediction: Destin Craven wins by decision

#8 Hugo Chavez v. Lenya Begemot

This fight is really going to come down to who can execute their gameplan. Lenya has a 5 pound, 5 cm advantage. Lenya is also 5 years older than Hugo, and already has two pro fights under his belt. At first glance, it looks like Lenya should be the easy victor in this fight. However, Hugo can only win by striking - which means the 5 extra pounds he is carrying, is really a disadvantage as it will slow him down while he is on his feet. Though Hugo is younger, and has less experience - his ground game is much better than Lenya's. If Hugo can bring this fight to thr ground, it is almost a sure win for Chavez, in the studs debut fight. However if Lenya stays on his feet long enough, it is only a matter of time before Hugo gets KO'd. Right now Lenya has pretty low morale, which could also become a factor in the fight. If Lenya does not improve his morale then Hugo has yet another advantage - making this a very interesting fight, and a very tough prediction.

Prediction: Hugo Chavez wins by Submission in the second round

#7 Javier Tascon v. James Gattis

This will be the second career fight for both Javier and James. James is 4 cm taller, and slightly better at both boxing, and muay thai - meaning he has a pretty large advantage on his feet. With this said, he is also slightly more adept at BJJ - meaning he might be more efficient on the ground as well (which becomes more apparent when you factor in that James is 7 pounds heavier than Javier.) This makes things interesting because Javier's lethal weapon, is his wrestling. Javier is an extremely talented wrestler. However the 7 pounds advantage that James has, might make it harder for Javier to controll his opponent. Luckily for Javier, he has a little bit of skill in striking, however James should dominate the standup game. It seems like it is going to take a creative gameplan for Javier to compete in this one

Prediction: James Gattis wins by KO in the third round

#6 Cerrone Clark v. Roger Haitu

Roger Haitu is 7 years older, 6 cm taller, and 2 pounds heavier than his opponent Cerrone Clark. Roger is much better in the standup game (both boxing and muay thai) and even has slightly better wrestling than Cerrone. In summary, this means that Cerrone has a huge advantage over Cerrone while on his feet. Not only is he taller, meaning he has a longer reach - but he is also slightly lighter, meaning he is in better shape, and will be able to strike and defend more quickly. Plus, he has good wrestling and should be able to stay on his feet. Cerrone's one hope is that he will be able to get Roger on the ground. If Cerrone can clinch with Roger, and then use his extra weight to take his opponent down - Cerrone has a big advantage on the mat, and might be able to submit Roger. The one advantage that Cerrone has, is experience - he has fought 3 professional fights, while Roger has only fought 1. Hopefully, Cerrone can use his BJJ skill and his intelligence to pull off a win on saturday night - but most likely, Cerrone's superior striking will win him the fight.

Prediction: Cerrone Clark wins by KO in the second round

#5 Sean Cox v. Henry Marquet

Coming into this fight, both fighters only have 1 pro fight under their belt. This fight is a tale of two strategies - Sean Cox is a great ground fighter, while Henry Marquet is a sensational striker. This really is a game of "who can finish first?" Between the two. If Henry can stay on his feet, he should be able to KO Sean. However if Sean manages to take Henry down, it is almost a sure win for Sean. Henry will hope his 4 pound weight advantage will make it easier for him to controll if he is taken down, and pray that the referee stands the two up. If Sean does not manage to take Henry down however, the 1 cm height advantage may be all it takes for Henry to knock Sean out. This is a very tough prediction as the fight could go either way.

Prediction: Sean Cox wins by Submission in the second round

#4 Johnny Bones v. Lima Santos

Once again we see a case of "stiker vs. grappler" with the #4 fight on our card. Johnny is 8cm taller, and 10 pounds lighter - plus, he has an extreme advantage in his muay thai skills. If the fight stays off of the ground for too long, Johnny surely has the skills needed to knock Lima out. Johnny also has a little bit of skill in wrestling - however this is where Lima excels. Lima is marginally better at wrestling, and has skill in another area that Johnny does not - BJJ. Lima is heavy enough that if he gets Johnny to the ground, his superior BJJ gives him a big advantage. Plus, Johnny's 8 cm height difference means he has lanky limbs, and will be easy for Lima to submit without as much effort. Although this fight seems to be in Johnny's favor due to his well rounded skillset (compared to Lima's) I think Lima will be able to get Johnny on the ground and make something happen.

Prediction: Lima wins by submission in the third round, and becomes DCF's first ever 205 pound champion!

#3 Jose Miguel v. Mike Johnson

This is going to be one of the closer fights of the night. Both fighters have one fight under their belt, and both weight te same, 170 pounds. In theory, the striking advantage should be in Jose's favor, as he is 6 cm taller than Mike - However, Mike actually has more skill in both Boxing and Muay Thai. To me, this means it is going to be pretty even in the striking department. On the ground, Jose clearly has more skill than Mike - However Mike has shorter limbs, meaning it will be tough for Jose to submit him without a great skill difference. And what makes this fight exciting, is that both fighters are very well rounded, and have at least a little bit of skill in all areas of MMA. This should be somewhat even both while standing, and while on the mat. I think this fight is going to come down to which fighter can score more points. The more aggressive fighter will probably win. However, Mike has to watch out for Jose's striking - Jose won his first and only MMA fight by stirking his opponent while he was down - if Jose manages to land a couple of big shots, he could win this fight without a submission. With that said, if Mike is the more aggressive fighter, he could land a lucky shot himself. Either way, this will be a fun fight to watch, which is why it landed itself #3 on our card.

Prediction: Jose Miguel wins by decision.  (I want to give this fight to Mike, but Jose's 6 year age difference makes him hard to bet against)

#2 Mike Graves v Clint Hester

Our co-main event of the evening looks to be an exciting story of "can the underdog break his losing streak?"  Clint Hester seems to be the favorite to win this fight, as he is taller; older; and he has won 3 consecutive MMA fights by KO or decision. He has a large boxing advantage, and is 4 cm taller than his opponent making Clint a very dangerous man in the standup game. However, the underdog Mike Graves has a superior wrestling game, and shorter limbs, meaning he will be more effective on the ground. Although the underdog is 2 years younger, and has lost his last 4 fights in a row - I think this may be the perfect fight for him to overcome his struggles and turn things around. He has the skill to hold Clint off on his feet, and superior ground/clinch skills. If Mike can butter Clint up with some accurate strikes, and then shoot in for a takedown, he has a real chance at winning this fight. Mike even has one extra MMA fight under his belt, so hopefully he will be able to use his experience to put together a strong gameplan and take down Clint.

Prediction: Mike Graves wins  by submission in the third round. (In all reality this looks to be a win for Clint - but you can't root against the underdog!)

#1 - Main Event Of the Evening, and 185 Pound Title!

Casey Bowman v. Jake Gurel

Welcome everyone, to our main event of the evening! Two of the best fighters at DCF, Jake Gurel and Casey Bowman will be facing off in the biggest match of the night - the 185 division title fight. Both fighters are the same height - but that is where the similarities end. Casey is four years younger and much, much heavier than Jake. This would seem to give Jake a large advantage - however Casey is, simply put, a much better fighter. He is a better Boxer, wrestler, submission artist, and much better at muay thai. This fight is going to come down to hard work, vs. genetics. Casey has trained all his life for this moment, and has become an extremely talented fighter - while Jake simply has age and light weight on his side. He will probably be in much better shape coming into the fight, and he has twice the MMA experience that Casey has. Plus, he is 4 years older, and in theory more wise. Like I said before, this skill is going to come down to Effort and Skill, vs. great genetics. If Jake pulls this one off, it will almost surely be due to his MMA pedigree, and superior fitness. However if Casey can use his superior skill to end the fight early, he will prove to us once and for all that Hard work really does pay off.

Prediction: Casey Bowman wins by KO in the first round, becoming the first ever DCF 185 champion, in spectacular fashion!

With that said - good luck to all of you fighting five days from now! Hopefully you all come prepared for your fight, and give it the best you've got. We'll see you then.
