SLAUGHTERHOUSE 11 RECAP

UNDERCARD
Vincenzo Stohr v Segundo Garcia – 145 lbs
**Submission of the Night**

Segundo Garcia's MMA debut went about as well as you could expect – he ate a few punches but quickly wrestled the Italian to the floor and locked in a triangle for the early finish. Garcia is still a Jiu Jitsu white belt but showed great technique here and the future looks promising for the 18 year old wrestler. Garcia parted ways with management after this fight (we can only speculate why) so it will be interesting to see if anyone picks up the free agent.

Result: Garcia by first round submission.

John Armiger v Fenton Hilton – 155 lbs

Hilton continued his winning streak with a victory over young boxer John Armiger in this lightweight matchup. Hilton took Armiger into the clinch early in round one and try as he might the youngster could just not break free from Hilton's grasp. As usual Hilton's inside fighting was dominant – he landed a total of fifty seven strikes from within the clinch. As round two got underway the damage had clearly taken it's toll on Armiger and a right hook to the temple had him on the floor, Hilton allowed the youngster back to his feet but soon followed up with an overhand right which dropped Armiger to the floor yet again and this one was all over. This win now puts Hilton in good stead as he moves up the lightweight rankings and could feasibly be mounting a title challenge in the not so distant future.

Result: Hilton by second round (T)KO.

Armen Aharonian v Miguel Fernandez – 185 lbs
**Knockout of the Night**

Aharonian stunned the veteran with a sensational first round KO by way of head kick which put Fernandez out cold. The young Armenian went into this fight with an aggressive gameplan and it paid off here as he exited the cage victorious in just one minute a twenty seconds. A win on his debut and a big statement to the rest of the division; it's still early days for Aharonian but if he continues to perform like this he could well be on the way to a very successful career in Slaughterhouse. Fernandez will be disappointed he wasn't able to break his losing streak here, but the Mexican remains one of the most technically gifted fighters at middleweight and may well have a statement or two to make the next time we see him in the cage.

Result: Aharonian by first round KO.

Eli Frankham v Dante Collins – 265+ lbs

Frankham barely had time to initiate the clinch as Collins stormed forward with a barrage of punches to end this fight in just one minute thirty. This was Collins tenth MMA appearance and he will be delighted to end this one with a straight knockout as a delicious hook connected to put Frankham out cold. The Englishman was always going to be a threat on the inside but in this instance it was the boxing of the American which stood true – Collins connected time after time and with his reputation for knockouts this bout rapidly became a question of when he would finish the fight rather than if. A debutant victory for Collins and he will be pleased to emerge from the cage relatively unscathed.

Result: Collins by first round KO.

Cappy Christian v Johann Kessler – 170 lbs

Both of these opponents are accomplished inside fighters so it was no surprise to see them battle it out in the clinch. What was perhaps more surprising was that Kessler didn't try to change tactics when it became clear Christian was getting the upperhand.

For fifteen minutes Christian bombarded his opponent with a series of knees, elbows and punches and although Kessler did manage to connect with some strikes of his own he made little effort to either break the clinch or drag Christian to the ground. We went to the scorecards and unsurprisingly all three judges scored this bout in the Australian's favour. The Muay Thai fighter now celebrates his twentieth career victory and we hope to see the veteran back at Slaughterhouse pending a contract renegotiation. A set back for Kessler but he will be looking to bounce back in the near future – a potential matchup with Sammy Owens has been discussed.

Result: Christian by decision.

Franklin Jackson v Sweet Jones – 170 lbs Title Fight
**Fight of the Night**

Jackson and Jones engaged in a five round war for control of the welterweight title. The champion was determined to take this fight into the clinch but Jackson proved more than his match as the challenger connected with punches both inside and out.

Not to be outdone Jones fired back with knees and elbows of his own but it wasn't enough to turn the tide of this bout. In addition to his outstanding clinchwork, Jackson also scored points with the takedown although Jones did show good grappling skills to reverse positions and was generally able to get back to his feet without too many problems. While Jones showed great durability throughout this fight he was ultimately outworked by the American and it was no surprise to see the Jackson walk away the winner thanks to a unanimous decision from the judges.

This is Jackson's third title he has picked up in as many organisations and we will see how well he defends the belt in his next matchup against Armani Cabrera. Jones' next fight is yet to be confirmed and understandably he will need some time to recover from the attrition sustained over this bout. The welterweight division is certainly proving to be volatile at the top – so far we have had three different champions, both Kezz “Thorn” and Jones struggled to maintain control of the belt so it will be interesting to see if Jackson can break the pattern.

Result: Jackson by decision.

Silvio Crespo v Mashrafe Mortaza – 145 lbs

Crespo maintained his undefeated record with a second round stoppage of Mashrafe Mortaza. The young Argentinian started this fight out with some thunderous boxing but Mortaza was able to keep his wits and soon pulled Crespo to the ground with a double leg takedown.

The Jiu Jitsu brown belt immediately began looking for the submission but Crespo (still only a blue belt) showed some excellent awareness to reverse the position and was able to secure the referee standup by keeping Mortaza's limbs locked up. We went to the second round and Crespo quickly tackled Mortaza into the cage as he tried to shoot for the takedown; with Mortaza now up against the cage the youngster showed some great clinch ability as he pounded the older fighter repeatedly with a series of inside shots.

Mortaza did his best to pull guard but ate far too many shots in the process and soon a big uppercut had him on his back and the referee jumped in to call this bout to halt. Crespo now goes to 7-0 and with this performance he has earned himself a shot at the inaugural featherweight title – he will face Algerian boxer Count Chocula in the Slaughterhouse New Year fixture in what should be another entertaining bout. Mortaza now goes to 1-1 in Slaughterhouse but can perhaps consider himself unlucky to have run into the talented youngster.

Result: Crespo by second round (T)KO.

Bruce Hardman v Imperiex Prime – 265 lbs

How quickly things can turn around in the course of just a few seconds. Prime rocked Hardman early with a delicious combination which sent him spinning to the floor but the American regained his footing and clipped the Greek boxer with a right hand which put him out cold.

Quite the turnaround and if not for Aharonian's stunning knockout earlier in the night this performance would definitely have earned Hardman a post-fight bonus award. Hardman now goes 3-2 in Slaughterhouse and will meet Magnus Cross next in their first rematch on January 9th. Prime will be looking to bounce back from this loss as he takes on Bernard Bear the following week – the Greek is still looking for his first victory in Slaugterhouse but with his dangerous right hand he may not have to wait all that long.

Result: Hardman by first round (T)KO.

CO-MAIN EVENT
Otocanin Zmija v Paulo Lazaro – 265+ lbs Title Fight

Lazaro wasted no time in wresting control of the super heavyweight belt from Zmija's hands. The man from Panama specifically targeted Zmija's head with his punches and it paid off big time as a beautiful hook connected at just past the two minute mark to put the Barbadian out cold. Zmija barely had time to start looking for the takedown such was the dominance of Lazaro's performance.

Lazaro isn't really noted for his boxing so it was great to see his timing and accuracy fully on display here – Zmija did a good job of evading his clinch but in the end that mattered for little here. Lazaro will be delighted to pick up his first title belt and in addition will be pleased to record a victory in his first fight under new management. Meanwhile the submission specialist will be disappointed he was unable to maintain control of the belt here, however Zmija is still only 26 and has ample time to make improvements to his standup – his next fight is yet to be confirmed but understandably he may need some time off to recover from this particular matchup.

Result: Lazaro by first round KO.

MAIN EVENT
RP McMurphy v Magnus Cross – 265 lbs Title Fight

With all the trash talk out of the way we finally got to see this much heralded matchup. McMurphy started this bout by connecting with some nice counter shots and just as Cross was swinging away at air he shot in with the takedown. From the ground McMurphy seldom lets opponents off the hook and sure enough he punished the champion here by progressing into mount and putting the lights out on Cross.

In typical fashion McMurphy wasted no time in celebrating his victory with some more of his patented trash talk: “easy money, just like I said, some 23 year old kid isn't going to get in my way” alongside some advice for the recently departed champ: “work those ground skills and come see me in a few years if you're still around, hope this will be a lesson to you.” Suffice to say we suspect Cross doesn't appreciate McMurphy's advice but he has a chance to start working himself back into title contention with a victory over Bruce Hardman in January.

Meanwhile McMurphy will be looking to defend his newly gained title as he takes on Michael D Amato at New Year – Amato is currently coming off a two fight winning streak and could be a tough test for the newly crowned champion, Cross successfully defended his belt three times so it will be interesting to see if McMurphy can continue in that vain.

Result: McMurphy by first round KO.
