Mark Corden Q&A

Fighter profile of Mark Corden by Alika Webb

Q: The newest season of the popular Island challenge has officially begun. The fifth Island's first organization - Island FC - has officially opened its doors and started booking its first event. To celebrate the start of the fifth season we decided to pay a visit to one of the fighters already confirmed to be fighting on this historic event. Mark Corden and his opponent Alpha Gamma will represent the bantamweight division. Mark, since not much is known about you, would you be so kind to introduce yourself to our readers?

Mark: My name is Mark Corden, I'm 25 years old and I'm ready for the toughest challenge of my life on the island. I'm one of the lucky few to get noticed and signed by the first organization on the island and I'm ready to prove I'm a worthy addition to the bantamweight division.

Q: Now Mark, you have yet to make your debut and the same thing goes for your opponent, that means that you have no idea what your opponent brings to the table. Does that influence your strategy and does that affect you mentally?

Mark: In a way it certainly does as you need to be wary about everything, you have no idea what your opponent has in his repertoire and need to be very careful with your strategy. But at the end of the day you need to have confidence in your skills and your coaches and put on the best performance you can because if you're too fearful of what your opponent may do to you than you've already lost.

Q: What do you know about your opponent - Alpha Gamma?

Mark: I know that he's got an incredible manager; Bjorn O'Donnel is the number one manager from Belgium and a force to be reckoned with. He'll undoubtedly get his new prodigy ready to fight and have a solid strategy up his sleeve come fight time.

Q: I've heard that your manager is also from Belgium, is that correct?

Mark: That is indeed correct.

Q: Now we've already established Bjorn is the best manager in Belgium and since your manager is also from Belgium that means that Bjorn is on paper the superior manager. Do you fear that might influence the outcome of your fight?

Mark: I'm not worried about that at all. Bjorn is a phenomenal manager but he's not going to be in that cage. In the cage it'll just be me and Gamma and only one of us can walk out of there victorious and if I have anything to say on that matter than that person will be me.

Q: How are preparing yourself for the fight?

Mark: I've joined the newest gym on the island in the hope that I can still train a little before the fight but I doubt that it'll matter. Gamma's still training in the notorious Cozad gym and we both know that the little time we have left before our fight isn't enough to train in a way that it can influence our fight.

Q: Mark, I'd like to thank you for doing this interview and I wish you the best in your next fight.
