Kira Miyata Q&A

Fighter profile of Kira Miyata by Alika Webb

Q: Dear martial arts fans today I will pay a visit to a rising star in the featherweight division in the world-renowned Global Association of MMA, or GAMMA in short. Kira "Gaijin" Miyata was born in Japan, but his mother came from America.

Therefore the Japanese always considered him a foreigner or gaijin as the Japanese call it. After years of bullying by local yankees which are Japanese delinquents he started training in Judo. After winning a few street fights he decided he was ready to fight professionally.

Kira, last time we spoke you had just faced a guy named Yuya Shimizu for the very first time. You unfortunately lost and after the match you said you simply got dominated by a better fighter and that you had learned something from that fight. Do you remember what you said you learned from your first fight?

Kira: I said that you should never pick a fight with Yuya Shimizu (laughs).

Q: That's right, now imagine my surprise when the rematch was announced.

Kira: I accepted the rematch because fighting is my job so and I can't afford myself the luxury of turning fights down especially not when they make sense. A lot has happened since the first fight and I felt I had improved and matured enough to give Yuya a tougher challenge than last time and as it turns out, I was right about that.

Q: You definitely were, you got to avenge your loss and impressed while doing it. You unfortunately weren't able to finish Yuya but that wasn't for lack of trying. After avenging one loss, do you think you might try to avenge another one your losses or are you ready for a new challenge?

Kira: Funny you should say that, I have indeed faced my next opponent before and unfortunately came up short last time. I'm set to face Karate Kid in a rematch that should prove to be very interesting for the rankings in the featherweight division.

Q: Miyata-san arigatou (thank you) for this interview and I wish you the best of luck in your next fight.

Kira: Dou itashi mashite. (you're welcome)
