ISLAND FC, Fight Organization, New York
Company profile by Alexander Melchiott

 Island FC Preview

Event: ISLAND FC 14 - 12/3/2016 @ Hayashi's Lounge - The Island

Island FC will be revisiting Hayashi's Lounge to tear the roof off of the building!  Tencompetitive fights are lined up for you fans, with the Batamweight Championship being defended in the Main Event!

#1 (135 lbs) - James (288717) (0-1-0) vs. Twinkletoe (286174) (0-3-0) Both of these men are still searching for their first win in this sport.  We have two fighters here, so don't expect there to be much rolling in this one.  Both men like to stand and trade, so this one should be exciting!

These men have the talent to compete on the ground, but with stand-up this good, they'd be foolish to try and take it to the mat.  Twinkletoe will have a slight height and weight advantage for this fight.

Prediction: James by decision.  Despite the weight disadvantage, James seems to have the better chin and better accuracy.  Twinkletoe has lost all three of his fights and that has to have rattled his confidence.

#2 (155 lbs) - Climaxia (289110) (0-0-0) vs. Jackson (286029) (0-2-0) In the second bout of the evening, we have two more fighters looking to get their first win in the cage.  Jackson will be searching for the clinch, but Climaxia will present a formidable challenge there.  If Jackson looks to stand and trade, he's going to be at a disadvantage due to Climaxia's boxing and muay thai.

Jackson will need to take Climaxia to the ground if he wants to win this one, but due to his past few fights ending in submission losses, Jackson may be hesitant to revisit the mat.

Prediction: Climaxia by decision.  Jackson's morale after two defeats isn't going to do him any favors here.  Jackson has a good chin, so I don't see this ending in a KO.  Climaxia should be able to control the pace and land more strikes than Jackson in this one.

#3 (265 lbs) - Sin (288048) (0-0-0) vs. Explosion (286394) (0-1-0) This next fight, at first glance, looks one-sided.  Explosion has a height and substantial weight advantage for this bout.  Unfortunately, Explosion is a striker and clincher who got outfought in both areas in his debut fight.

Sin look to be a clincher, but he is able to put the fight to the ground as well.  Explosion has no submission skills, so Sin will have the additional option of pursuing a submission victory.

Prediction: Sin by 1st round submission.  Expect this to be contested in the clinch before Sin pulls guard and gets the tap out.  If Explosion wants to win this, he'll have to stay standing and keep his strikes accurate.

#4 (170 lbs) - Khan (286532) (0-1-0) vs. Wiggum (286556) (1-0-0) We've got a rematch here!  Khan and Wiggum have already met once before, resulting in a 2nd round KO win for Wiggum.  Both men like to clinch, but Wiggum's big right hand should prove the difference here.

Prediction: Wiggum by 2nd round (T)KO.  I think Wiggum will repeat his performance and outwork Khan in the clinch, securing his victory.

#5 (145 lbs) - Krupok (286790) (1-1-0) vs. Solonik (289053) (0-0-0) Krupok should look to stand and trade here, as Solonik is capable of fighting in the clinch or taking Krupok down and working him over on the ground.  Krupok has shown some poor decision making in his first fight, but he came back with a 5 second KO in his second bout.  Solonik will have to watch the hand, but if Krupok hasn't improved his gameplan, he's going to lose.

Prediction: Solonik by decision.  It's tough to determine how Solonik will win, but I really don't think Krupok is going to be able to pull this one out.

#6 (135 lbs) - Disgracie (289028) (1-0-0) vs. Tran (289016) (0-1-0) Another rematch!  Disgracie has previously bested Tran by decision, but can he do it again?  Disgracie likes the clinch but can also take this one to the ground, while Tran is going to have to remain on the outside and keep Disgracie at range.

Prediction: Disgracie by decision.  The second verse should be the same as the first.  On the ground or in the clinch, Disgracie has the advantage.  Tran will be hard-pressed to avoid the repeat.

#7 (205 lbs) - Doggy (286112) (0-0-0) vs. Potter (288190) (0-0-0) Two untested fighters will be making their debut here tonight.  From what the managers have told us, Doggy is a brawler and will look to utalize his striking game -- both in the clinch and out -- to get the win.

Potter is a Muay Thai specialist with good wrestling skills.  Potter should be able to contend with Doggy in the clinch, but his best bet would be to pull Doggy to the ground and go to work there.  Potter will h

ave a slightly easier weight cut going into this.   Prediction: Potter by decision.  The clinch is 50-50 for both men. Potter will lose a straight-up fight, but if these two clinch, Potter should be able to force Doggy to the ground.

Potter doesn't seem to have particularly strong hands, so he'll have to control his opponent if this goes to the ground.

  #8 (265 lbs) - Balls (286247) (2-0-0) vs. Nakanishi (287123) (1-0-0)

Two well-rounded fighters will be going at it in our main card! Both men have won their first fights in dominating fashion, so this should be good.   With both fighters being very well-versed, this one is going to be tough to call.  These two men are about even in every field, so this should be an entertaining battle.

It would appear that Balls has a bit of an advantage in the clinch, but Nakanishi has the advantage on the ground.  If I had to guess, Nakanishi will look to either pull guard or get the takedown.

Prediction: Nakanishi by 2nd round submission.  Balls will need to remain standing to win this one, but Nakanishi's iron chin is going to make getting that early KO quite the challenge.

In the clinch, Nakanishi should be able to pull guard, and once on the ground, manage a submission.

    CO-MAIN EVENT (155 lbs) - Kontio (286424) (3-0-0) vs. Timur (286967) (1-2-0)

This one, on paper, looks like it will be disappointing.  Timur has shown a tendancy to go for far, far too many takedowns.  Being so one-dimensional, you'd expect Kontio to easily counter with the sprawl and take ground control.

With his skills, Kontio should be able to control Timur on the ground, peppering him strikes before locking in a submission.

Luckily, I have been told by Timur's manager that Timur has worked on his strategy.  Timur will be looking to force Kontio to remain standing and will search for the knockout.

Prediction: Kontio by 1st round submission.  Even if Timur adjusts his strategy, Kontio should still be able to pull guard and get the submission.

However, if Timur can work Kontio over in the clinch and manage to remain in control on the ground, he'll have more than a fighting chance.

  MAIN EVENT (135 lbs) - Tate (288240) *Champion* (4-0-0) vs. Roscoe (286858) (4-1-0)

And now for our Main Event of the evening!

The Champion comes into this one with an undefeated record, while Roscoe is on a one-fight win streak after suffering his first loss in his debut for Island FC.

Roscoe's last fight in Island FC was won via split decision while Tate has won every bout via submission by Kimura.

Roscoe is going to look to keep the fight standing, (whether it be in the clinch or outside of it), and seek the KO.

Tate will be looking to get Roscoe on the ground and force the submission.  Tate has some great groundwork, but has shown himself to be rather one-dimensional.

Tate goes after takedown after takedown before focusing on the submission once the fight is on the mat.  Tate has virtually no stand-up whatsoever, so the Champ will stand no chance of winning if the fight remains standing.

The challenger, on the other hand, is a little bit more versatile. Roscoe has shown the ability to both stand and trade as well as work over opponents in the clinch.  Roscoe's clinch has previouly lead to being pulled to the ground and submitted, so it'll be interesting to see if the challenger has addressed that flaw.

Prediction: Tate by 2nd round submission.

Roscoe can win this fight so long as it remains standing, but if he makes the mistake of going into the clinch, he'll likely find himself tapping out.  Unfortunately, the clinch is a huge part of Roscoe's game, so expect him to put himself in danger.

Tate is tenacious enough that I believe it will only be a matter of time before Roscoe is taken down and the submission is earned.
