Senko Earns Another Championship Belt on the Eve of His 36th

Fighter profile of Aigars Senko by Abe Eaton

Aigars Senko Earns Another Championship Belt on the Eve of His 36th Birthday Las Vegas -- April 25th, 2016 by Abe Eaton Aigars Senko (26-16, Ranked 15 in Weight Class) captured the AD (Aggressive Damage) 145lb Title Saturday night with a decisive win over Mohsen Mosaddegh after a 5-round scorcher that saw both fighters give their all. Senko, just one victory off of a devastating 135lb Title Loss, went up a weight class to 145 and with a solid decision victory over Ricardo Ramirez he found himself in the position for a title shot at 145.

Senko has been contracted to AD since being signed by Manager Abe Eaton, having a 7-4 overall record with the organization. He has won 6 of his last 7 fights. Asked his secret to success in his most recent endeavor, Senko said, "I'm a good counter fighter. I can anticipate what [my opponent] is going to do, and react to it before they finish their end of the deal. I've been working with two excellent movement coaches and perfecting my striking skills."

Senko is currently mulling his first title defense against perhaps his most challenging opponent yet, but the details are still being worked out behind the scenes at AD. Having taken the 135 belt from the formidable Uebishe Lesnoe by a narrow and controversial split decision, Senko wants to make yet another statement with a quick knockout victory. "I'm also working on my ground game, offensively speaking. Defensively I'm pretty good on the ground, but I can't convert any offense," Senko stated in a recent interview.

Asked who he wants to fight next, Senko stated that if he maintains his belt, he wants to face another champion from the organization, perhaps a catchweight, non-title rematch against Uebishe Lesnoe, the final battle in a trilogy war. While he would prefer a title match and to hold two belts, he is realistic about his expectations.

"Lesnoe is tough, scrappy, and has heavy hands. He can beat you with counterstriking, too." FOr now, Senko is resting up, enjoying his recent 36th Birthday, and shows no signs of slowing down. "Abe [Eaton] really changed my course as a fighter. He's been great in my corner and has been willing to work with me when other managers wrote me off," Senko quipped at a recent media scrum.

For now, Senko is considering bulking up and participating in the next TWGC, despite his grappling needing work. Abe Eaton thinks Senko can easily get a decision win thanks to his tenacity and his history of avoiding trouble on the ground. Senko wants to fight until he is 40, as long as his body cooperates.

For now, he's 4-time champion and first-ballot organization hall of famer if he continues on his current path. He helps sell out gates and PPVs and is ready to dominate.
